"I bought 2 of these, connected them back to back and they look great. I removed the motor and hub from the rear loco and used them to power my Emerald Night. Great value train at £119 when you consider it includes, bt remote £20, bt hub £45 and the new train motor £13. I have mine automated with a colour sensor £13, using the powered up app, great fun changing speed for curves, stopping at stations and blowing the horn near tunnels ... toot toot. Andy."
I have purchased 2 of these from Lego.com and I have fitted one of them to my passenger train 60197, it's in the middle of the loco pointing down at the track, set roughly 5-10mm from the track sleepers. I had to experiment with different colours, red and white were good but yellow was also detected when track went over my laminate flooring. > I use red 4x2 plates on my track in stations stop the train e.g. to load/unload passengers. > I use white 4x2 plates on my track to call sounds and change speed, e.g. horn at tunnel entrance or slow down for a curve
With my room/flooring/lighting, all plates are recognised 100% of the time, at hi and low speed, when using red and white plates. I use studded plates as i think the smooth ones are too reflective/shiny.
"I got 2 of these when I purchased 2x of the latest passenger train (connected back to back). I removed the hub and motor at the rear and used it in my Emerald Night.
I tested with bt remote and phone app .... 2x motors (one reversed), lights and colour sensor all work perfect.
However, I have the passenger loco running with a motor in port A and the lights in port B, but I have nowhere to plug in the sensor ?
We need 4 ports per hub or y split-er, so we could do ....
1x motor 2x light 1x sensor (my passenger train) 2x motor 1x light 1x sensor (my emerald night) 2x motor 2x light
We also need long and short extension cables please Lego !
"I was worried about the poor reviews on here for this set, specifically the lack of wheels and axles in this set.
You can check what parts are available for a set by going to .... lego shop > bottom left of page > missing parts > buy bricks > search for 88011 and it shows ...
"3 bricks available for this set, wheels, axle and motor" so its not just the motor.
After ordering and receiving 2 sets, I can confirm the wheels and axles are included.
This motor is £1 more than the old one, but worth it i think, since it has sensor feedback and better torque as seen in YouTube videos and my own testing.
Note, you'll have to find/add your own couplers and any fancy trim you want.
Contents of 88011 = 7pcs ------------------------ 1x motor 2x axles 4x wheels
Don't forget, this motor is for the latest Powered Up hubs (Bluetooth) and it won't connect to the old Power Functions hubs (IR).
