genuinely awesome set...with some issues
" I have loved Lego since I was a kid and now as an adult with some disposable hobby income, I truly enjoy working on the more complicated sets that have been appearing.
I bought this set the first day that it went on 'early' sale for VIP, didn't even hesitate (I have a very tolerant wife).
I finally got a chance to build this thing. It was such a fun build, absolutely loved it. It is easily the largest set I have purchased/built, with the closest being the UCS Sandcrawler (#75059) at 3296 pieces. I have been waiting for a large/UCS star destroyer for so long. I could not afford the original UCS ISD (#10030) or the Super Star Destroyer (#10221) at the time of their releases, and now of course they are even more expensive, so it was a pleasant surprise when this was revealed now at a time when I have the income to support it.
While I love this set, the size, the build process, and the display power, I do have some concerns and issues that I would point out, in hopes that Lego reads these reviews and takes feedback into consideration in future releases.
That being said, I genuinely feel that this set is too expensive. As awesome, large, and detailed as it is, it is lacking the comparative detail that the 2018 Millennium Falcon (#75192) has. I am truly disappointed that this set did not come with a Darth Vader mini figure and at least two storm troopers (in addition to the two that it DID come with)..and honestly if it were up to me, it would have come with even more, but at least including the iconic figures would have made so many people happy. That it didn't come with those, truly boggles my mind... For a $700 set, how does it NOT come with the most iconic figure directly related to it? Sure, I can buy a separate Darth Vader mini fig to display with it, but it is the principle of the fact... for the price, additional mini figures should have been a no-brainer...It really wouldn't have cost Lego much to include them (in fact, it might have help this set sell even more as I know the mini fig count is one of the biggest hang-ups for a lot of people). The lack of such iconic and directly related mini figures is almost as frustrating to me as the lack of a UCS information plaque for the UCS Sandcrawler...(don't get me started on that one... another truly mind boggling decision).
I must concur with other reviews that there are some stability concerns with the stand from a 'side-to-side' perspective, it doesn't feel as stable as I would like for the weight of this monster. Not sure how I plan to display this beast yet, but whatever I come up with will HAVE to involve strengthening that stand.
It also appears that I have some warped pieces. I will upload some pics to show this. It causes some 'flaring' of the nose bits and some misaligned seams. On the particular panel that seems the most warped, the warping also appears to cause the panel to hit the cross member section of the frame (shown in pics)... the set is definitely put together properly and I disassembled the section a couple of times to review...additionally, this is not an issue on the other side, which is identical.

I can also relate to some of the other reviews that snapping in the top body panels can be frustrating. The ball joints are understandably tight, I like that they are...But when snapping the ball into the socket, the bricks supporting the ball piece can very easily pop out of the panel. This can be especially frustrating when putting on the last panel as there is no way to reach inside and support those bricks as you snap the balls into the sockets.
Over all, as stated before, I love this set and I loved the build process. I DO recommend this set, but only for the most die hard fans of Star Destroyers that have the disposable income to handle it. The value of this set is going to vary drastically from person to person.
Thank you for a great set Lego, I am looking forward to what the next 'mega' UCS set will be. "
