Start your city with this set NOW!
" I've always wanted to start a Lego City, but it seemed daunting, as many cities have tens of thousands of pieces, and dozens of minifigs populating them. If you, like me, feel like you don't know where to start, then you've come to the right place.
BUILD: 2/5
Lucky for me, I had a pair of green baseplates to hold everything together, but I just feel cheated that they didn't include one. 40 USD retail price is a lot to ask for for just minifigs, and when you're done "building" (just building the minifigs up and the small accessories they come with), you really have to imagine the park where they are at. The green baseplate really helps the park come alive, and you have to add that to your shopping list if you're even considering this set to build a City. That said, the small builds go nice once you have that back set; small, simple, but nice and enjoyable.
MINIFIGS: 5/5
Of course, it is a people pack, so we couldn't expect more from the build. Suffice to say it is worth it for the variety: ages range from baby (first ever Lego baby) to a pair of senior citizens; genders are evenly mixed 7 to 7 plus the baby which is dressed in white, so you may make it out what you wish; accessories excel with a bike, lawnmower, stroller, and best of all, a wheelchair. The prints are very nice, although it would have been nice to see more print on the legs, as well as more secondary faces for the minifigs.
OVERALL: 5/5
Most sets don't include a baseplate anyway, so I'm not gonna punish the final score; this set needed one, is all. But really, you're getting more than enough diverse people to start to make a block of your City. It really begs to begin building around, so I'm glad that we have a real starter City set, and not just one with specific employments (although indispensable) like Police and Firemen. We get, simply put, normal people in a normal park in a normal City, so get it and start building the City of your imagination!
SUMMARY: Get. Period. Save those extra 10 bucks it would cost to build them separately at the Lego Store minifig creator thing, and use those savings for your next City set! "

Great Haunted House for a Lego City!
" Growing up with Scooby Doo makes having the gang in Lego form an absolute delight. I intend on displaying this set in my City as a haunted mansion, and I must say it stands out beautifully. Fans will not be disappointed, as this unique set is so true to the original material.
BUILD: 4/5
The build is taller than expected; the central tower feels the right height to intimidate the minifigs. The exterior is very nicely decorated to feel abandoned and sketchy, but in a cartoonish way. Where it falls short is in the interior: the ideas are good (a greenhouse, a kitchen, an attic, the vampire's clocktower), but there is limited space for the minifigs to interact with the interior. You'll have to rely on imagination for those classic hallway chases between the villains and our heroes.
MINIFIGS: 5/5
I would have given it a 4 for not including Fred, but let's be honest: even if he had been included, fans would not have had a complete gang without the Mystery Machine, so this doesn't disappoint me (I would've liked different Shaggy and Scooby between the 2 sets, but that's another story). The hero minifigs are amazing, as they are as close to the original characters as possible, with custom hairpieces, two faces for everyone, and very detailed print on the leg for the gals. The villains are great too, specially because their secondary face reveals the true person behind the disguise; excellent hint to the original Scooby Doo.
OVERALL: 4.5
This set is worth it's price. If you, like me, appreciate sets that are locations over more frequent vehicle-based sets, you will enjoy this one. For Scooby Doo fans, whether for display or play or both, it holds true to the cartoon and allows for younger imaginations to create their own mysteries with the given hints and locations, so you will delight with it. Excellent design and enjoyable build, just wish there had been as much detail on the inside as the outside (see Ninjago's Temple of Airjitzu interiors; yes, it is more expensive, but with a 100 pieces more and a retail of 10 USD more it could be done). All in all the pros outweigh the cons on this one for me.
SUMMARY: Get if you're into location-based sets and/or are a Scooby fan. "

Chess at it's most fun!
" Lego products have always been about encouraging creativity, not just entertainment. Chess is a game that goes very well with these values, and this set is up to the standard. It is a very fun introduction for any child into the actual game, for it will relate to the familiarity of Lego minifigs. Personally, I collect chess sets and this has become my favourite having just spent over am month owning it.
BUILD: 4/5
The board is very sturdy, with just enough space for figures to move comfortably. The jumper 2x2 bricks are a good choice for the actual checkerboard, but the ease of moving the figures comes with the downside that they will fall easily by accident. However, the addition of the beach on either side is a great decision to add to the Legoness of the game, as it can serve to display the set in a compact way if there is no space in the house to display the full set. It travels well with the integrated storage compartments as well. Makes me want to create my own chess sets following these instructions for other themes (ahem, Star Wars).
MINIFIGS: 4/5
If you're looking for a way to build up a Pirate crew and a small Bluecoat arsenal, look no further. The repetitiveness of the pawns is why I´m knocking off a star on this one, but they are of good construction and design nonetheless. I would have hoped personally for a better choice in some of the other figures, such as incorporating an actual knight or equivalent instead of a map, or the parrots on the Pirate's side look more like knights while the stone skulls appear more like towers.
OVERALL: 4/5
This is a fantastic set that makes me wish they had chess sets for every theme they make. I'm sad to see that this product has been on sale for so long, probably due to the low sales it has had (I hope to be mistaken on this assumption). I encourage more parents support sets like these that not only promote imagination and creativity, but critical and strategic thinking as well.
