Full speed ahead Mr. Boatswain, full speed ahead
" A truly iconic model and one a I just had to get. It was a Christmas gift from my kids - after a few less than subtle hints ;)
The design is just brilliant and so completely eye catching. It's very much a display piece for me and it never fails to draw positive comments from people who see it.
I love the attention to detail and the special printed bricks really make it stand out as a quality build.
The minifigures are just fab (pun definitely intended) and look equally as good on the display stand or seated in the submarine.
Well done Lego for backing this design :D "

Almost Perfect
" This was a hugely enjoyable build with my young daughter, interspersed with lots of questions about the movie! So...
Pros:
Amazing attention to detail and loads of nice features.
The opening cupboard drawers are lovely.
The bathroom features are simply delightful.
The pool table (with pockets) and the printed dartboard are great. Using just flat tiles on the table would make it playable :)
Janine's desk and swivel chair are a very nice focal point on the ground floor.
The minifigures selection is amazing and Venkman's slime is a neat touch.
There are loads and loads of play possibilities, as my daughter's vivid imagination has proven so far.
It also makes a great display piece too.
Cons:
Very few, but by far the biggest for me is the variation in colour of the dark red wall bricks. All the 6x1 bricks in the first floor bags are a different shade to all the other bricks. This, for me, is a huge disappointment as complete uniformity is what I like and what I'd expect from Lego - especially in a set costing £285. Perhaps this is an intended design feature or maybe an unfortunate flaw, but either way a let down for me.
I think the first and second floor opening sections would benefit from the addition of a hinge for added stability during the build at least. I repeatedly found myself inadvertently breaking off the first/second floor larger opening sections until they were tied in with the top hinge and roof section. Each floor being held n with just 4 or 5 studs made them very weak mid-build.
Like many other reviewers, I'd have preferred printed bricks instead of stickers - especially in a set of this scale. I just don't like stickers.
Some bendy, glowing proton beams would have been a really nice addition to lasso those ghosts :)
I'm also trying to figure out what the pull down piece is that sits against the wall next to the bathroom. Is this a prop from the movie that I simply can't remember? "
