"This set has great building techniques and details but, it isn’t pleasing to the eye, the colours are jarring and the height seems to even. The street side of the set should have been ‘dustier’, more ancient but maintained. Pink, Lavender and Orange just don’t cut it AT ALL. For such an expensive set it looks more like the troll village from the Fairy line a couple years ago. (Which was great in a different scale...and with trolls). The many inside details are setting up different years of the movies. The shops are only 6 to 8 studs deep leaving room for 2D screenshots of an area of the shop. Where there is amazing details there’s not much room for characters so the action spills to the table. Where there is room for Characters there’s much less detail.
LEGO would’ve been better served introducing single modular stores. They lost the opportunity to make far more money. Anyone would JUMP at the chance to add a Modular Wizarding Store to their Cities!! Priced more within reach for people to buy one at a time like the Diner or Bookstore (which most Harry Potter fans turned into a Wizarding store anyway).
LEGO you have another chance to do things right with Hogsmeade. The Shrieking Shack in particular would be amazing! Zonko’s Joke Shop would be so fun, along with The Three Broomsticks!"
