"I built this over the course of a few days, as the lead assistant for a determined five year old. A lot of it was accessible to her, although some of the trickier technic pieces were more for me in terms of the instructions and the execution (to be clear, the difficulty rating is relative to the top level of complexity and scale in the SW setting, like the black box sets).
I ended up liking it a whole lot more than I expected, and as a design and use of cool Lego tricks, I think it's much more successful as a design and as a toy than either of the X Wings we've built, which are more fragile and more fiddly, and have less things to do when they are being played with. It has a lot of really nice playability features, although I'm excited to see that the new imperial shuttle actually uses the interior space more fully for minifigs rather than the (very cool) mechanical underpinnings that are the heart of this one.
It's very sturdy and resilient for everyday play, and of course the Kylo minifig is a very cool addition to any collection. A much stronger recommendation than I would have expected. Only downside is the thing inherent to many craft builds, which is having to do one side and then do the other mirror image, which is fine for me but can try the patience of kids.
