"Awesome, fun and colorful. No repetitive steps, clever use for small rooms furnishings and connections. Designers showed their love for this project. The tech pin holes seem to hint at a future expansion in the future. Lots of stickers but understandable to keep the price reasonable. Easy to apply with the window cleaner trick. The Muppets are priceless, Jim Henson would approve, "Easter eggs" galore. Get it, well worth the fun and end result."
"Enjoyed the intricacies and attention to detail. Amazed at the way all parts came together and the designers skills within a rather complex model. The stand is a bit insecure for a fairly heavy model but it does work. Engine and gearbox are great. Windscreen is too milky. All parts were accounted for and red color was consistent throughout. I also took a link out of the chain to snug it up. Instructions were excellent."
"Too many have stated they thought Lego mislead them into thinking they could build all four portraits with one set. Practice due diligence before ordering please. All reviews online clearly state you can build all four but only one at a time, as does the Lego site and the box art. I don't like to see a good product penalized for that. It was a jigsaw style fun project for me and I enjoyed the process doing George first and liking the end result a lot. I don't plan on displaying all four so I'll shoot a photo, dismantle and start another. No big deal, think of it as a 4 in 1 set. Great packaging, graphics and instructions Lego Team and even though I'm color blind I made it happen. Next time numbered bags will definitely help."
"I like that it's all brick built and not a very repetitive build. The color palette really makes everything pop. I "borrowed" one minifig from my barracuda Bay and stored the shark, though clever, and the seagull. Those were a bit cartoonish but maybe just right for the younger builders. Overall, very well done and entertaining."
"The magic bricks strike again. Masterful, precise fit and connection alignments, Clever solutions, especially around the transom area. Fun "play" situations like when my shark gnaws on the oar and the lookout in the Crow's nest has his bottle of rum. The Lego Team has really set the clever bar high on this set, a classic. Well done!"
"A pleasure to construct and very worthy for adult interest but easily suitable for younger builders. Congrats to the lead designer. I was particularly pleased with the subtle brown color. The color choice has a natural "aged" patina appearance in natural light and plays down the normal shiny brick look. The details are very well done and tend to be quite authentic. It's a very solid and strong built construction. I appreciate the color coded parts that aid orientation. There was plenty of heart and soul in the design of the packaging and product. Directions were great as usual and the only caveat for me was the color contrasts in the manual we're a bit on the weak side. Other than that, good job Lego Team! Now I'm hoping for a circa 1800's logging industry Shay, geared steam locomotive, in the future."
