A hefty little eye candy
" This is my third Architecture set. I own the Farnsworth House and the Trevi Fountain, of which the first one is still intact - I just love the sleek beauty of it. The Guggenheim has the same esthetic appeal: clean lines, a trillion 1x1 tiles, and beautiful colors.
Yes, colors. I love the dark green plates with white tiles and sand details in the Farnsworth House, and I also love the two different greens of the Guggenheim combined with the teeny tiny splashes of yellow. It looks complete, balanced, satisfying.
It also has a nice weight to it. And even though one will not see the insides of the model once it is ready, the inside design makes sense when you are building the model. You can see the love for the original architecture manifesting in the LEGO model and even its details that don't meet the eye. Also, the back wall, although it seems pretty uniform a structure, is in fact a really complex and intriguing construction.
The overall built of the model is quite challenging, especially the back wall, to get all the tiles spot-on straight. But that's good, right? Not everything has to be easy, not in life nor in LEGO. And that's why I really like both the Architecture and the Creator series. :)
Happy building! "

I just thought I remembered the colors wrong
" Ha, now, reading these reviews, I realize I had not gone completely senile when I thought the color was off.
I found LEGOs again recently, and have bought some sets. When I got this one, I just thought I remembered the LEGO baseplate green color wrong... But apparently they have changed it.
So no, it is not a flattering color. It is bright, plasticky (in a non LEGO way), and does not represent any kind of natural grass green. "

Glow of the water
" I got the Trevi Fountain as a birthday present from my friends, who embrace my newly found LEGO enthusiasm. Such a cool present, such super cool friends!
I love the model, it's my first from the Architecture series. It was fun to build - intricate details combined with some lovely technics and in the end a wonderful interpretation of the actual fountain. The instruction book has a grown-up wibe with the sleek black pages, info of the building, and the words from the LEGO designer.
The toughest part to build might be the water. One has to be careful, and I would imagine that if you are a more short-tempered LEGO builder, the brick separator included will come in handy. A nice touch is that the instruction book has red markings to make the building of the water easier.
The finished building is very very beautiful. I personally don't mind the clear blue bricks of the wall element being behind the transparent ones at all, because I really like how the fountain looks so different in different lights - just like the actual Trevi Fountain. But I can imagine some people might find this troubling.
I always imagine what it would be like as a child to receive the LEGO models I build. The thing is, this model has 12+ age recommendation, but if I would have gotten this when I was 9 or older, I would have been so excited! So if you have a child who loves to build things, enjoys beautiful sceneries, and loves to draw houses and design apartment lay-outs, and is good with puzzles, this is a perfect present for them. And same goes with grown-ups! :D "

Splitting hairs
" I bought this set together with the LEGO Friends Juice Bar. My agenda in both of these buys was to collect some of the bricks and pieces found in the sets for my own projects. I was especially interested in the curved large windows and curved bricks.
I built both sets to get more LEGO building ideas and perhaps to feel like a little girl for a while. The Juice Bar attracted me with its bright colors and all around happy appearence, but the Hair Salon raised more mixed emotions. Its colors reminded me of my 80's childhood and my stepdad's mom's drugstore that had this 'time standing still' feeling and a heavy scent of roses and fleur-de-lis. Also the interior is a quite scattered and it feels somehow incomplete.
But there is a lot of good, too. I love the symmetry of the fasade, the salon chairs (so simple, yet effective), the "traditional" LEGO flowers which I think look more gentle than the newer ones, the silver coin, the water in the basin, the coffee machine / magazine rack, and despite the presence of stickers the magazines themselves are delightful!
The crown of the fasade is refreshing to build for a Friends set because it does not take shortcuts with readymade "easier" bricks. It has all the traditional pieces and a real feel of LEGO.
If I was a kid, I'd actually probably really love this set. In the end it is a versatile scene with nice pieces to produce a good LEGO building experience. It also has a lot of playability because of all the Hair Salon products, wigs, hair jewelry, magazines, the trolley etc..
Oh, and the scissor handles can be reused to make a toilet seat. :) "

Sweet sweet colors, and a buncha neat blenders
" I bought this lovely set together with the LEGO Friends Hair Salon. My agenda in both of these buys was to collect some of the bricks and pieces found in the sets for my own projects. I was especially interested in the curved large windows and curved bricks.
I am generally a bit annoyed about creating a gender specific LEGO set (LEGO Friends being promoted as a girls' series), since the stereotypical color choices, the miniskirted "I can't move my legs" figures, and the easier brick/wall elements, and the mostly upper class suburbs oriented themes represent really kinda 50's attitude. And LEGO being a Scandinavian toy, one would expect a more modern thinking. But having said that, if I had had this Juice Bar as a gift when I was a kid, I would have loved it to bits! :P
In the set the thing most pleasing to my eye is the happy roundness combined with the delicious sunny colors. The large windows add to the airy atmosphere. I love the little stools, and especially love the two blenders and the juice squeezer - what a wonderful add to any LEGO kitchen!
By the way, I also almost made the same construction mistake as "Asfriedhr" in the reviews made: For some reason my eyes also decieved me when putting the first flat pink pieces of the roof area in place. But as soon as I realized there was something odd going on, I remembered reading Asfriedhr's review and knew what I had done wrong. So these reviews are truly helpful! :) "

Such a delight to build
" Hi guys,
This is the first big LEGO Creator building I've bought (I have The Simpsons' house, Benny's Spaceship, Spaceship, SPACESHIP!, and the tiny toy store), and I love it! I've attached some photos. They have been processed with Photoshop so they are a bit more lively light-wise than the actual building.
I've had an almost 30 year gap in my LEGO life, so it is so much fun to have these little "Oh, I remember this construction trick" moments as well as the "Wow, they have these sorts of bricks today!" realisitions.
It took me three nights to build the Parisian Restaurant, and all went smoothly. The only part where I had difficulties was the top floor and its gable which I knocked over two times mainly because it got secured to the other walls so late. Also, I have chubby fingers... :D
The things I love about this set: The fasade details - a joy to build, and fascinating to look at; the restaurant curtains - the bricks actually, in my eyes at least, mimic the draping of the cloth (not so that it is visible but the way the bricks are layered); the olive colored bricks - what a refined tone; the rat - because I love smart rodents; the opening roof of the atelier; the fact that the minifigures have the basic LEGO face. I also love the color of the "logs" in the fireplaces. The dark chocolaty tone is so beautiful I wish I could find some other set with more of bricks with that color.
Last but not least I really appreciate all the ideas and solutions this set gives to my own LEGO buildings - the bed that rises to the wall, the rotating armchair, the decorations inside and out, and one more time: the fireplaces.
I think I will not take this building apart but rather modify it to fit the needs of my LEGO heroine and her neighbourhood. Maybe change some of the interior colors etc. The middle floor is perhaps a bit too manly for my heroine's taste...
I can wholeheartedly recommend this building to any LEGO and architecture/interior design fan.
Thanks for the experience, LEGO folks! "
