"One of my guilty pleasures is building LEGO sets. Over the years, I have re-amassed a collection of Legos. There are some sets I get for parts, mainly Star Wars sets and sets like that, and others that I've been getting lately for display purposes.
This set is one of the latter, as it has some great display elements (like the trophy stand) and some that are fun to zip around your desk at work, irregardless of the looks your manager may give you. That may just be my situation, though.
For adults wanting a unique set for their City display I give this set a two thumbs up. For the "kids" who want a fun set to play with, this is a must buy."
"I'm a car guy at heart, even if I can't quote the exact displacement in cubic-centimeters of an engine.
When I saw Lego had LICENSED sets of various real cars, even if not 1 to 1 accurate, I was excited and had to get them. I started with the McClaren, and thought for the money it was a good representation. I then got this model, and finally the Ferrari LaFerrari.
Out of the three models, the Porsche Spyder is my favorite simply because it has the the best resemblance to the actual car. It was an easy build, never challenging, and the end result was a fun car.
Where I'd like to see improvement is with the wheels and connections. While the hubcap is accurate, the wheel itself has a lot of friction and does not role freely. There are other Lego sets with wheels that role VERY freely, even the Lego Camper roles better. This is ironic considering the whole line is the SPEED line.
One thing I'd like to see is maybe a Technic, or larger scale, version of the same cars available now that were more accurate and had detailed engines and other features larger sets typically have."
"I have found memories as a child of going on trips, and spending a lot of hours in my seat of the family van, travel trailer, and other vehicles.
When I saw this set I initially had reservations with it, that is until I got my first set. It was a very quick and easy build and for the size had some nice features. My greatest complaint was the interior was TOO small and cramped. There was only a small table on the inside, and a bed BARELY big enough for two minifigures, with one of them having to be on their side.
Aside from those complaints the camper is a fun little camper that reminds me a LOT of a small Toyota based Dolphin motorhome my family used to own. I don't know if this Lego camper suffers the same problem, but that poor thing couldn't climb a hill!"
"I bought this set not to build the primary build, but the alternate garbage truck to fit in with the other City themed vehicles I had displayed at work. It was a fun build and used up about all of the pieces, and, even left some room on the inside to put some of the unused parts!
Once assembled, it is a very faithful representation of a garbage truck despite the logos depicting the recycling symbol. If it was a recycling truck, why weren't either decals, or printed bricks, used to show papers, bottles, or other recyclable items then the fish and other trash that was included with it? This is probably my biggest gripe with the build.
I have yet to build the primary build, the one on the box, but I may do so as much fun as the garbage truck is. Even if you just need a garbage truck for your city then this is a good fit!"
"I missed out on the Lego Movie set that had the Port-a-Potty, and that was one I may still track down. Even though this set lacks the direct potty-humor that the movie one obviously had, the novelty is still definitely there.
The set is laid out in the numbered bags, with the truck, trailer, and toilet in their own bags. The assembly is very easy to follow, and fun. There were no surprises and everything clicked into place with the typical Lego precision and quality.
Once fully assembly you have a very interactive set for the $25 price. You get a City Utility truck with bed sides that can fold down, a left side driver position (with obligatory coffee cup) and quite a few nice accessories. You get minifigure accessories such as a shovel and a broom, jackhammer, refuse/recycle can, construction barriers and even a small control panel.
The control panel is in the left rear area of the bed and adds a bit of realism for the boom used to life the toilet off of it's trailer and onto the ground. The best part is you can actually use the boom to pick up the toilet and have it hanging for display purposes! If you have a Lego City display, this set will look fantastic next to or at a work site! The only thing I think could be better, was if there was a Technic version of this set with moving parts on all elements!"
"If you want a set that has a lot (four) of the new flick missiles that are available, this is your best bet and best bargain.
For the $20 price, you get two Super Battle Droids, and a new clone trooper as well. The details on the new minifigure are pretty nice, but the standard clone trooper head is getting long-in-the-tooth and in need of a slight refresh and change.
The playset has some nice features like the translucent elements being used for wheels, and similar elements that make it pretty visually interesting. The biggest limitation is probably how quick and easy the set is once it is assembled, and really doesn't have a strong visual presence to warrant displaying the set on it's own."
"I'm a car guy at heart, and when I found out about the licensed Lego Speed series, and watched some video reviews, I was sold. So far, I have bought all three of the first wave of basic cars, the McLaren P1, Porsche 918 and this model. Out of all three, this is my second favorite behind the Porsche. The Porsche has a silhouette closest to the real car, while the Ferrari has some really nice details and lines.
If you have a choice between all three, I'd say start with the Porsche, then this model, and finally the McLaren."
"I bought this, not knowing much about the set, on the premise that if I didn't like it I'd sell the minifigures and use the base model for parts. Well, I really like it because of the visual appeal. It isn't just gray plastic, and has a very nice sharp blue used as one of the primary colors. It looks great on display or, in your hands. Just don't take it to work or your co-workers may want to play with it, too!"
