Awesome, but so disappointing...
Where to start my review.. first of all, I am a huge Lego fan and also a Batman fan so I just had to add the iconic Batwing to my collection.
But I have very mixed feelings about this set. I hope I can explain this properly. I am usually very positive about Lego sets but this one just felt off. This is probably the first set I would not recommend. If you are a Batman fan then yes, buy it, but as a Lego fan, no. ( you see the duality?) The Batwing looks really cool on the stand and even better on the wall. The shape is absolutely perfect, but this is also why I think it has it’s flaws.
The build started of positive. I was amazed by the size of the Batwing. It is huge! But.. it took me only 5 hours to build. Now I know some may think: “yeah right, I bet it was double”. But no, only five hours for a set that costs 200 euros. I have to admit that I am a fast builder but the main problem with this set is that left and right are exactly the same. There are no small differences like with the star destroyer or the millennium Falcon. So once you build one part you can blindly build the other or just build the other side at the same time. Twice I saw a piece that I did not expect. Which was fun. I won’t spoil anything so I am not going to tell you which pieces. But you will know what I mean when you build it
I really loved the batmobile because it had a lot of detail and moving parts. This set has none. Maybe the designers couldn’t find the room for it, but It feels like they focused way to much on just the shape and the fact that it can be wall mounted. Because the underside of the batwing has no detail at all apart from two small batwings. Even the cockpit just feels unfinished. Then there is the sticker with the bat-engine. Underneath it are two red crowbars you use to wall mount it. It’s a cool feature, but there is absolutely no engine. Not even a small hint of one. I hope Lego can tell me more about the choices they made in the design proces. Because this set just doesn’t feel finished.

So I guess for me the building experience is just as important as the set itself (the Ecto 1 for instance has both so definitely buy that one if you don’t know what to do with your freshly earned 200 euro’s) and the build of the batwing disappointed me to such a degree that the whole thing just feels no more than: ok.

Geweldige set!
Wat heb ik veel plezier gehad bij bouwen van deze set! Ik heb al veel grotere sets mogen bouwen (bijna alle Star Wars sets, 1989 batmobile, batwing, Bugatti, Land Rover) maar deze komt toch wel met stip op 1!
Het is met deze bouw duidelijk dat de Ecto 1 zelf een hoofdrolspeler is in de franchise. Er is veel aandacht besteed aan de details die Ecto 1 een ghostbusters auto maakt, maar even zo goed is er veel aandacht besteed aan het feit dat dit ook nog gewoon een auto is.
Normaal stoor ik mij erg aan de stickers die gebruikt worden bij de duurdere sets. Eigenlijk zou dit voor deze bedragen niet mogen. Bij deze set vind ik het echter voor het eerst een meerwaarde hebben. De stickers zijn transparant waardoor ze al minder opvallen. De roest plekken zijn een mooie toevoeging en door stickers te gebruiken heb je ook nog de keuze om ze achterwege te laten en de Ecto 1 dus helemaal op te knappen. Bovendien zitten er in deze set ook nog genoeg geprinte steentjes, deze zijn wel basic, maar ze passen allemaal perfect in de set. Mocht je nog twijfelen over deze set: “niet doen”. De Ecto 1 is in het “echt” erg gaaf om te zien, met veel leuke trucjes en van een mooi groot formaat.
