Amazing little jet!
" Ok. Where do I begin? This little set had caught my eye from the moment it was released. I love the other planes and how it fits in with the rest of the lineup. I bought it in the LEGO Store in Westfarms mall in Connecticut.
Box/Instructions
The box is the smallest I've ever seen in the Technic lineup, and it is absolutely jam-packed. 2 bags, instructions for the A and B model, and 3 large technic beams really stuffs the box.
Parts
This set has quite possibly the largest amount of white panels in one set, particularly when that set has 113 parts. It adds a lot of valuable panels to anyone's collection. The white panels will make people very very hot for this set.
The build
This was an average build. There was nothing unique about it except for the way that they attach the rear panels that serve as elevators.
The completed model
It's really remarkable how LEGO crams a function into the fuselage of a tiny little plane. It is really fun to watch how the gear retracts and there's even a gear locking system (though it doesn't work amazingly well). The colors work well together.
Overall opinion
This is easily my favorite set under ~200 pieces. It does so much in a really small little kit. The gear retracting system is ingenious and if you look at it the right way the part of the landing gear that juts into the cockpit can be seen as controls! The plane easily holds its own in the current Technic lineup of planes. All we need now is a green plane to complete the Technic lineup!

Amazing build!!
" This crane is amazing. I got it for christmas and it kept me busy for the best part of 2 days (including building by flashlight late at night!).
Base:
The base of the crane is really fun to build. The steering is complex but easy to put together - they give you instructions on how to do it! The outriggers could be stronger, but honestly those small linear actuators aren't meant to lift 5 pounds of crane off of the ground. The engine is fun to build - but here's the only bad thing I have to say about the crane: The engine is not really too visible when the boom is down. It's a minor little detail, but that V8 should be shown off. It shouldn't be hidden under the boom!! Moving on... The cab is fun to build and is actually rather attractive (for a crane!) Functionality is great - steering range is decent for a 2 foot model, gears are hidden as best they can, and until you put the boom on the engine is clearly visible. I like where Lego put the steering gear - in the back so when driving you can push and steer at the same time. I really like that!
Gearbox:
Wow. All I can say is wow. This gearbox occupies 2 whole books - as big as some lego sets - and it is really really REALLY dense. I'd say that the gearbox (with batteries and all) weighs half the weight of the whole crane. When building, beware: there are some gears (6542) that if put the wrong way a function doesn't work. At all. The motor and battery box are used in here and the battery box is cleverly used as a counterweight. When finished the outriggers on the base can be used.
Boom:
This boom really amazes me. It is short (18") when fully retracted but when fully extended it almost triples in length. Building it is fun and it's really a relief after the gearbox. There is nothing of importance here as it does nothing on its own without power functions.
Final Note:
This really is an impressive set. All functions are motorized and the winch actually can lift my 4953 Fast Flyers, which has around 400 pieces. Any more than that the clutch gear kicks in. Without the clutch gear it can lift my 4993 Cool Convertible. That's really impressive! The cord is really high quality - I haven't tested how much it can lift but all I know is it can easily hold the weight of the crane itself and probably more. This crane is really amazing in terms of how many functions they cram in there - and they're all motorized!! 42009 really is a centerpiece and I get all kinds of praise on it - from both people who don't really like lego and diehard lego fanatics like myself. I would recommend this lego set to just about anyone but I will say that younger children or people with absolutely no experience with lego should not get this set because I've been building for 7 years now and I had trouble with it. But still, this is a great set and it easily gets a 5/5!
