"Since hearing about this project way back I was all ears for progress reports, every update I heard about got me more excited for when it was finally released, I wasn't disappointed when I finally got my hands on it.
Everything about the set was designed with thought and a desire to get it right, the instruction book with story behind the Saturn Rockets programme is superb.
Once I started building I wasn't going to stop until i'd finished and managed in 4 hours, every stage of the build was impressive, it just kept growing. The final product is amazingly brilliant.
What I don't understand is how a set that is as good a value as this is was also able to have printed bricks and not a single sticker????
I included a picture so you can compare the size of it with other large Lego models, it really is BIGGGGG !!!"
"Received this as a present for my birthday, had no idea about it and was wonderfully surprised as I had thought about buying it myself.
All the figures are brilliant, their clothes designs are down to a tee, all of the furniture, gadgets and shelves full of collectibles are great, even the whiteboards of equations, the telescope and not forgetting the Green Lantern Lantern add to the amazing eye for detail from the designer, hats off to you Ellen Kooijman.
My concerns aren't about ANY of the design but of the build quality, the pieces are from 6 different countries(see picture/s provided), this has to have a detrimental affect as there are so many pieces in this set that either aren't quite the same colour. I have supplied several pictures showing the different shades of what should be the same colour. Even the accuracy of the brick is questionable, 1 picture of the side left wall shows the pieces aren't fitting flush :("
"From seeing this model for the very first time I knew I had to have it, X-Wings are simply the coolest fighters in the Universe, we all know that, what makes this ever better is the colour scheme, black and orange with a bit of shiny silver thrown in, and then you ramp it up to 11 with a tiny BB-8.
Even so, the biggest error in the model is clearly the wings, they overlap each other which is clearly incorrect as we have seen from the trailers that they have released, as such I have altered the model using just the parts that came with it and made it look much better(pics included)
Other than that the model looks smart and sleek, the figures are cool especially the yellow visors with the helmets, the flick missiles are a bit pointless though and it does detract from the overall look, they could have done away with them, used a few different pieces on the internal structure as you can't see them, but it seems to be the way nowadays that they do this to increase the number of pieces used as a way to justify charging more, doing away with the non essential pieces would have knocked the price down by £5-£10 but they won't as they will sell no matter what."
"Literally as I saw this product on the lego website I clicked it and ordered it, it looked so much better than the 7191 ucs model launched in 2000 that I just had to have it and display it next to the original version.
The thing is as soon as I did display it next to the earlier version I didn't see too much different, yes there are subtle differences like the laser tips, engines, nose cone and the general tidiness of it(ie not so many different colours mixed together), but the cockpit is virtually identical and they both have the same stickers on the cockpit window, the original stickers on the 7191 model started pealing off in the first few weeks of building it and now look a mess, so I decided not to put the stickers on the new one. Also there are more stickers for this new version for the cockpit which makes it even more annoying.
Since these models are for display purposes only surely it makes sense to have the decals already printed so that they are always perfect, we pay a lot for these sets you could at least do this one thing for us, stickers are what children use and play with not adults for which these sets designed for."
"I've always been a fan of The A-wing since I first saw it in the movies and have bought every version of it that lego have designed, this though is by far the best A-Wing model yet and will be until lego decide to make a UCS version hint hint.
The build itself is easy and straightforward, it's solidly built and for play ability has the swoosh factor everyone likes.
The 3 minifigures are cool, the pilots helmet is a new design and looks good with nice detailing, Admiral Ackbar is as cute as can be and then there's Han Solo, why I don't know but he's a bonus mini figure, lego have realised us fans want more figures so looks like they've finally given in and throw extra figures in nowadays :D
My only issue with models nowadays is the stickers, they can make or break a models asthetics, place them right and all is good, put them on wonky and the look is kind of lost from a collectors POV, I really wish lego would print decals on the bricks like they managed to since the 1960's(maybe earlier) but seem to struggle 40 years later.
I say this because there are stickers which go over the cockpit, firstly they aren't long enough to go round the window like the instructions say(so I had to peel it off and try again, then again before I was happy it the sticker was symmetrical) and being on the cockpit they are more likely to get ripped/torn/worn off over time when you open it up to remove the pilot.
Overall though it's a good little model, the best one ive bought for about 2 years, still waiting on the UCS A-Wing though hinty hint hint
"Ive been waiting for this model to be released for the past 2 months, I ordered it as soon as it turned October and I received it 2 days later so kudos for delivery time(didn't pay express delivery either)
As far as the model goes it does look impressive and generally a solid build, I say that as there are issues with pieces falling off all the time, for example the rear of the cockpit, it has fallen off about 10 times since I built it since the piece that is supposed to hold it basically doesn't work so I had to redesign it already, secondly the lower weapon at the bottom of the main wing isn't fixed properly, already fallen off and since the base design is poor and the weight is unbalanced the whole ship fell off it and bits fell off so also redesigned the base so that it supports the ship if it were to happen again, don't want it to happen again since the model is on display and if it were to fall off again then it is total rebuild time.
Saying that, the main body of the ship looks good and is solid to hold, the lasers are big and well designed as are the photon torpedoes, the only other disappointment is the cockpit, it isn't right and for the price lego charged for the model they could have designed a bespoke cockpit window to look more realistic.
I think Lego should actually take more time to correct the issues I have mentioned as it is very easy to change the design, they must have known about the design problems and it isn't very nice for customers to part with their money only to find problems instantly after completing the model is it!
To anybody wondering about my title, im still waiting for you to build a UCS A-Wing hint hint(one that won't fall apart please)"
