Awesome Build!
" I bought this in June of 2017, and it has been sitting on a shelf, still in the box, waiting to be put together. The Millennium Falcon was first in line. I finally put it together today (January 6, 2019) and was I ever impressed!
This model uses crazy building techniques I have never seen before to get all the parts to fit together properly. Many of them blew my mind, especially the ridged section at the top of the second stage!
This model is much more suited to being on display rather than being played with, hence the 14+ age recommendation. That's not to say it is too fragile to handle. It is quite the opposite and surprisingly robust, especially considering the methods used to connect some of the parts. Most of the sketchy connections (ex. single stud clip holding a small sub-assembly) are used for cosmetic rather than structural parts. The UCS Millennium Falcon is very fragile by comparison.
The style and content of the instruction book's cover and preface give this set an Ultimate Collector's Edition vibe, which it really deserves.
So, I have the 21104 Curiosity Rover (from when Ideas was known as Cuusoo), the Saturn V, please ISS, become a set I can buy!!! "

Why such a high price?
" Flagship model checklist:
* Exotic looking sports car or awesome looking off road vehicle? YES
* Power Functions? YES
* Brand name licensing? NO
* Realistic looking? Maybe... The outriggers look very much like what you would find on a real tow truck designed to haul a big rig. The truck itself looks a bit like a customized Russian Ural-4320...
* Multi speed transmission? NO
* Suspension with shock absorbers? NO, It has a fixed front axle and the rear axles are just flapping in the breeze...
* Working V8 engine? NO Well, it does have a straight 4 which wouldn't have enough power to move the truck itself, let alone pull another out of a ditch. Gotta dock some realism points for that one...
* Play or Display? Definitely display only. The differentials and clutches hamper this model's driving capability
* Unique features? Um, do outriggers and a simple tow hook count?
So why does this set cost more than 42055, the biggest Technic set ever released? (42055 Bucket Wheel Excavator, 3929 pieces, $279.99)
The 42069 Extreme Adventure is a far better value is a better candidate for flagship status. "

This thing is HUGE!
" This is by far the biggest Lego set I have ever assembled. It is built rock solid too. I'm pretty sure it wouldn't suffer much if it fell off a shelf.
I read reviews saying it is too slow, but it moves probably 5-10 times as fast as actual scale speed would be.
I'm glad I built the motorized excavator (8043) a few years ago, the gearbox in this is every bit as complex as 8043's. "

Really cool looking
" This set is really cool. It looks the part (I've watched videos of dirt hill climbing competitions) except for the 4-cylinder engine. I know that Lego added it for the cool factor, but c'mon, nothing less than a heavily upgraded V6 is gonna get this up that hill! I was surprised that there were no instructions for motorizing this model, it really begs for it. However, I did see a video on YouTube with a fan made conversion - complete with steering. "

Awesome set!
" Having built the 42009 Mobile Crane MKII, and the 8043 Motorized Excavator, I was well prepared for this build. I really like the throwback to the 1970's Technic color scheme. I never owned a set quite that old, but I appreciate the nostalgia. The gearbox is pretty complex but no worse than the 8043's. Using the extra set of boom really makes this model look good. The boom just looks a little too short without it added. "

Just doesn't look like a Mustang to me
" The review title says it all. Its too long, the stickers put the headlights more on the side of the car, stickers had to be used to fake the actual shape. But that is coming from an adult life long collector. A kid would not really care about such things while playing with it. "

Perfect addition to my Arctic Explorer collection!
" I originally found out about this set from JangBricks' YouTube channel, and he was dead on with his review. Great value - even includes some unique sled dogs! "

Not even done building it yet and I love it!
" Ive, been building this for 6 hours and still on book 2!!! My compliments go to the people at Lego who designed the instructions. They are very clear and don't add too many parts in a single step (which is a huge benefit when building something this complex!).
I only have one small complaint: the dark grey transmission gears with the little teeth on the axle hole were not rendered in the instructions (Book 1, Page 20, Step 4); the instructions show a gear with no little teeth around the axle hole - I spent 20 minutes looking for a gear that didn't exist! LOL I flipped forward to see the other gears and they all were rendered without the little teeth, so I figured Lego's instruction making program couldn't render them that small.
Now the good stuff. This model is built WELL! There is bracing, there is cross bracing, and there is bracing for the bracing! Once I'm finished assembling this model, I'm very confident that it will not come apart easily. There are a lot of neat parts included, like the specialized axles. There are pneumatics and power functions in the same model! This is not unheard of, but very rare. You really do get a great value for the money. I'd even say this model is a BARGAIN! Normally, licensing fees, power functions and pneumatics would send the price through the roof - and you have all three in this model!
Since the single motor is stretched to its limits with two power take offs and a pneumatic compressor, and the fact that the already existing complexity of the model does not lend itself to accommodating additional motors or even IR receivers, Lego opted not to motorize the driving of the truck or steering. However, this model is already screaming for modifications (did I mention I'm not even finished building it?). I'm sure I could substitute a motor for the mockup piston engine, a pneumatic air tank would be a huge advantage, although finding a place to put it may be a challenge. I could change the gear ratio of the axles from 1:1 to 3:1. Working headlights should be easy. Routing all the wires may be a challenge. Then there is always designing different accessories that use the PTO. I don't even know where to start there. Its already got a pneumatic crane, how much cooler can you get?
I think that last line sums it up: How much cooler can you get? Not much. Congratulations, Lego. You have created one of the coolest models I have ever seen! "
