Needs improvements but still amazing set! <3
" I'm a super hard critic on this so I'll lay this out simple to not overexplain. I love this set as my wife got it for my birthday and am proudly displaying it. But I am giving this a overall 4/5 stars as there could be a lot of improvements and it's most definitely not the most perfect build. I may add some things to correct things I listed below.
Engine bay was very well recreated including the supercharge add on. The body styling is very well defined without using custom bricks. Build instructions are great and super easy to follow, just don't rush the build! Take your time.
----- Issues and thing to improve on: -----
- #1 concern on this build of mine: the trunk. Huge overlook by LEGO. We shouldn't have to see the gears or structural parts. I added a simple 1x4 and 4x8 plate as in the pictures to quickly remedy this and would not have deterred from anything on the build. Better option (parts on order), is a 1x8 between the tan pillars, then a 4x10 should fit in the back on a 1x4 or 2 1x2's to completely cover everything without hindering the suspension adjustment. NOS tank still fits perfectly with these added.
- Huge complaint on this, the side stripes. Honestly should have been stickers, although I hate stickers, LEGO obviously cant print these on the bricks evenly, lots of them crooked or misalign and a couple wasn't even printed clearly, looked fuzzy or splotchy.
- Instruction book wasn't cut properly, see photos. :(
- On the build instructions... the instructions kept jumping back and firth on random areas of the car half way in and wasn't necessary, could have finished the doors, interior, rear, front/engine all at once but the instructions jumped back and forth a lot once the frame was all set.
- Grill emblem isn't centered, bad print alignment. Also cannot order a replacement piece.
- Quarter panel scoops top halves don't match the bottom halves as they should, the corner brick should be replaced accordingly with a corner plate, 1x1's plates, and 1x1 round plates to match the bottom half and won't ruin the structure.
- Could have added pedals under the steering.
- The tan gap on the top of the dash should be black to continue the flow of the dash as it should be.
- NOS tank should be able to be put on the center console as another user custom modded.
- Optional orange fog lights and headlight blackouts.
- As another user pointed out, the hood has a gap and doesn't close right. The cause of this is the 1x8 plate with rails. Take them off and boom, fixed. Maybe replace with 2x2 round slide shoes.
- Turn radius could be improved, not very good.
- Supercharger could use a V-Belt Ø15 like the engine, plus, why are the belts white? They should be black.
- The cross axle parts that hold the wheels are mismatched in color, the front ones need to be the same color as the back ones. Also… no tri-spoke hub caps for the wheels?
- Maybe make the spoiler an optional 2x14 instead of 3x14 in size as it seems a little big.
- In side of the doors could use work, could have added the reflector and a little more of the door styling.
- Could have added the quarter windows to the doors.
I'm sure there's more I may have missed but this is the main points.
But like I said, I'm a hard critic, but this build is a great set, with these improvements it would be so much better though. I hope to see another Mustang build come out again!
*cough cough* 1969 Mustang Boss 429 *cough cough* ;)
