"A fab fun build with great playability and interesting build techniques. I like the pool hall and the overall look of this set. Another must have on the street."

"I have every Creator Expert Modular Building set in this series, from the Corner Café & Hotel (2009) to this year’s Brick Bank, and every set in between. I now have a completed square city block which I display atop a makeshift table made from cheap saw horses and a 4’x4’ plywood sheet. Once it became apparent to me that Lego was releasing a new Creator kit every New Year’s since 2013 and the release of the Palace Theatre, my partner has been insisting on getting me the year’s latest set for my birthday, which is actually 4 days before Xmas (sure, there’s a bit of delay before I receive the new set, but at my age, I’m no longer counting). And the Detective’s Office was no exception. However, this was the first time I experienced a bit of disappointment & frustration with a Lego Creator Modular Building set. It’s hard to put my finger on what generated a sense of disappointment – I guess the set just seemed a bit lessor than previous sets, for lack of a better word. All 10 of my Modular city buildings are attached to one another, and form a complete square city block which I display on a makeshift table made from cheap saw horses and a 4’x4’ sheet of plywood. When I walk around this “table”, the Detective’s Office still sort of jumps out at me as the “runt of the litter”, for complete lack of a better phrase, compared to the other buildings. My frustration was due to several difficulties I encountered simply trying to get various assemblies to stay attached to where they were supposed to be (the water tank on the building’s roof comes to mind), and other fragilities of significant elements of the set that should have been so fragile. But, having said all this, it’s still a Lego kit, it’s still an awesome experience to work on these sets, and in the end, I still enjoyed myself immensely, although I had to exercise self-control by limiting the amount of time I worked on the set (typically no more than 90 minutes/day), a practice I began several years ago after it was apparent I would otherwise start & finish building a set in the course of an evening, causing me into “Lego Withdrawal” for a whole year until the next set would be released!"

"I was making up my mind for few weeks before this purchase. I wanted a big set and ended up choosing from modular buildings (Parisian Restaurant, Palace Cinema and Detective's Office) and The Simpsons House. Although I love Homer's family and the cartoon itself, I went with the Detective's Office after watching couple of reviews online. The story behind it was quite nice (the cookie-smuggling plot) and the building itself looked very nice with the brick finish, "Pool" sign etc.
It took me about 9 hours total to accomplish (3 days stretch after work). I wasn't expecting anything really difficult and couldn't name it "Expert level" after building it as well. But there were moment when I caught myself pretty entertained with the way some bricks were connected giving the specific result (very detailed fan, the "Pool" sign mentioned before, pool itself). Detail level is incredible. I love the kitchen and the office (desk, table lamp, newspaper stall and the exterior staircase).
I enjoyed this set a lot. I love the way it was designed with regular bricks, not with ones made specifically for a set. Well - that's why I love the whole idea of modular building. Regular smiling face is a cherry on top - so classic.
I really loved the whole building process and the result is totally satisfying. I would recommend it to anyone starting the adventure with modular buildings. I'm looking forward to buling another one. Maybe Pet Shop before it is retired.
Overall this set is pure fun. Go grab one, you won't regret it."

"usually I rush though building new sets to see the final product. this time, however, I found myself stopping every few step to enjoy a few new tricks that the LEGO team has come up with. A ceiling fan over the pool table, functioning fire escape, and a set of "speakeasy" like tunnels for extra sweet deliveries. great details in each room. amazing!
