"I bought this set for the carolers and the large, decorated tree. I am setting up a holiday village with my kids, and this set is a wonderful addition. I have a skating rink of my own design and a few other holiday sets and general building sets from Lego.
The only improvement for my purposes would be more carolers. :)
Thank you, Lego, for re-releasing this classic set!"

Modular Mania
"This was my first modular building, and I loved building it. It triggered a kind of mania to buy and build the others that I could get (pet shop/brownstone, Parisian restaurant, and detective's office/barber shop). Since I can't get my hands on the older modular sets, I am now designing my own to fill out my Lego street.
Pros: Fun to build. I learned a few new building techniques from this one. I'm considering buying another one just for the bricks, to use in a design of my own. (Like a museum for the research scientist ladies who don't have a building.)
Cons: None! I know some fans don't like the stickers, but I am more likely to buy a second palace cinema to build in a new way because I can just skip the stickers. The extremely specialized, printed pieces in the Detective's Office and Parisian Restaurant can't be reused as easily (or at all)."

Expensive Little Lego People!
"I've got the paleontologist, snake charmer, bad wizard, samurai, classic king, and Egyptian warrior. I wish we could just buy what we want. Personally, I'd have purchased the paleontologist, samurai, fencer, unicorn girl, hot dog guy, and disco diva. The others are fine, but they are so pricey, and I don't know anyone else who collects these to swap. I end up giving away the duplicates and the ones I don't like as much. My kids will like the two snake charmers and two bad wizards that I got.
Pros: Fun details, creative spectrum of figures. I enjoy building little dioramas (or entire buildings) for my favorites.
Cons: Expensive and you can't just pick the ones you want. I have tried feeling the packages, but I'm not very good at it."

Cute, pocket-sized model
"I have mixed feelings about this set. When I purchased it, on 1/1/15, I did not know what I was getting. I expected more than a Lego baby for the Lincoln statue. (Check Bricks 'n Pieces, that's the piece name.) I expected the Lincoln Memorial and the White House to go together for display purposes. There were no reviews yet to warn me of the very small size of this model.
All that said, I did enjoy building it and the cute little model kind of grew on me.
Pros: As a stand-alone, the model is easy to build, nice to display, and the small size could be an asset if you want to display at work or elsewhere in a small space.
Cons: If you have other architecture sets, The White House in particular, this set is much too small. The scale is not consistent between the sets, and I don't feel that I can display these two side-by-side.
Value for money: Leaning Tower of Pisa, White House, Big Ben, and Fallingwater are all better buys for the money.
Bottomline: Know what you are getting and what you are NOT getting and you may like this set."

Birds are Awesome!
"I rated for build and display purposes, because there is not really any "play" with this set.
Display: Each of the three birds is beautiful. I put them up on my desk at work, along with a classic space guy and alien.
Building Experience: Fun to build. I liked learning different techniques than constructing buildings (ground to top) or vehicles. The Ideas page has more bird designs and I'm feeling inspired to attempt a few more.
Value for money: $15 per bird seems very good. A much better buy than sets with licensed minifigs or one of my other recent purchases, The Lincoln Memorial."
