"I usually do not give low star reviews often but this model IMO deserved it. Obviously as many others have pointed out: the Price Point is way too high for what your getting. I believe Wal-Mart lowered it to $40.00 USD within the first week because they were not moving it off the shelf.
Anyway, money aside, when I started building this model it actually IS A FUN build. There are some cool techniques as well as nice designs. However, once you get to the end you WILL tell yourself, "this is it???". That is exactly how I felt. The stud shooters are so hard to fire because they are so close to the hull of the ship. The compartment for a battle droid is not a feature to me really. That is it. It really does not display well because it is a flat saucer and for some reason, I even put it next to the AT-AP Lego just released and the 20TH anniversary Kashyyyk set and it still looked odd.
In closing: fun build but when I was done I just was very let down on this one."
"I was very excited when I heard this set announced! I love the pod races in the books and in Episode I as well. This set is very detailed and the best set out of the 20th-anniversary wave IMO. Price is great for what you're getting too. I will give the review in the build bag order pattern. Bag #1 has the hand-held stand and the pod-racer. The racer is surprisingly detailed and is a major upgrade from the original Sebulba and Anakin pod set. I know many are agitated on social media this did not come with a Sebulba pod but this set is PERFECT without it. It is just Anakin and his pod racer. The 20th Anniversary Luke Skywalker minifig is nice but honestly, I am not a huge minifig guy but I am sure many fans will enjoy it. Anakin himself looks great and when he is in the pod it really jumps out from the movie. The stand is a nice thing too for the minifig on the 20th celebration. Bag #2 and #3 are the engines for the pod racer and they do not disappoint. I found they are very well detailed and when they are put together, they really look great. I appreciated the fact they put the intake valves on the pod racer with little cones and Technic hollow circles. The color scheme is spot on but maybe one day Lego can start making unique distressed colored pieces to give some of these models the disheveled look as they should have. It is a small set piece count but it is one of those sets that is fun to put together and feels a little longer to put together because of the small pieces.
Stickers: not too many but you do need to put 6 stickers on the tips of the engine cowls and if your OCD like me that can take you a good 15 min. to nail perfectly.
Manual: BIG GRIPE! Lego.com has an incomplete version of the manual online as I use my galaxy pad for the instructions. It only has the intro material and not the actual building instructions. That being said, the physical manual actually comes with a vignette that is UCS style for the 20th celebration. There are little details about the pod-racer and some nice movie art stills. A manual you would want to save.
Overall, great value for $30 and the hand-held stand makes the playability incredible if your a lego set player."
"As all of us are I am a huge lego fan -- in particular Star Wars sets.
It is a rare miss for lego with big Star Wars set but unfortunately, this is one of them.
First, the pros: minifigs are amazingly detailed and really good. The cloud car is pretty cool as well as Slave 1. Lastly, playability is none stop as there are many rooms to play in if you are a younger lego fan or older I guess there is not a problem with playing after all!
Now the cons: I am sorry, I know there is a premium on Star Wars branded items but this is not worth $350.00 for me. I really do not know who Lego was targeting here. It is not technically UCS but Master Builder which would justify the price I guess but with this price, I need to be able to display it. It looks horrible on display. It really is just a playset for a younger audience but with a collectors price tag. All my high-end Star Wars sets are able to be displayed and very nicely too. This set is awkward looking and I just do not like it in my opinion. The build itself was also kind of blah for me on a tech aspect, again for it being Master Builder (still not clear on this). Not super impressive but I admit the rooms and scenes are fun to build though.
Also, this may be of interest to some but my review of this set may also have something to do with the Harry Potter Hogwarts castle I just purchased. 6000+ pieces for $400.00 (Hogwarts) but when I saw 2000+ for this set at $350.00 it was a huge turn-off. Lego maybe next time space them apart so the huge price per piece ratio is not so glaring.
Anyway, this is this Lego collectors opinion and if you do enjoy the set that is awesome! For me, though I really felt like I wasted a lot of money.
1 caveat, If Lego took the Luke vs. Vader part and made that a mini set I would be all over that.
