"While this is a great set and not what I usually purchase (technic builder) I found a couple of design flaws with this set.
First is the front number plate spinner, it does not sit in the centre of the surround that’s designed for it therefore it will not turn.
Senondly part of the ejector zest mechanism ( blue flat 4x1 tile) flies off when pulling the mechanism, I left this off in the end as there really is no point this being there to get stuck and cause me to have to dismantle half the rear end to fish it out.
Overall though for a non technic set I really love it. The way the seat ejects and clearly passes through the opening is bang on point."
"I picked this up today and although it only took 3-4 hours it was a fun build and is great value for money.
My only criticism would be that when the container is full off the rig the sheer weight is almost too much for the arms and plastic chains to handle. It takes a bit of force to turn the cog to get it back up (not ideal for motorising).
"Ok so firstly I was really excited about adding this set to my collection and I even bought 2 to have both the A and B models built but I may not bother with the B model.
The design is only average and could have been so much better from the “flagship” set @ £220. A few details that could have been added with little extra work are:
. Battery box could have had a cover. . Could have added a flatbed as looks really raw and unfinished. . Should have had a servo motor instead of the m motor for steering.
Functionality I was pretty impressed at how much this had to offer but then was soon disappointed that I can only use 1 remote to use all the functions.
My favourite parts of the whole thing is the support legs and the teddy bear.
Build was fun and with no numbered bags was a welcomed challenge.
I would not recommend this to anyone unless like myself and others you get this for around 45% off.
"So after going down to the new Lego store in Leicester Square to get my ir kits for making my sets radio controlled and some bricks I needed they didn't have what I needed as clearly the shop is there for tourists and not for Lego enthusiasts such as myself. Anyway I thought I would look at what technics sets they had in there and this one (42038) fought my eye as I'd seen on here it's retiring. So I shelled out the £60 for it which I thought wasn't a bad price for around 1000 pieces.
Low and behold I get it home and it's built in under 3 hours and the minimal functions that the power gives you is hardly worth the time adding it (at an extra cost I might add).
Not much to play with either.
Overall I think Lego could and should have done a lot better with this. It's a shame I can't take it back or I probably would as it's nothing like what the other sets I have are."
"After finishing the merc grab lorry I moved on to this beast and what a fun build it was. Although it's a very easy build (8hrs and I'm no expert) it is a fantastic Lego kit.
The only drawback is that it's quite glitchy in that even with the slight spaces as recommended in the manual the wheel tends to stutter round and the wheel doesn't actually pick stuff up you have to manually place things in the buckets.
Overall well worth the £200 especially as it towers over the merc arocs."
