Complete!
" So I now have every LOTR and Hobbit set, and this is without a doubt my Crown Jewel! This set is Huge, and is done the way Lego should do these Middle earth sets. The only two others done right are the Battle of Helms Deep and An Unexpected Gathering(the rest are more like backdrops for the minifigs, which are awesome). On to the review.
Minifigs:
There is only one exclusive here, and that is Grima Wormtongue. He is amazing, with great printing, and a greenish face. Gandalf, The Orc, The Uruk-Hai are all the same, and can be gotten in cheaper sets. Saruman comes with a dress piece that is really nice, but other than that he is the same. The Eagle is a nice touch, but is the same as the black gate one.
Ent:
The Ent looks wonderful. Don't think it's Tree Beard, but is still nice. They have a lot of detail, and also included some mushrooms growing out of him, which I always like. Moveable hands and legs, but I think the arm with the lever could have been done better. Almost no movement there.
The Tower:
The tower is huge, with lots of goodies. Not much repetition in the build (which is surprising when you look at it), but there are stickers (which I hate because I can never put them on right). There are some cool details, like picture of all five (Yes there are five) wizards, and a small space for wargs. I don't like how you cannot fit the wizard battle set in this one. Kinda made me feel like getting it was pointless, but I do prefer the eye of Sauron Palantir, to the one that comes in this set.
Overall:
I give this set a 10 out of 10. The price per piece ratio os great, the build is fun (the biggest set I've ever had, finally beat out my Imperial Flagship.), and the playability is nonstop. A must buy for LOTR fans and everyone else!

Done!
" I now have all of the LOTR sets. Yes that includes polybags and promotionals. First time I've ever done that. I love this line!
The Fortress:
Helm's Deep is amazing. The fortress is huge and there are so many cool elements that it would take way too long to explain them here, but I will talk about a few. The main gate is connected to the tower and a section of the wall with the drain. Behind it is another section that is not connected, but includes a sort of armory with a dining area, and lots of extra weapons. There is a throne there that is built in a way that I while I was building it, I had no Idea what I was doing until I was almost done. The causeway is designed in a way that allows it curve, much like it does in the movie. And around the corner from the main gate is a side door that allows access to a catapult that can launch Gimli and Aragon onto the causeway(which actually works very well). The drain section has a function that causes it to explode, this does not work very well, but with a little bit of modification, you can make it work just fine. To make Helms deep look really good, buy the Uruk-hai army add on. I bought two and put the drain in between them, and now it looks just like the Deeping Wall. The tower has Helm Hammerhand's horn, and a box for Gimli to climb up on, plus it connects the Deeping wall to the rest of Helm's Deep via a door. I'll stop here, because I could go on forever, but yes the set is awesome.
Minifigs:
You get Aragon, Gimili and three Uruk-hai that are not exclusive to this set. All have back, and leg printing with dual sided heads.
King Theoden, Haldir, and the Uruk-hai Berserker are exclusive to this set. King Theoden and Haldir have front, back and leg printing, as well as dual sided heads. The Berserker has front and back printing, but no leg printing. The back part of his head is the printed with the design of his small helmet. Too bad he doesn't come with one of those giant berserker Uruk-hai swords with the dual spikes.
All the printing on all of King Theoden's parts (except his sword) are exclusive to this set.
Haldir is my favorite elf mini-figure so far. His armor printing is by far the best (Yes it even beats out the Elrond promo fig), and he comes with an awesome cape(two actually). Just wish he had an elven Longsword. So far they just have those elven Naginata type weapons.
Price: The price is actually really good, at less then 10 cents per piece.
Wishes: Although there is not much more they could have done with this set, I really do hope they start releasing Star Wars type battle packs for the Lord of the rings line. It wold be amazing to have Lorien elves (All we get is Haldir) standing on the walls next to more Rohan soldiers (there is only one in the entire line that isn't a main character). Maybe if we keep bugging TLG for them they'll eventually give in.
Final Thought: It doesn't matter who you are or what kind of Lego sets you like, BUY THIS SET!

The Elves have a home!
" So I bought this set along with the Escape from the Mirkwood Spiders set, and a whole bunch of Mirkwood Ranger Polybags. This is my second Hobbit review.
Price:
The price per piece is not that good. This set has 30 more pieces than the Mirkwood Spiders set, and yet it cost a whole $10 more. Not cool. Even so, most of the pieces are awesome, so that makes up for it somewhat. This set should be around $35.
The Cellar/Prison:
For readers of the book, this is a very memorable scene, and this set does it justice. The look and feel of the set is very elvish, with a lot of cool little uses for the bricks (like using flat plates sideways to give the archways a tile like feel). The barrel rolling, and cell door escape levers work well, the cell is actually pretty large, and the look and feel of the set make it seem larger then it is. Plus the addition of the spiral staircase adds a lot of flair.
The Minifigs:
This set comes with two Mirkwood elves ( a guard and a chief). They have the normal elf hairpieces (that can't fit a quiver in the back), one in red and one in brown. All of the minifigures have back printing and double sided heads (one of the chief's heads is inebriated!). Only the chief has leg printing. Oin comes with a small cape, and Bilbo looks awesome, plus Gloin is there, he's my favorite dwarf, after his son. The set comes with three rings and most importantly THREE ELVISH SPEARS! It's like a little armory!
Summary:
The set is great and has many great features, but it is, without a doubt, overpriced by 5 to 10 dollars. Still, this is a must for any Hobbit/LOTR fan!

Mirkwood Army
" I have almost all of the LOTR sets so this is a no brainer. I picked this set up at a store that I can't name due to gudelines along with the Barrel Escape and a bunch of the Gandalf and Mirkwood Ranger polybags. I now have a little Mirkwood army! Now on to the set.
Price:
The price is pretty good, about 10 cents a piece, which is a really good price per piece count. Most of the pieces are for detail, but this is a very detailed set and it looks great.
Spiders:
The two big spiders are nowhere near as cool as Shelob, but they did a good job due to the fact that the spiders are much smaller. There is very little articulation in the legs. The front and back four legs move up and down, as well as backward and forward, while the middle four only move up and down. The glow in the dark eyes are a nice touch and one of the little spiders glows in the dark.
Trees:
The trees are awesome, I just wish there was more of them (buy the Mirkwood Ranger polybags to solve this problem). There are a lot of cool little building techniques used during the build. The bags (web cocoons) feel more like fabric then the usual paper-like feel of the capes. There is a little missile launcher element that, instead of shooting a missile, (which would make no sense for this theme) shoots out a spider (which makes complete sense)! One of the trees can fall over, but the trick only works once it's loose, otherwise it gets stuck and you have to wiggle it a little. The mushrooms are cool, and there is a glow in the dark brick you put beneath them which looks nice, plus you get an extra mushroom top (the mushrooms in the Mirkwood Ranger Polybag look cooler). Lastly there are lots of cool bones to scatter around the bottom of the tree (3 skulls!).
Minifigs:
This set comes with Tauriel, Legolas, Fili, and Kili. Tauriel and Legolas both have printing on their legs, while all of the minifigures have front and back printing on their torsos, and dual sided heads. Legolas has some really cool golden sleeves as well. Legolas comes with a bow and Tauriel comes with three Prince of Persia Daggers (kinda wish they had some of those awesome elvish spears though) and they both have the standard elf headpiece, one blond and the other redhead. Fili comes with two short swords, and Kili comes with a bow. They both have the same head piece just different colors. Their hair also allows them to place an arrow quiver on their backs which is really cool (should've thought about that with the elves since most of them carry bows).
Overall:
This is a good set, and I highly recommend it. Just wish they had more trees and elvish weapons!

I now have the entire Fellowship!
" This is the 6th set I received in this theme. As a LOTR fan it is a must! I now have the entire Fellowship of the ring, and only need the Helms Deep set to complete the collection. Here we go...
Pros:
The set has 6 exclusive figures: Legolas, Boromir, Pippen, two Moria orcs (aka goblins), and one cave troll. The details on the set are great and the details on the figures are great. The pieces all fit with the scene, (except the whole treasure box thing). and most of the scene is movie accurate. The price per piece count is pretty good.
Cons: Stickers! I think this is the first set in this series that I have that has them. Although the are good stickers, they are still stickers, just print the patterns on the bricks. Hopefully these sets are to test the market, because if they continue this line they are going to need a lot more bricks with Dwarven runes printed on them. Next, the set does not connect, it is just literally pieces of a set and not a whole set. They should have found a way to connect the set pieces together. I'm hoping that they will add to this set further down the line with other sets.
If you're a LOTR fan this set is for you, if not, then it's only good for parts. "

More like part of a set.
" This is the 5th LOTR set I have received, and it is awesome despite my many gripes. This set is for LOTR fans only, if you're not a fan, then it is just an OK set.
Pros:
RINGWRAITHS!!!!!!!! And you get two of them exclusively in this set! The detailing on the horses is great, plus they have red eyes. You also get an Exclusive Merry figure. The detailing on the set and on the inside of the set is great, especially because the inside is all made up. The trap door mechanism (though not in the movie or books) is also great because you don't have to put it back in place by hand. No Stickers!
Cons:
The price per piece is way off, this set should be $15 to $20 less based on the piece count. The playability is a little thrown off by the size and a lot of the pieces are details and don't add too much to the set. it's also less of a set, and more like a part of a larger set. I hope they make a bottom portion to this set that can connect to this one and make it look more complete, otherwise it's just the top of Weathertop.
If you're a fan of LOTR this set will make you happy, if not you're gonna be disappointed. "

More then for a fan
" This is a great set, and the 4th set I've gotten in this theme.
Pros:
There are 2 (three if you include the spider) exclusive figures in this set, which are Sam and Gollum. This set comes with the one ring, and two Sting swords. The price per piece count is very good (although as usual, most of the pieces are details pieces). There are no stickers which is a huge plus, the spiders eyes are actually part of the piece. Believe it or not, the best part of this set is Shelob. She is so realistically built that I have managed to scare other people as well as myself with her by mistake.
Cons:
Usually I would say the price here, but this time the price is good. The only real negative is that this really isn't a set, it's set pieces. This set looks like parts that should belong to a larger set, a set I hope they make soon.

Come on, It's LOTR
" This was the third LOTR set I purchased, and like I have said before, I'll buy them all no matter what they cost.
Pros:
Just about everything in this set is awesome. It has both characters from this scene, and both are exclusive (this is the only set with Gandalf and he has a new beard mould, and the only set with Frodo dressed like this.) The cart is very detailed and fits well with the new horse figure. There is even a book for Frodo like in the first scene of the movie.
Cons:
The price. I know the price per piece isn't too bad, but a lot of the pieces are just details, and the set should have cost between $8 and $9 instead of $13. Not much more to say. If you're a fan, buy it, but if you're not a fan of LOTR, then it's just a cool but overpriced set.

Nice!
" This is the second set I bought for this line and I really like it.
1. Negatives: Is it over priced, just a little. Should have one more Rohan soldier.
2. Positives: The Uruk grapple Ballista is very well thought out. I like the new "brick" bricks and The use of color is well planned. Plus printed bricks and no stickers! Eomer is very detailed on his helmet and shield and has a great cape. This is a good army builder and an awesome extension to the helms deep set, and you will most likely buy multiples if you don't mind having multiple Eomers running around (I know I will). Lastly the new horse moulds are very nice even if you don't use the rearing action, they are still very detailed.
Over all this set is a good buy and I will be picking up another very soon. "

LOTR Oh Yeah!!!!
" This is one of the first two sets I bought for this theme and I have to say it is amazing.
1. I'll start with the negatives: The price is horrendous. That being said I bought it anyway, because it's LOTR. (I would have bought three if the set had a reasonable price tag)
2. Positive: This set has Lurtz, and although he's naked he's still awesome. Between the metal smithing and the mining the playability for this set is high. Heck, you can even give birth to Lurtz under the mine. The light up brick is an excellent touch, there are no stickers and actually PRINTED BRICKS! There are some pretty cool brick colors on the smaller pieces. Another plus is that the white hand of Saruman is printed on their shields and helmets which is a really cool touch! And ORCS!
Overall: The set is way overpriced, but if you've got loads of cash just sitting around this set is an awesome base for the enemies of the free peoples of Middle Earth! "
