" The amazing thing about Lego is that it can be adapted to your taste. You don't like something, you can simply change it. This is my 8th modular and (with the exception of adding an interior to Cafe Corner) all are in displayed as per the instructions. It's silly, but I'd feel like I'd be compromising the artists vision by altering their work. They're like little pieces of Lego art : ) And yet I look at Detective's Office and all I see is the flaws. It begs to be modified.
The two building are too small. The interiors too cramped to access - rendering the play features redundant. I'm guessing the (ugly) gaps between the ceiling and the roof on the ground floor are there to alleviate this; but it's a tacit admission of a design that's fundamentally flawed. The colours are poor. The Masonry blocks are a particularly unattractive shade, clashing badly with the garish barber shop. It feels value-engineered to me, compromised by budget.
There are positives. The toilet is brilliantly executed as are many of the small details.
Would I recommend this set to a friend? Absolutely... but only after they've bought every other Modular.
BTW. I gave this set three stars, which is not a true reflection of its quality. 3.5 stars is a more accurate score I feel. "
I would recommend this to a friend!
