 LEGO Warriors: Takanuva
LEGO Warriors: Takanuva
After surviving an attack by the Makuta, Takanuva now finds himself controlling both the power of Light and the power of Shadow! Granted even greater power by the energies of Karda Nui, this mighty hero is ready for the fight. Armed with a Midak Skyblaster and a three-pronged power lance, he is ready to challenge any enemy. Midak Skyblaster really fires! Three-pronged power lance is 11"" (28cm) long! Takanuva stands 12"" (30cm) tall!

Twilight Tale
" Takanuva, the one and only Toa of Ligt, has made an eventful return this year. He was attacked by Shadow Leech, leaving him with control over Light and Shadow, transported to three different dimensions, and finally arrived in Karda Nui, whereupon the mysterious energies there caused him to grow to amazing size. And thus, the largest Toa set ever was born.
In fact, Takanuva is a contender for largest titan ever, let alone Toa. He towers over this year's other true "titan", Icarax, largely due to the fact that he is entirely custom-built, aside from his lower arms.
One of my favourite things about this new incarnation of Takanuva is that it greatly resembles his original form way back in '03. Whilst the Toa Nuva's new masks and armour have just a passing similarity, the new Kanohi Avohkii is clearly recognisable, and the chest armour is styled like Nuva armour was on the older set.
Takanuva is also kitted out with some new tools, to suit his new form and powers. Given to him by a Nynrah Ghost engineer from a parallel dimension, Taka nows carries a Power lance that amplifies energy, so as not to waste what remains of the Toa's Light powers, and a Midak Skyblaster, which fires Light drawn from the environment rather than the user. Both weapons are very neat, the Skyblaster is great fun to launch rapidly at some unsuspecting Makuta.
As far as poseability goes, Takanuva is excellent. His articualtion is well done, without being over the top, like on Maxilos last year. The small pieces that help support the arms hinder the range of poses slightly, but not to a great degree.
As they both cost £20, some people may be needing to chose between Takanuva and Mazeka. Having both, I shall offer some advice for those who need it.
Those who are fans of the more recent poseability-focused titans sets, should go for Taka as he offers a simpler build and is easier to "battle" again other sets.
People who liked the more Technic-esque construction methods from the early years of Bionicle should probably go for Mazeka, as he offers a more challenging build, and a mechanical function. Then again, those same nostalgic folks may want Takanuva for old times sake!
Overall, Takanuva is an excellent set, and a good buy for almost anyone, whether you want to battle the set against Makuta, display it, or just want him for old times sake.

 LEGO Warriors: Mazeka
LEGO Warriors: Mazeka
Mazeka travels to Karda Nui on his Helryx Swamp Strider to strike for the Order of Mata Nui! This brave Matoran dares any danger to stop the evil Brotherhood of Makuta. His Midak skyblaster turret rotates 360 degrees and comes with 9 light spheres. Adjust the legs of the swamp strider, load your skyblaster and prepare for battle!

Brilliant fun!
" The largest of the store exclusive "Special Edition" sets this year comes in the form of a giant, walking turret gun. How could it NOT be awesome?
The build is enjoyable, you'll be oohing and aahing as you realise how all the functions are constructed and go together. The only real downside is the irritation of having to build the four near identical legs, though building them simultaneously speeds things up.
Once constructed, you'll be faced with a monstrous machine and its heroic pilot. The Swamp Strider is surprsingly large, towering over most other titans (not sure about Takanuva).
The legs hold the weight well and aren't hard to position, unlike smaller quadrapedal sets, possibly because they only move up and down.
The Strider's Midak Skyblaster is in fact a nicely intergrated Zamor Launcher, with a neat clip that can hold up to 10 spheres (1 more than the set includes).
The courageous Ko-Matoran has the same basic design as the Av-Matoran sets from earlier this year, and neither does he get a unique Kaniohi. That however, is to be expected as store exclusives never contain new molds.
Overall, Mazeka and his Swamp Strider are a great addition to any BIONICLE collection, a worthy opponent to Vultraz and his Skyfighter, and certainly one of this years 'must have' sets. "

Great Fun
" A great set. You get a villian, two heroes and an accessory all in one set!
Karzahni himself is lovely, with some nice recoloured pieces. The only faults with him are that his claws are somewhat loose and the wide armour on his upper arms restricts poseability.
The mutated Sarda and Idris are essentially the same as Dekar and Defilak from earlier this year, but with gill tubes and larger feet. Their inclusion in this set not only boosts the amount of Mahri Nui Matoran available, but also allows you to set up some neat battle scenes with this set alone. Another point worth mentioning here is the Great Ruru (first seen on Toa Whenua in 2004) is available here in a new colour, dark blue.
Finally, the Matoran's large trap is a fun addition to the set, and also sees the return of action features like those on earlier sets. The trap's function reminds me of Nivawk from 2004's wings in particular.
Overall, this is a great set, with good play value and pieces for MoCing with.
