You know it's a good ship when...
" You know it's a good ship when you can't think of anything to improve on it except the cockpit (which are always under-detailed).
It's very compact and fits great in my 5 year olds hand for swishing around the air attacking everything (I don't let him have the ammo for the spring loaded shooters though...i'm not crazy).
As said, the cockpit was lacking in my opinion, so I made a few modifications. First I took the second two stickers which are supposed to go on the ground crew machines and put them on sloped pieces under each arm. Adds detail and color all around the pilot. I also added two control sticks on either side of the main computer. As well as a clear-blue HUD (heads up display). I then took the lid to the cargo hold, modified it a little bit, added a sticker from my stockpile, and changed the seat color to match. My pilot is now sitting on light colored bantha leather. sweet.

Awesome ship...let's make it better
" I have the previous Falcon so wasn't going to get this one at first. Til i found it on sale. SOLD! so glad i got it. Love the minor changes to the new one, and took the opportunity to make some "improvements" which i was planning on for the old one.
Me and my boys have to share our legos. So i can't just look at them like a model (not even the Saturn 5). Whatever changes i make have to survive a 5 year old. Anyway, as for what was modified by me.
Better landing gear! I scoured Google pics of the falcon before i settled on how i wanted to fix the landing gear flaw. Noticed it's 7 pads, the back 4 are essentially together in pairs. So that was the first modification i did. It's reinforced with red, 2x4 and 2x8 technic plates right now, to be swapped with more appropriate colors when/if they come into my inventory (one step at a time)
Next was the cockpit. I noticed the large computer sticker in the cargo hold has a suitable flight control on the bottom of it. So i bought a second set of stickers from another site and cut the bottom strip off the large computer sticker to be my new flight control.
Final major change was the front cargo clamps; the 4 inset mechanics sections. I took the ones from my previous falcon which are stickers on disks and combined them with the new design to give more depth and detail when looking in the holes, along with a few technic pieces (spring shooters still fire). Adding pics to show better than i can tell.
A few minor changes include more cargo and storage throughout the ship. And a open cargo door at the front. And since i had double the stickers for the new falcon and the old stickers from my previous falcon (and a few of the stickers on the Resistance Transport ship which I didn't put on) i was able to add more detail on the top side.
This Falcon is so worth the buy for kids to play with and adults to modify.

Lots of upgrade potential
" The first thing I do after putting together (sometimes during) a set is think of ways I could make it better; or at least better in my eyes. I try to think of most sets as a prototype waiting on me to make it more complete. Everyone needs a hobby, right? Anyway, this set had lots of room for improvement. Not saying it's not a good set as is, it's a beautiful set. But, let's get to it...
Everyone who has this set knows that you turn the knob at the back, and it rotates the internal bomb racks. You slide in a bomb and keep turning until you get all of them in. Ugh, one just popped out of the bottom. Or you do happen to get them all in and you're flying and do a roll, then a bomb drops out of the top. So, that was the first thing I did. Add doors: one at the top, one at the bottom. Now you can spin that bomb bay to your heart's desire and it never jams, and never drops a high explosive. It took a little rearranging, but that's why Legos are so fun, right?
Next major upgrade was the turret. I took the liberty of adding "mechanics" for control of the turret, just behind the pilot. Does it really operate the turret? Nope, but looks better. I took the canopy section off for the pics, but it still opens like normal when in place.
Last major upgrade was to the cockpit. Added more flight control features and computer elements.
Minor adjustments was to the area where the droid hangs out in; raised him up just a little so I could see his shoulders from the side and his face from the front canopy. Also added some detail under where the droid sits. Removed the spring shooters and smoothed it out (it just didn't look right). And added a clear 1x2 brick just behind the canopy so you can more clearly see through it and see the interior turret base.
Hoping to upload some pics.
Be sure to have fun with those bricks and make it your own.

time to modify
" We enjoy the Freemaker series so, despite bad reviews, we decided to get this set thinking the reviewers were being overly critical. All the complaints are understandable, but easily fixed with some modifications. We removed the mini scavenger and set it aside. Next was adding a floor to the rear section and making it lego person useable with a few home necessities. This set it best suited for children, and with some creativity it can be made their own.
The characters look great and they add good variety to our rebel fleet.

good modular set for some play time
" this set is a great toy...for children!...to play with!...not so much a collector's item (try tea cups or unicorns if you need something to collect and display on your shelf?). this thing looks like it was meant to be a actual PLAY set which is rare now at days. it's modular which makes playing with it easy. just separate the modules, lay 'em out, and have fun.
my 4 year old and I had a blast putting this thing together; and way more fun playing with it. it was entertaining watching him open and close the sliding doors; face all lit up with joy.
the rebels weaponry is nicely designed and look great (I've used some of their design elements and ordered some additional pieces to create a few systems of my own design)
very few gripes about this set; lack of imperial presence being the foremost...but i'm sure future Hoth battle sets will fix this, or past sets if you have them (I do not.) but a couple minutes after you sit down with (or without) your kids and play out the battle, it's all forgotten (though, those two poor snow troopers really take one for their team)
we do have a couple of the micro fighter snow speeders (and x wings, tie fighters, ghost) that we use for play since it's easier for his little hands to hold and fly.
I highly recommend this for parents who want to play with their kids, or parents who just want their kids to go play by themselves and leave the parent alone for a little bit (guilty from time to time).
ok, sorry for the "collectors" slam. some lego toys are good for display. but this one really does lean more towards actual play. have fun. "
