A surprise to be sure...
" I mostly just buy Star Wars sets. I really only bought this one because I’ve run out of Star Wars sets to buy (or can’t find certain ones). I’ve got to say, I’m glad I bought it. This is one of the most detailed sets I’ve come across. It’s got a lot of complicated moving parts, pieces set in unorthodox ways, and at odd angles. Far from a generic build.
The cost of the set is somewhat prohibitive, but well worth it. There have been a few sets that I’ve felt weren’t a good value for the cost, but this isn’t one of them. There were a lot of details that some people might consider unnecessary, and the set would be cheaper without them. But those details are what make a set worth spending hundreds on, in my opinion.
Those small details, complicated moving parts, and unusual building methods have made this an impressive set. I can’t imagine how much work went into designing it. The engineer deserves a raise. I’d love to see them design more sets of this complexity. "

Awestruck
" After 2 years of debating, I finally decided to buy this gargantuan -and expensive- set. The cost had kept me from buying it at first, and I’m sure it will do the same for many who are also considering to buy it. I must say, if you’re debating whether or not you should spend $800 on a lego set, STOP. Cease the debate, ignore the price, and just go ahead with it. This set is so impressive that I stopped thinking about the price by the time I was to step 3 (of 17) of the build. If you’re capable of getting this set, you’ll never regret the money spent.
That’s not to say the set is perfect. There are always pros and cons. In this case, the good heavily outweighs the bad, though. First of all, the level of detail is fantastic. Even more impressive than the size of the set. The falcon is gorgeous. It is a great display piece if you have room for it. If you want it as more than a display, the UCS Millennium Falcon isn’t going to work as well as a smaller version, though. It’s big enough to where you can actually have the characters walk up and down the easily accessible loading ramp, unlike the smaller version, and adds things that are missing from the smaller one, but it’s too big for a child to pick it up and fly it around the room. It’s also a little fragile for play (though plenty sturdy to pick up, transport, and display). There are areas of the ship that aren’t detailed (just hollow space), that are detailed in the smaller version. But the rooms that are completed are so well done that it more than makes up for that.
Overall, it’s an amazing set. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with it. I have more to say, but I need to get to sleep.
Buy this set if you are able. You’ll love it.

First LEGO disappointment
" I have never been disappointed with a LEGO purchase before this set. The set itself isn’t that bad, but there are issues.
I mostly build sets for the fun of it, then put them on display. These Mario sets have pathways between landmarks that make the set take up more shelf room than is necessary. As a set meant to play with, that may be ok, but the play itself (according to my 5 year old daughter) isn’t as fun as just building and doing your own thing with the Legos. Also, as a display piece, the set suffers because of the markings that trigger Mario. Having a lego goomba on my shelf would be more appealing if it didn’t have a barcode on it’s head. None of these things are terrible on their own, and I would be mostly neutral towards this set if it weren’t for my one big issue... the digital booklet. I want an actual booklet with my set. Every time I sorted through pieces, I had to unlock my phone again because it would go to sleep. I had to constantly zoom in and out. It made it impossible to enjoy the build, and the build is why I buy Legos to begin with. I’ll even buy sets whose themes don’t interest me at all just so I can build them, then take them apart and never look at them again (and I’ve always been happy with even those kinds of sets).
I sincerely hope that digital booklets are not the future of all LEGO sets. I will never buy another set with a digital booklet. I could download the instructions and print them out myself, of course, but I shouldn’t have to. After paying for a set -let’s face it, they’re not cheap- I deserve a booklet.
