" I give this set a 6 its staring to get ridiculous i can barely fit my hand it is very disappointing to see lego sets getting smaller for an massive price because i remember when lego was a fair price. I love lego but this set isn't their best work. I like the look but don't have the story line because the 99% of the buyers are 13+ and they want real build look and get inspiration, not a little kid set with a story line in it that would work for lego city but not lego creator expert. I would suggest the others modular buildings before this one. Hopefully lego gets their fax straight for the next modular building. "

Thank you for the review. I noticed also that the interior was a little tight making some play functions difficult. This will be discussed amongst the designers as many builders do enjoy the play features.

In regards to the storyline of the set I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy it and that it affected your building/play experience. Every set actually has a story behind it but not always is the story shared. The designer enjoyed the set and the story so much that he wanted to share it with all the Creator Expert builders.

" As my son gets older, I've been shopping for more and more Lego products, so it was only a matter of time before I would end up getting a nice large set like this. I've noticed that a lot of people compare this set unfavorably to the others, but I looked at all the sets, and this was the coolest looking to me. I like that it looks like a city block with a combination of businesses and rooms that could serve as small apartments. It is a little hard to play in the rooms, but I much prefer the realism of the enclosed rooms than having an open back like in the normal City sets. In the end, I really just like the idea of there being an actual Lego city to go along with the myriad of police and fire sets that my son is sure to get as gifts. To that end, I'd rather get more basic city buildings first. The Pet Shop will be my next expert modular for that reason. My suggestion on the feedback survery was for there to be a mansion or apartment building. Make no mistake, though, this set really does look extremely nice, and is the best looking set I ever owned. If the others look better I'll be pretty happy. "

" This set was fa-nominal, I fell in love with it as soon as i saw it on the back of the Lego magazine. The set had bright colors, use of fairly new bricks in new colors, and excellent building ideas that will be used to help with custom MOCs. The set was good for the prohibition era it was designed for. The detectives office and billiard room was a great representation of the time period and the barbershop seemed as though it was pulled right out of small town America. The story line for the modular excellent, It wasn't necessary but defiantly helped with the play-ability standpoint of the model.
the pros of the model are the excellent and bright color scheme, the printed elements on the windows, the era appropriate minfigure prints, the story, the pool sign, and the mirror.
The cons are that the mysterious woman in red doesn't have a separate dress piece, the barber shop was a little bigger so that it was easy to move the barrel full of sweets from one place to another.
all in all this set is defiantly one of the greatest arguably the best next to the Persian restaurant in design. But i will have to give it to the detectives office because it is more roomy and has a lot more going on in the set that meets the eye.
this set is a must have to put next to your other Lego modulars or if your just starting to get in to the modular buildings this set is great from new building tricks to fun new pieces i would recommend this set highly to any fan of Lego. "

" I now have a range of these sets and only got into them late on.
This was a must have set for me because of how it looked,
The outside has very nice details from the Barber shop sign to the bench, the nicest feature is the highlander pool room. Lots of play can happen inside even a dart board on the wall.
We go up stairs to Ace Brickmans office, everything you would find in an office with a hidden extra.
Over to the Barber side now and one person can get a new style of hair cut while chatting to the Barber Al, with mirror and more secret features it brings an extra story to this set of smuggling lots of treats and a who done it case for Ace.
The down side is my hands are to big to fit into the buildings to play, but for kids they love it, making the figures walk along the front and into the rooms, and on the roof.
I wished the Barber shop side was the same size width wise as Ace brickmans office.
My next set is going to be the brick bank... "
