"My son (six, but well versed in Lego building) built this set a few months ago and it continues to have long term play value. The build was straightforward but interesting. The play features such as the collapsible bridge and the chain bucket are fun without being fiddly.
The best thing about this set is its capacity for long-term cooperative play. While we have been pretty deep in the Chima world I've never much cared for the amount of weapons or the oddly male dominant universe. Since the Elves elements (fire, air, earth, water) tie well into parts of Chima the Elves have had a positive effect on our play. For example, my son has built additional buildings and vehicles for the Chima phoenixes who are of course friends with Azari.
If you have a kid who is into magic and fantasy play don't hesitate on the Elves sets! The strongest recommendation is from my son, who decided to spend his saved allowance recently on another Elves set (the bakery, also great!).
I really hope Lego adds to the Elves collection. It has a lot of promise but I worry it's pigeonholed as a "girls" set and won't sell as well."
