"This is my 7th modular in the series - I have all of them from the Fire Station onwards. I enjoyed the experience of building this one, and although I accept some of the comments by others on here regarding the size / poor storyline of the building, I think it actually fits well within the street I'm building and was a nice departure from the big buildings of the past that perhaps lacked some of the interior details that this and the Parisian Restaurant provide.
The build itself was relatively straightforward and as others have noted, there are many small parts to this this build compared with the Town Hall for example. The area I like the best is the ground floor which contains the pool hall and barber's shop. There is a small archway between the two which is great for providing access to the rear of the buildings. In my town I have the Detective's Office and Parisian Restaurant sat back-to-back, which provides a cool back alley area, allowing access to the rear of the restaurant for the moped. I think too many people just focus on what the front of the building looks like rather than appreciating that there are possibilities for the areas to the rear and this set is one of the few that actually allows you access through its design.
The rest of the build is OK, the detective's office is quite cool, but for me the toilet and kitchen area don't really fit in that well (the kitchen especially - where are the people who cook there supposed to live??).
Overall, this set is nice as a one off and fits in with the other modulars well, although you do have to be careful about where you place it as it is not as high as some of the others. I do hope that Lego carry on the modular theme into 2016 and will revert back to a more traditional sized building that we can make up our own storylines to."

"Absolutely love the Detective's Office and tell everyone about it. I show my visitors the different things on each floor, such as the safe in the wall, the pool table, policewoman getting a hair cut, the water closet with the roll of toilet paper, how the water tank was made and where the cat escaped to (the roof). Love the Detective's Office! Going to get another building as soon as I can."

"This is a great starting point for lego builders to take on a decent challenge. This is my first big lego creator set and honestly don't feel any disappointment at all. I built the set in sections taking a break each day after three hours. I built each level starting with the first level and working on the second and third each day. Instructions are pretty good tho there are two color blues that can be mixed up easily towards the bottom which if mixed can cause pain trying to get to them to fix. There are lots of features I like including the fan over the pool table on the first level to the hidden compartment in the detective office. The one let down is the building by itself is not that attractive looking, not ugly but not really interesting either if you have others in this set it will make it look way better I think. Overall get it, lots of fun and worth the money. Yep"

"I have a few of the modulars and they all impress on their own level. The detective’s office is no exception! The build for me felt pretty simple and straight forward. The detailing isn’t on par with the Parisian Restaurant. But don’t let that fool you. This set has tons of play value. The little story that lives inside the set is where it is at! The office on the second floor is definitely something to behold! I love the outside look of it too. It feels gritty, the detective’s office above the pool hall! The barber’s shop is great too! I wish there was a little more space so my hands could fit better, but that’s okay! I just gotta be a tad more careful. There is a sink, mirror, clippers, dresser, light fixtures! I highly recommended this set!"
