Excellent set!
" I have six LotR and The Hobbit sets so far, and this set is by far my favorite! although it does not have very much playability by itself, it is an important location in middle-earth and I really enjoy having it. The srchetecture of Rivendell looks great. There are nice arches and trees. I don't really care about exclusive peices, but if you collect them, this set has new orange leaf peices. The chairs are nice too, there are stickers for the designs on them though. It is also somewhat hard to keep a minifigure in one too, as the chairs only have studs to hold them in the back, not the front. The table looks nice too. The building and the open area for the chairs are detachable. The Gimli-throwing function doesn't work very well, Gimli doesn't go very far. The eye under the function peice looks nice, but you can kind of see the red when the Gimli-thrower is closed. Gimli nd Frodo are the same in every other set they are in (except for gandalf arrives), except Frodo doesn't have a cape. Elrond is awesome! he is my favorite minifigure so far, and by alot. He has awesome hair (which is rubber), he has an awesome upper body peice showing a red and gold jacket, he has an awesome lower body peice with nice printing of a continuation of his jacket, he has an awesome two sided face, one nutral and one slightly angry, and he has an awesome two-sisded cape. If figures like him came in every LotR set, I would buy them all (not really, I don't have that much money). I love this set and definitely think it is a must-have! "

Nice Set
" I like this set despite its size. Yes, it is smaller than you would hope for, but it isn't tiny. I like this set for a number of reasons, and I don't like it for a number of reasons.
First, the good things. As always with LotR, the minifigures are great. Aragorn looks amazing in his blue Gondor upper-body peice. He has a double sided cape that looks really cool. The Mouth of Sauron is neat as well. His helmet has three spikees and covers his eyes. He has a black cape and a black sword. Gandalf the white is a nice addition, but he looks alot like Saruman. He could definitely pass as him. This was a bit disappointing, but I still like the figure alot. The Orcs are just OK. ccIt is nice to have (more) orcs, but the one with the helmet looks a bit akward without any other armor. I also like how the gate comes apart. If you take out the tower and set it all by itself, it looks alot like the tower of Orthnac. When I need an Orthnac, I just take out this tower, which is alot easier than buying a $200 Orthnac set.
The bad things: First of all, there were alot of details in the tower and the gate that could have been taken out. The gate in particular had alot of extra details and it could have been designed in a much less expensive way. The gate is about five studs thick most of the time, which could have easily been changed. The gate is well-structure on the in between the front and the bck layers of bricks, which was entirely unnecessary. I would have settled for a thinner gate with less details in the tower and used the peices saved to build an extra tower. That is a smarter idea I think lego should have used when designing this set. Also, a smaller issue is that the door on the gate doesn't work well, and peices below the door often fly off when I open it.

Good for price
" If you are looking for a Gandalf minifigure or a frodo minifigure, this is a good set to buy. Gamdalf comes in four sets, plus one as Gandalf the white (including the hobbit sets), and Frodo comes in four total sets. Gandalf's sets and mostly $60+, so this is a good buy if you want him. Frodo is in alot of other inexpensive sets that include other key characters. However, if you want other Frodos, or if you want more hobbits, this is a good set to get because this Frodo is exclusive to it (for now). There are many acessories in the cart, like fireworks and a letter. The horse in this set does stand on its hind legs, as do all the other horses in LotR. This is a good buy for ten dollars. "

Average set
" This set is just OK. The minifigures, however, are excellent. Frodo Baggins is the same Frodo you get in three other sets, but he is still pretty cool. Samwize Gamgee is also very cool. He has a tan hirt and a brown belt. Although he is currently exclusive to this set, he will probably be included in the third wave. Both hobbits come with short swords (Sting for Frodo) and capes, though the capes are the same grey color. Gollum has a very neat face. He appears to be yelling something or showing off his yellow teeth. He has blue eyes. He had detatchable hands which can hold the ring as well as his fish. Shelob, on the other hand, is not what you would hope for. The legs and face are good and functional, but her upper body looks akward. There are studs sticking out and there are gaps in her outer layer of bricks, showing off a red inside. The abdomen and stinger are average as well. The abdomen does look nice, but the stinger function isn't well designed. It often gets stuck when you reel it in. Pulling it out works well, but winding it back up doesn't. The cord either gets stuck, or you turn the reel, but nothing happens for a couple spins. All in all, this set needs work. "

Fun set
" This is overall a good set, especially if you value minifigures highly. Most LOTR sets focus on the protagonists, meaning you can quickly accumilate main characters (ex. Gandalf, Frodo, Legolas) and not have enough villans or foot soldiers to have well-balanced battles. This set, however, comes with four Uruk-hai and two Rohan soldiers (one of which is Eomer), giving you more oppertunity for a bigger army of bad-guys. I was hesitant about this set at first, but it turned out to be really nice. The wall included in this set can represent Rohan well, even if you don't have Helms Deep. The bastilla included with the Uruk-hai shoots missiles and works well . My only problem with the set itself was the second, unnamed Rohan soldier. I would have liked to see more details with his helmet and legs. He is a very simple minifigure, as opposed to all the others included in this set. Eomer has a nice sheild, cape, and accented helmet. The Uruk-hai have very nice body designs, armour, and weapons. Finialy, I think this set was way over priced. Despite it coming with six minifigures, I still feel it should have been about $20 instead of $40. The actual wall ab bastilla are not large, and take up less space than the $20 Mirkwood Spider set in The Hobblit line. Overall though, I do not regret getting this set, and it has been fun to play with. "

Great Set!
" I really like this set for a number of reasons. First, Fili and Kili are my favorite dwarfs, so I automatically wanted this set, and I will try to stay unbiased from here on. One really cool thing about this set is that the spiders' eyes and the skull glow in the dark. There are several functions including a spider-shooting part of the large tree. this works pretty well. The large tree tips over as well, and this works OK. Don't tip over the large tree if it is on a small surface, though, because (if you have put minifigs in the white nets) the minifigures will slide everywhere. Both spiders are coll, but their design could use some work. The upper parts of the legs are a little loose from the way they are designed. As with all LOTR and the Hobbit sets, the minifigs are excellent! Overall, a very nice set to have! "
