"I purchased this set at the Lego Store on day 1, so I also got the 2 promotional sets, but I wanted to experience the starter course on its own first. First, you have to download the app, which is the backbone of the experience, providing instructions and course ideas via Lego life. It's well made, but strangely, it makes my phone, a new Galaxy s9+ overheat. Strange. I understand why instructions are on there (help teach how it works) but it would have been nice to at least have the option to use physical instructions. After the super quick and easy build, you have a pool of course building items at your disposal. I must say, it is quite enjoyable to build a course, make a few runs with Mario, and rebuild it. The materials included are super basic, which is fine because it's the starting point, but it would have been nice to get at least one more enemy. Two seems a bit of a stretch. What makes this system really work, of course is Lego Mario himself. He is so fun to just bounce around or whatever even without the sets. His reactions are cute and he is, for the most part, responsive to your movements. Sometimes he'll read a gesture incorrectly, but other than that he's phenomenal. Truly a collectible figure. So of course this set is the start, but is it a good one? Yes, it is. The play experience is good, maybe not for everyone, but good. The builds are uninteresting for anyone over the age of 6, but provide basic materials for course building. Overall, I recommend this if you have any interest at all in this. Trust me, it's a heck of a lot more fun than it looks."
