" I love this set. I got it expecting it to be two or three inches smaller. This is the biggest set I've gotten so far. I love the details in it: the three stories, the cat and especially the old-style toilet and the water tower.
The only thing that I don't like about it is that it's kinda hard to get inside the barber shop. But over all, it's a GREAT buy.
If you have the money, buy this now!! "

" Coming off from the Parisian Restaurant was going to be a tough position no matter what. The Parisian Restaurant was what got me back into Lego, and I quickly purchased all the modulars except for the Cafe Corner. With that said, the Detective's Office simply felt inferior to the Parisian Restaurant's level of detail and complexity. The "play" aspects of cookie smuggling felt unnecessary in this level of lego model. The barber shop could have been more complex if not for the fake wall, and the lone kitchen at the top felt like an afterthought to the build, but necessary for the "play."
I will say the pool hall is wonderful. The actual detective's office is also detailed and wonderful. I feel that the rest of the building could have maintained that level if sacrifices were not made to accommodate the smuggling aspect. "

It is great to have you as a builder of the Creator Expert modular series and that the Parisian Restaurant brought you back to building with LEGO bricks!

One aspect that has continued to be called out with this set is the "story" that Jamie shared with all the builders. These stories have actually been incorporated in the creation of every modular building but we have not shared them for previous sets. Being a toy company that makes LEGO sets for children of all ages it is important to show that even a modular building can be played with. Many builders are seeing this story as an allocation of resources that took away from the set when it actually was just a bonus Jamie and the Creator team wanted to share with our builders.

I will definitely share your concerns with the "story" and how you believe it took something away from the set but our designers will still have these stories as it is what drives them to create these amazing sets. It is, however, important to know how every new feature and function effects different level of builder.

" Very good. I liked the hidden compartment and the pathway between the barber's shop and pool room. Decent minifigures would prefer to see a crook and a child. If possible, could a police car be added. My only problem is the barber's shop is a bit too small. "

" We were really looking forward to this set, and all the great building ideas and features suggested. And while after finishing the project on the outside it looks nice it hides a large disappointment. For the first time that we can remember the set had missing pieces. (Especially the water tower with multiple panels missing.)
The worst part though is the lack of thought out scale to the barber shop section. Previous building builds allow enough room to actually play with the building interior. The barber shop is horrible at this as even my kids couldn't use features or figures without knocking over or breaking accessories. Play should always come first, and the designers this time completely forgot that important point. Very disappointing. "

You are absolutely correct, play does come first. The tight space in Al's Barber Shop has been discussed and our designers will continue to be discussed as it is important to have play functions for kids of all ages.
