"I was not going to get this set originally, so glad I changed my mind. It is the second best of the new Technic sets released in the summer of 2018.
The build was straightforward and not at all difficult. Once you build it the fun starts.
The lift works well, and the tilt of the forks is really well done. The rear steering may be accurate, I have never driven a real fork lift. The pallet with its container on it can be replaced with all sorts of other things, I have been taking the brick heads for rides on it lately. The fork lift can actually be lifted by the new crane.
All in all, it is fun to play with the forklift, I have not disasembled it and made the alternate build yet, I will do that once I have a chance to do so."
A nice set but you can't let the kids play with it
"The car is lovely, it goes together quickly and there are no real surprises. The chromed parts really make it pop. My only complaint with it is, you can't really let someone jyst play with it.
The chtomed pieces make it stand out and the ejector seat is a great feature, but when my neighbor went to play with it, he picked it up in a way that the front left chromed piece went flying and the rear left back window did the same. I was not watching to see what he did, but I have let this kid play with some of the Technic sets with no problem, This set is really more of a display piece, or an adult toy. You can't let a ten year old just play with it.
Other than that, it is a well designed set that looks terrific."
"I enjoyed this model, it is very attractive and makes me want to travel to China to see the real thing.
The build is very interesting, there are no real confusing steps in it. It goes together very quickly. Even when in the initial sreps yo do not think it is going to work, it does.
I loved the way the joints were combined to make a continuous run (apparently). Whoever designed it had a great idea, and implemented it well. Architecture may one day take over from my favorite sets (Technic) if the designers can keep the high quality sets going like this one."
"I went to the Lego store on release date and purchased this set. I spent a couple of hours each night building it.
As a crane it is a fitting replacement for 42009, it is more complex and a lot of fun. It has some features which that crane has, some that 42042 has, and it adds a longer boom.
Like 42042, everything runs off of one motor and it is a brilliant instruction on how to use one motor to drive multiple systems, this in itself made me like the crane. There is a lot more to like about this besides its elegant use of transmission of power.
When I say this is massive, I am not kidding, it is a meter tall with the boom fully extended. However, the build does not feel overwhelming at all. It is well organized into sections. The instructions are split into two books and the parts are sorted into 13 sections.
Finding parts this way is not too daunting. Total build time for me was about twenty hours split over three days.
The crane lifts more than I thought it would and the spindle winds and unwinds the cable extremely well. This one won't tangle and the cable unwinds and winds back onto the spool by a very clever use of two pulleys that travel on axles.
The designer(s) of this crane did a great job. I just wonder if they took into account the two linear actuators being driven by the same axle, the gears travel in opposite directions which means at times one of the linear actuators may have a larger stress on it.
All in all, a great flagship model! Thank you designer(s)"
"I originally was not going to get this set, however I went to see it and decided it was a set worth a try.
I started the build and worked on it a couple of hours a night. It is an easier build than the Porsche, and it is more satisfying. The design is good, the model is dense, there is not a lot of room to motorize it without removing other parts.
The model weighs a lot, it has some interesting challenges, and it is a lot of fun to put it together.
The color scheme is ok, the model is vey sturdy once completed, The engine being visible is a great feature.
The shift mechanism is nice, even though the transmission is not visible with the body put together.
The designer did a great job capturing the look and feel of the car, the build process was enjoyable even the way they actually marry the two halves of the car.
"I love the way this set looks, it is a stunning display piece which I look at every day. The set is surprising, it has both a modern, contemporary, and a classic look.
Whoever designed it did a great job, it is truly a delight to look at. The little touches are unexpected, but very well done.
"I saw this was available and felt it would make a great addition to the growing Lego display of places around the world.
I think it should have had a sticker with Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. It really does need that.
This is a really nice set and I have it by my door welcoming people to my home."
