"I loved the idea of this set. I was able to get it on a Black Friday sale so the value is there. It already is a decent bargain for the full price, so when I snagged it on sale it was a win-win.
It only comes with 6 minifigs which is fine but I would have added Vader, a Stormtrooper and an Imperial Commander. Six for a set like this is about par.
The build is interesting. It has you build the base then the ship is put on in components. I knew the repetition of the 11 engines would be boring but they are fast enough builds. Overall the build was a fun one.
The ship is so loop sided heavy that a kid can't play with it. The engines are 2/3 of the weight of the entire ship. Another issue is there is barely an interior. The ship could have had way more interior details.
On the other hand, the Star Destroyer doesnt have ANY interior so this can at least be played with in some capacity.
The escape pod is cute but it is a miss. It's not like the movies. I'm not sure how this could have been changed but I wasnt a fan of it.
Overall, this is a fun build and a nice display piece but my kids won't play with it and are generally disappointed. You win some, you lose some."
"My 7 year old received this as a Christmas gift. He built it in the morning and was in the tub playing by lunch.
Yes it floats and the ship doesnt turn over easily. It makes for a lot of playing in the water.
The set has a lot of fun features that make it extra special. My kid actually liked the giant boat pieces. I know this rubbed people the wrong way but to hear that a kid liked it I was forgiving about it in terms of fewer bricks.
"My kids and I have been building lego sets since 2010. Of the large Star Wars sets the Ewok Village and Sandcrawler were the favorites for many years. This set may replace those.
The value for the money is there. As many mini figs as the Ewok Village, same price. More individual characters whereas other sets provide duplicates or more droids (Death Star, Sandcrawler).
The set is straight forward to build but so much fun. My 13 year old built the bulk of the set but any of us could jump in on the next bag and not become lost.
The younger kids (10 and 7) love the way the set can be opened up and customized. The Jawa hut opens and detaches for example.
The set folds up nicely for display and is not nearly has bulky as the Hoth or Bespin sets.
