"I was looking forward to building this set and finally got around to build it over the weekend. Sadly, a bit disappointed.
Ninjago have become some of my favourite sets recently, the new mechs just seem to get better and better, I am looking forward to getting my hands on the new 71738 and a couple of the island themed ones.
But about this build.
The idea of using this as a tabletop game is cool, it is something that I played with a bit and I am looking forward to giving this a whirl with my girlfriend one of these days.
The overall design of the tabletop side of this set its rather good. Nice detail all over.
The dragon itself is cool, though my favourite feature is easily the head. Awesome detail and use of different Lego parts to just make the design work perfectly.
However, there are some flaws. Mainly regarding the balance of this little beast. As is, there only seems to have one position where it remains balanced and sitting on its four legs, otherwise most times it ends up tilting forwards which is a pity.
It is sorely missing at least one more rotation axis at the top of the front leg.
The wings are cool but being white and non-printed below remove a lot of their appeal. Also, the way they interface with the body remove a lot of its ability to pose.
The tail kind of moves on its own volition and given that it is so hard to balance, it ends up coiled forward most of the times.
I will have to probably get around it and do some changes to the design, mainly around the front legs.
But I am disappointed that for the big price, this set feels somewhat unfinished."
