" I ordered this set (along with the Detective's Office) from lego.com and when they arrived (actually the postwoman brought the big carton to my front door) I just spent an hour looking at the boxes in awe. I had to assemble the flower cart that came along with these two buildings almost immediately after I'd finished with my making "awwwww" sounds.
The Parisian Restaurant is so beautiful to look at that it makes my eyes go moist. I didn't know you could build something so beautiful out of mere plastic bricks. The backyard is the prettiest one in the series so far, I especially love the plants that are growing up the back wall.
There are three separate play areas in this set. Firstly, there is the ground floor restaurant with so much detail that it makes your head spin. Secondly, there's the apartment on top of the restaurant that has an abundance of awesome pieces of furniture and thirdly, there's the top floor artist's studio with a roof so cool that I had to take it to the sauna to heat it up a bit. I believe I still have a touch of frostbite on my fingertips...
I have only two things that I find not-so-pleasing with this set.
1) The fridge door is a bit tricky to open with my clumsy fingers. I'm still waiting for Lego to send me a pair of proper hands. Or just fingers, if hands are too difficult to manufacture...
2) Since the second tier of the building comes off in two parts, it is rather impossible to take the smaller section (the terrace floor) out if there's a building on the right side of the set. You have to take the house part out first and only then you can take out the terrace section without breaking anything.
I also have one question:
What is the big blue-and-grey boxy thing at the back of the building? Is it a dumpster? I sure hope not, because I stuck all my Lego bananas in it and I sure hope the garbage truck will stay away from it...

" I had to have a train station in my Lego world and since I didn't buy the earlier version (7937) I had to get this one. If you have trains and track, you simply have to have a train station, too.
The build was not difficult, but getting the stickers to line up properly was a bit of a stretch for my fingers and eyes. The station itself is easy on the eye with an almost futuristic look and is packed with great details such as the Lego toy boxes, security cameras and of course the coffee machine. The cross-track roof is a very impressive addition and makes the station look more realistic.
Two things annoyed me.
1) When I first drove one of my trains past the train station there was a great bang and some parts were flying through the air. The pantographs that are on top of the train would not fit under the station roof if they were extended. I had to flatten them out in order to avoid similar problems. Then I got annoyed with the fact that the trains looked somewhat watered down without the pantographs extended and added a row of 2x2 grey bricks under the sloped bricks on the station roof and a 1x2 grey brick on the top of the structure that holds up the other end of the cross-track roof. Problem solved.
2) I know this is most likely exclusive to the particular set that I bought, but when I opened the packaging I noticed that the page with all the stickers for the set was folded in half. I tried my best to smoothen the stickers out but to this day the sticker on the side of the yellow taxi is peeling off. "

" The Pet Shop is my second modular building and I learned from the first one that I had to pace myself a little just so that I wouldn't build it all at once.
If the Lego set Pet Shop is built following the official instructions, the first house to be completed is the apartment building next door to the pet shop. There's a low basement, in which I wouldn't want to lose my minifigures! The first floor is packed with detail such as the couch and the toilet. Second and third floors are mainly empty but the spiral staircases are beautiful as are the french doors and the balcony with the vegetable garden. It appears that the family is either renovating or just moving into the apartment.
The pet shop side of the build is the next step. The first floor is occupied by a shop that sells animals and accessories for pets. The second and third floors make up a fully furnished apartment and are accessed through a fine looking stairway at the side of the building.
The attention to detail is (again) absolutely amazing and the houses look very beautiful even from behind. I love the way the designers have used plants to liven up the building and the windows are fantastic.
However, I do have a few minor complaints (again):
1) The toilet is pretty much inaccessible and one can't even see into the toilet unless you tear down the stairs above it.
2) The door to the second floor of the Pet Shop building doesn't open up completely.
3) The chimneys on the roofs do tend to come off easily, especially the one on the roof of the apartment building.
4) There are no panes for the arched windows (the same problem occurred with Palace Cinema).
5) My hands are too big and clumsy to play with the pet shop properly (I can't get to the pet pens properly). Could Lego please send me a new pair of hands? Please? Pretty please?

" For some obscure reason I decided to buy Palace Cinema this January. It was my first modular building (as the title so elegantly suggests) and I loved it so much that I had to have more of the buildings.
I had some difficulty attaching the doors of the cinema properly and I had to get "expert help" from somebody with keener eyes and more attention to detail. I had built the doorway wrong, so one has to be very careful to follow the instructions to the letter (which obviously is not my strong point). The doors are fantastic when properly built and attached, and they open all the way (unlike in Town Hall).
The building looks fantastic and the sidewalk reminds me of Hollywood Walk of Fame. The attention to detail is truly amazing.
However, I do have some very minor complaints:
1) Seen from behind, the tower on the roof does look somewhat unfinished.
2) The sign column (which is otherwise fantastic-looking and was fun to build) that hangs over the door tends to droop ever so slightly and the doors chafe on it. But this is easily remedied by pushing the sign up a little.
3) The roof is attached to the lower floor from all corners with two studs. For some reason in my Palace Cinema the furthermost corner studs started to rip apart the roof structure when I took the roof off, so I had to replace the 1x2 plate with a 1x1 plate and a 1x1 flat tile (which I believe were spare ones from the Palace Cinema set, so no harm, no foul).
I have no problem with the car that came with the set. I actually crammed all the minifigures in the car (the photograper is standing at the back taking photos) and now they speed around wreaking havoc in the city block I've built. "
