Lego street plates.
" Eagerly awaiting the next shipment of these road plates to tie in my four Modular city buildings, the Cafe Corner, Fire Brigade and so fourth. Good quality plates and graphics that can handle young nephews when they visit. With a tip found on line from adult Lego building sites, along with some light gray 2 by plates and 2 x 2 tiles helps tie (Okay, they actually don't snap together, but they do work visually ) modular buildings to these street plates with the help of placing an additional building plate beneath each modular building.
One wish for Lego is they offer two straight plates per package as I really don't need four intersection plates along with four strait road plates, but I'll deal with it. :) "

LEGO Power Functions: LEGO Power Functions Train Accessories Pack
LEGO Power Functions: LEGO Power Functions Train Accessories Pack
This accessory pack will give you the ultimate power to motorize and remote control your trains. With the new #8879 IR Speed RC handset you control the power on both outputs of the # 8884 IR Receiver - you can control the speed of a motor in both directions or even dim the light. The Power Functions RC system has 4 channels so you can run up to 8 trains at the same time (2 trains on the same channel but on different outputs). The #8882 XL Motor is the strongest motor LEGO has ever made - it is able to deliver the high torque needed to drive even large trains. The #8870 Light provides 2 bright white LED's each in a compact housing made to fit inside a Technic hole - this gives an easy fit even when the space is tight. With the new # 8878 Lithium Polymer Rechargeable battery you do not have the worry of changing batteries all the time. Charge it up with the #8887 Transformer and you are ready to go again. In cases where you just want your train to drive without remote control, the Rechargeable battery has integrated speed control of its own: Connect the motor directly to the Rechargeable battery, set the dial at the desired speed and press the green button. And while we are at it: Why just control the train? With the Power Functions RC system you can build all sorts of control: Level crossings, switch points, cargo cranes - only your imagination sets the limit. Kit includes: #8870 Power Functions Light #8878 Power Functions Rechargeable Battery Box #8879 Power Functions IR Speed Remote Control #8882 Power Functions XL Motor #8884 Power Functions IR RX #8887 Power Functions Transformer 10VDC Own them all and SAVE!

Kit used for retrofitting Lego 9v train.
" I decided to purchase and use this Power Functions train kit as a retrofit for the Lego High Speed train (#10157) and three passenger cars (#10158).
This particular train engine was a good model to try out the new system as the battery and IR sensor fits quite nicely inside the engine model with just a few extra plates. I'm using a 9v train motor which when coupled with the rechargeable battery drives the engine and passenger cars with plenty of power, in fact enough that at full speed I can derail the train on a 45 degree turn from a straight line.
The remote control felt like it had good range and even at times when the train was not in line with the remote, the signal bounced off the off-white walls of the room my train is run in and still controlled the train model. Only in very out of the way areas I lost control, but those are for very short periods of time.
Charge time is a bit more than two hours, with running time around three hours before the train shows considerable slowing. (I ran two 90 minute runs as the battery will stop the train after two hours, per design.)
I've not used the large motor yet, but would like to adapt it for a remote switch track at some point. I've also not used the lights as the model's light I've purchased on-line works better for the model. I've ordered the 9v to Power Functions adapter wire to connect the battery to the train engine lights.
I realize that this set-up has a few disadvantages to the 9v system, but as far as a rechargeable battery/Power Functions set goes, I'm impressed.
I now have both a 9v Freight train and the High Speed commuter train going at the same time and it's definitely enhanced my train set collection.
Nice job, Lego. "

IR Speed Remote for Lego trains.
" I bought the IR speed remote as part of the Power Functions train kit. It was a little smaller than I anticipated but I was able to quickly adjust to its size. It feels fairly comfortable in my hands (I have somewhat small hands for a guy!), quite lightweight even with batteries installed. Range, I felt, was reasonable with my current layout being approx 10 feet by 24 feet in size. The room the track is located in has off-white walls so even at times when the train is not in direct line-of-sight I've still been able to control the train as I suspect the signals bounce off the walls of the room.
My only minor issue with this unit, compared to the older 9v train speed regulator is that you had a specific location of the dial to know if your train won't go too fast risking derailing which is not available on this unit as the control wheel lacks a stop position, but I was able to get a feel for how fast the train could go.
On the plus side I do like having remote control function so I didn't have to be teathered to a fixed location, plus the quick stop button is very usefull too.
So, for a battery operated setup, I like it. "

Power Functions rechargable battery.
" I purchased this battery as part of the Power Functions Train set. I've adapted the kit into the Lego High Speed train engine (Model #10157) and three passenger cars (Model #10158). I found the size of the battery fit very well (With minor modifications) as the engine is a six-stud-wide model. Sorry that the passengers can't sit in first class, though. :)
The recharge takes about two hours and running for a total of three hours on a full charge (Two 90 minute sessions.) So with a second battery, you could probably run a train indefinitely. I'm also running the battery connected to a 9v train motor which has no trouble pulling the engine and three cars, in fact I can derail the train at top speed into a 45 degree turn from a stright-away.
So, for Lego to go from a 9v to a rechargeable battery system, there are a few draw backs, (Liek having to stop a train to recharge or exhange batteries) but if you're on the fence, I say go for it. "

Jewel of India in Lego
" The famous Taj Mahal, a mosque commisioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in honor of his favorite wife (I've heard women can be expensive, but the guy must have been loaded to spend that kind of money in honor of his favorite wife. Just kidding ladies!) must be impressive in person, as this model is really amazing when you have it built in your home.
It's an amazing model with tons of details. I personally feel it's better to sort the bricks instead of digging in a huge pile for them. I also grew rather tired when building the walls one at a time so the corners I did all four at the same time. It felt less tedious.
Play... I'd not want to 'play' with a model this expensive, but as other's have suggested, get some mini-figs and get creative.
What's also really cool is how 'modular' this model is. You can fairly easily take it apart for storage and that's a good thing because if my parents knew I spent this much money on a 'kids toy' *scoffs at the idea of it just a toy* they'd give me similar treatment to what the son of the Emperor who had this structure (It feels a shame to it to call it just a building.) did.
