"I will admit I purchased this set simply because the only place to purchase lego in my city is Walmart, and this was the most challenging looking set available (along with the U-Wing, which I also purchased, incidentally). I was dealing with a lot of stress, and building is one of my escapes.
I was pleasantly surprised upon building it that it actually has a fair amount more detail than I was initially expecting. While the wings were a tad repetitive, it was a nice surprise to see that they’d made 1 part of each side of the wings the same, and the other parts the same. So you got to build 2 components twice as opposed to 1 component 4 times. This model is far from a UCS level of detail, but it was still a little more detailed than one can expect TIE fighters to be.
This model is quite eye catching. The size draws your attention, and then some of the simpler detailing is still impressive; the inner workings for the missiles for example, are always a nice touch in the inner works (though let’s face it, this is often just a ploy to add more pieces).
Overall, a tad expensive for a TIE fighter, but the sheer size of this model makes it nice for display, so it was worth it to me."
"I will admit I purchased this set simply because the only place to purchase lego in my city is Walmart, and this was the most challenging looking set available (along with Kylo Ren’s TIE Fighter, which I also purchased, incidentally). I was dealing with a lot of stress, and building is one of my escapes.
I was pleasantly surprised upon building it that it actually has a fair amount more detail than I was initially expecting. While far from a UCS edition, I can honestly say I do hope they release a UCS edition of the U-Wing, because this set was very fun to build.
Even more impressive is the shear size of this model. In flight mode, the wingspan is larger than the MF. I’ll admit, this makes it problematic to display in flight mode, but I will just have to display it in landing mode, or rearrange a few things to display this in flight mode if I really want to.
"I was reluctant to purchase this set as I found myself wondering how could they possibly have anything of interest above a Parisian Restaurant, but I was very pleasantly surprised. The amount of detail and thought that went into this set is uncanny.
The restaurant itself has an incredible amount of detail, right down to milk and cheese in the fridge, and a romantic couple in the middle of a marriage proposal.
The flat upstairs is complete with a Murphy bed and fireplace. A cozy little place for the owner/operator to live.
The rooftop loft contains an artists’ studio, including a kiln.
Overall, an incredibly personalized set; I can almost imagine the individual who would own this restaurant and live upstairs from it.
I love it. (Ignore the police officer mini fig, this is from another set I own (I stage my city a little differently)"
"This particular modular building has a lot of great things going for it; the diner itself on the main floor was detailed, and fun to build. Wish they’d given a stud for a stack of pancakes on the table to attach.
The gym above that was a simpler design, but still has enough detail to enjoy building this level, though it was a bit of a tight fit for some positioning/play. Again, I do wish they’d given a stud for the boxer to attach to on the actual boxing ring.
The recording studio on the top was probably one of my favourite parts. The detail that went into making sure it was as accurate as possible is impressive.
Some other nice details were the opening skylight, and the spiral staircase at the back.
The pièce de résistance for me was the pink Caddy. I won’t lie, my wife may or may not have wanted this set just for the car.
Overall, a great addition to any city, and a must have for any modular building fan. Like I said, just would have been nice to have some studded flats to attach certain things to."
"We purchased this because my father-in-law travelled Europe in a real one. One of my favourite builds. The sorting was an awfully long experience, but after sorting all pieces to make the build more enjoyable, I had the best time.
The detail is incredible, right down to a tire jack. The rising top is a very nice touch."
"The inner workings are incredible. The blowtorch and head movement makes for some amazing character in this model. The ONLY gripe I have with this model is that when you retract the blowtorch, the front panel does not close after it. Overall, a great addition to any collector’s arsenal, and time well spent."
