A Building Packed with Detail: Brilliant!
" I'm not usually a massive fan of Super Heroes, but when I saw this set and the details in it, I knew I had to have it. The last big building I had bought was the Haunted House and I really enjoyed building it, so I thought this set would be a great addition to my buildings collection. The building took me about six or seven hours over two days to build and the build is challenging yet enjoyable. Not much in the way of anything fiddly, the main gate is probably the fiddliest to construct.
Right, the minifigures. You get eight: Batman, Robin, The Joker, Scarecrow, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Dr. Harleen Quinzel and a security guard.
Batman: He's a standard black, and comes with a bat wing attachment instead of a cape and comes with Batarang accessories. Nothing too unique to this set.
Robin: He has a unique outfit for this set, which is good. He comes with a small cape and a staff accessory, and has a double-printed head to change his expression.
The Joker: Just for this set, he comes in his 'prisoner' outfit, and has a double-printed head to change his expression. A nice minifigure.
Scarecrow: Another character which I think is unique to this set. He has a detailed head and torso, but plain brown legs.
Poison Ivy: This character also appears in the Batcave set. She has a double-printed head with different expressions, a detailed hairpiece decorated with ivy and detailed torso and legs.
The Penguin: He comes with his umbrella and fish accessories, and has a detailed torso. His head is only printed on one side, but with good reason.
Dr. Harleen Quinzel: Truly a character with double personality! One face is her 'work' face, but you can remove her hair, turn her head around and put the jester hat on her and turn her into the villain Harley Quinn. She has an area in the building where you can store her jester hat when she's not being a villain, a nice feature. Her detailed torso also suggests her double personality. A very good unique minifigure.
Security Guard: Nothing too special, just a standard security guard, but is unique to this set. Perhaps this set could have done with two security guards?
The van: Perhaps a bit small, but it works. The front and back doors do open, but I found the back doors a little tricky to open. If you have this problem, let me suggest using the included brick separator (they're very versatile, aren't they?) to lever open the back doors. The roof of the front cabin is removable for you to put a minifigure in the driver's seat. The van only has one seat in the front. The back can hold a neat-looking stretcher with a minifigure in it and it simply slides in and out. Beware, though: the van won't fit minifigures like Scarecrow or The Penguin in the back.
The gates: Like the rest of the set, it has wonderful gothic detailing. The opening gates themselves are interesting to put together and wonderful to look at. I particularly like the two statues either side of the gates, constructed with minifigure torsos and wings, the same wings you can also see on the Chima Raven minifigures. The use of spears as railings on the sides of the gates are good. The gate also features a security camera, simple yet effective. The gates are great, but are a bit flimsy especially when you move them, e.g. to put them away.
Now the building itself. The attention to detail is absolutely amazing, everything from the walls to the gargoyles to the plant material growing on the walls. The windows are fiddly to construct but they absolutely do work, so it's worth it.
The main entrance doors: Lego could have easily just used a door mould for this, but I'm glad they didn't! There's a certain quality to the main doors and look amazingly good.
Now the interior. There's eight rooms spread throughout three levels. Four of the rooms are cells and are generally all found on the same side of the building. One cell is for The Joker, one for Scarecrow (both on ground floor), one for Poison Ivy (the cleverly designed transparent cell on the first floor) and one for Mr. Freeze (the only room on the third floor, the top of the tallest tower). The set could have also come with Mr. Freeze himself if there's a cell for him!
Apart from cells, there's also the security reception (first room beyond the main doors) with phone and a desk, a treatment room with a work table and a bed, Harleen's office and her changing room below that. The changing room is cleverly disguised, which I suppose is necessary!
There's wonderful exterior and interior detailing in this set, and for that I give top marks. But with regards to size, it's big, no denying that, but it's a bit flat in depth. The building could have done with a set of stairs leading to each floor and perhaos extra roof elements. Apart from that, it's an amazing building.
Overall, I absolutely recommend this set to not only Batman fans, but general Lego fans looking for a building with amazing detail and that is enjoyable to build. Yes, it's expensive, but when you buy it you won't regret it!

The Wolf Pack
" Since I had many ravens, lions and crocodiles, this set seemed ideal for balancing things out in my collection. The Pack Tracker has plenty of features that made this set stand out. Okay, first things first, the actual model looks way better than the pictures. Plus, it's currently the only way to get the Wolf Winzar. That alone is a plus point.
First the minifigures. There's three: the wolves Wakz and Winzar, and the Eagle Equila. While Equila has amazing detailing and structure, with the wings, shoulder armour and eagle head, it's the same Equila that you can find in Target Practice and Equila's Ultra Striker. Equila's weapon is interesting, though. It's made of a lightsaber blade and a new mould axe piece which is gold. A good weapon. Wakz is the same as you get in the CHI Battles set, but this time he gets his silver shoulder armour, giving him that extra look of brutality and bulk. Winzar is unique to this set and is a very well designed Wolf member. He certainly looks very battle-hardened with his facial scars, which give him an air of identity and character. A Wolf member well worth having.
Now the vehicle. Put simply, it's big. The suspension gives it the stance of a charging wolf, which adds to the coolness factor. The wheels attached to the end of the suspension are a new mould, I think, and are the right size for the vehicle.
When you roll the vehicle along the ground, there's a function that moves the wolf's mouth up and down in a 'chomping' motion (so you wouldn't want to get in the way of this vehicle's path!). Don't think you're safe behind the vehicle, either. The back ('tail') of the vehicle has a winch function with claws on the tip. The winch could have done with a third claw to form a gripping device to hold unfortunate minifigures, maybe? It's not hard to add this yourself, you should get spares of the parts that form the claws in the set itself.
The vehicle features plenty of good pieces, including a very long white Technic axle (longer than the 12M ones!) and some panel pieces.
Of course, there's the cannon. It's a fairly standard cannon that's been around for a while (one of those spring-loaded ones), and it works extremely well. Flick a fang piece on the cannon and it shoots a projectile very far. What's more, you can easily aim it thanks to a ball and socket joint attached to the cannon, much better than those 'clicking' joints. You can remove the cannon and then it becomes a wolf pickup truck which you can load with wolf minifigures!
Top marks for the vehicle's styling, too. It certainly takes on the persona of an angry wolf. Which is probably the case.
One thing: The flame exhausts are nice, but they do look like they were a last-minute addition as they stick right out of the vehicle. But that doesn't affect the overall appeal in my opinion.
Overall, a brilliant set packed with features, but perhaps Equila could have done with a little vehicle too? Apart from that, highly recommended for the vehicle and the Wolf minifigures.

Bring on the Rancor!
" Now I'll admit that I don't often buy Lego Star Wars sets, and often when I do, it's because there's a minifigure in it I really like. This was one such set, and I simply bought it for the mighty Rancor. When I assembled it though, there was a whole bunch of other cool features in this set.
First, the minifigures: You get five, if you count the skeleton. The minifigures are Luke Skywalker, a Garmorrean Guard, the Rancor keeper Malakili and, of course, the Rancor.
I'll start with the Rancor. What a great minifigure (if you can call it that!) it is! The Rancor is made up of 19 parts, eight tan colour claws, four articulated fingers, two arms (one with a sort of chain link cuff), chain piece, body piece and jaw piece. The hands can easily hold onto an unfortunate minifigure, and the mouth can just about fit one minifigure into it. They could have articulated the legs, but that's a minor quibble. By far the standout minifigure of the set.
I apologise in advance if I don't know a lot about the characters! But anyway, Luke Skywalker and the Rancor keeper have double-printed heads so you can change their expressions. Luke has 'Relaxed' or 'Determined/Scared?', the Rancor keeper has an odd expression and 'Sad'. The Gamorrean Guard is cool but the head and chest is all one piece (you can't turn his head), and he's the only figure that's not exclusive to the set (he also appears in Jabba's Palace). A good point is that most of the figures are set exclusive.
Now the pit itself. It's been designed to link onto the Jabba's Palace set (which I don't actually own), which is a nice but rather pricey feature. The trapdoor from the Jabba's Palace set will lead into the Rancor Pit.
Don't let the tiny piece count fool you into thinking you're going to get something tiny. I thought this, but you'll actually be quite surprised that it's fairly chunky and large. Still, a few more pieces could have been chucked in to make the set better value!
Still, the pit is packed with features. The gate is very cool. There's a function that lets you hold it open, or lets you slam it down. There's a hidden cubby hole with some bones and a key inside, and it's location is marked by a skull. The skull helps you remove the lid of the hole to access the key to get out!
The gate wall is also on a hinge which is held in place by a clip. You pull the gate wall gently and it will pop out of a clip. I'm not quite sure what purpose this serves, perhaps it's to open up the pit to let the Rancor move about?
Another good thing is that there's absolutely NO STICKERS in this set (but I think you can see that in the picture).
Oh yes, and while the Pit is easy to assemble, you should pay close attention to the instructions, it's too easy to misplace a brick when building the pillars!
Cons: There isn't enough pieces, and while the Pit is fairly large, it should be far bigger for the hefty price tag attached to the set.
Overall, the good just about outweighs the bad on this set, and the Rancor is probably the single strongest selling point. On that reason I recommend this set for anyone's Star Wars, or even just general minifigure collection.

A Great Technic Bike!
" Ever since I received the Technic Superbike a few years ago, I have been a massive fan of Lego bikes, picking up a Furno Bike and the Speeda Demon (from Hero Factory) and have loved and customised all the bikes. So when this different style of bike came along, I was excited. It's an off-road Moto Cross bike (the first Technic one Lego have done, I think) and it's extremely good for the money.
A common function within Technic sets of this and similar size is a chain linkage, where turning a back wheel causes pistons in the engine to move. This shows the sort of attention to detail that Technic sets display. It's a nice feature, but you probably won't pay that much attention to it.
The bike has front and rear suspension which make the bike very springy! The suspension effectively smoothes out any small bumps in it's path and works extremely well (it's not too stiff).
I think the display rod that stands the bike up could have been better designed, since at present if you fold it up to use the bike, the end sticks out and looks a bit odd. But that's relatively minor.
The bike is very steerable, and with a bit of practice and large enough hands you can 'ride' the bike using one hand, with the palm on the seat and your fingers on the handlebars.
I think the bike could have done with two tailpipes as an extra display feature.
Of course, like most Technic sets, the bike comes with stickers, but these are large and easy to apply to the plates.
The set can be assembled in about half-an-hour, but some aspects of the building can be a bit fiddly. Just a little hint when making the chain link: it's at the required length when you have one chain piece left (this is likely to be a spare). It's not the hardest Technic set to build, but you will need a little patience!
And finally, good news for any Hero Factory fans looking to buy this set for their characters to ride on, perhaps, this bike is just the right size for a medium-large (about Furno XL-size) figure to sit on!
Overall, an almost faultless Technic bike, whatever your reason for buying it, all at a reasonable price!

Attack of the Lions!
" This is a great Legends of Chima set full stop, not just out of the budget (under £20 or equivalent) sets. It's such a well thought-out design, and has a minifigure exclusive to the set to boot!
The minifigures: You get two minifigures in this set, the lion Lennox and the crocodile Crug. Lennox is a good minifigure with plenty of detailing to get excited about, but he's not my favourite Lion minifigure. Plus, he's available with golden shoulder/chest armour in Cragger's Command Ship, but this is the cheapest way to get Lennox, which is good. Crug is unique to this set at the moment, and unlike the other crocodiles, he's brown, which provides some variety. The detailing on Crug is amazing, the head patterns give Crug a metal jaw (not easy to see in the pictures), which is very cool and different from the other crocs. His weapon is a bit strange looking, though.
Now the vehicle. It's relatively large but the wheels are a bit small for the vehicle, but they work well enough. The lion head is an ingenious design, and it's mouth shoots out white discs, but the mouth also moves, so you can just about hold a minifigure in it. You can't fire the discs when the vehicle is holding a minifigure in it's mouth, though. The disc shooter works surprisingly well. You can store the discs in the loader, and when you want to shoot one, you pull a function on the back of the vehicle right back and let go. A rubber band pushes the function back and shoots a disc out, and it shoots surprisingly far. It also features two flick missiles, but I prefer the disc shooter function. The pipes on either side of the vehicle aren't just for decoration, they help stop the front claws on the wheels from freely rotating, a good idea so the claws don't stop the wheels from rotating.
There are stickers (about 7) in this set, a couple of them quite small, so that can be a frustration when assembling this set. Also, I wouldn't say that the big claw attack was a function as such, but rather a feature, because the claws don't actually move. But that's the only cons in this set.
Overall, a cool vehicle, good minifigures and you get quite a few pieces and great functions for your money. I'd recommend this set just for Crug, but I really highly recommend this set for the vehicle too. It's a great set for not too much money!

Battle for the CHI!
" This set works much like a Speedorz starter set, similar to the ones you got for the Ninjago spinners. Two characters, two Speedorz and three mini-games come with this set.
First, the minifigures. You get two, the wolf Wakz and the lion Longtooth. This is the cheapest way to obtain both these minifigures, but in this set both are missing their shoulder/chest armour that they usually get in the more expensive sets like the Royal Fighter or the Pack Tracker, which is a bit of a shame. However, they do have very cool heads and body patternings and the changeable eye positions. They each have two weapons, which are fairly basic.
The Speedorz are great bits of kit. You get a Lion and a Wolf Speedor, and they both have great sticker-free patternings to them so they faintly resemble a wolf's or lion's head. They work using a ripcord and work brilliantly, and they hold your minifigure in securely so they don't fall off when they crash into obstacles or each other.
The game objects are rather small compared to the sets with a single Speedor, but on the plus side you do get variety as this is three games in one. There's the spinning target, which is basically a nicely designed spinning top and spins very well, the simple 'knock down the fang cones' and a tower that you can knock down to reveal a ball of chi. You also get two small ramps to use for the chi tower game. Basically, when you buy this set, you're paying for an extra Speedor and minifigure and getting much simpler games.
Overall, as a way of getting the minifigures, a Wolf Speedor or completing your game card collection, or it's the only two-player Speedorz set you can afford, or you prefer variety over complexity, you can't go wrong with this set and I recommend this set on those reasons alone. But if you want to really compete with your friends/yourself, let me recommend the Ultimate Speedor Tournament, or perhaps Ring of Fire and Boulder Bowling together for just (about) 25% extra on the price of this set.

Bring on The Ring of Fire!
" This Chima Speedorz set is simple, yet such great fun to play and master. For your money you get Razar the Raven, a Raven Speedor, the Ring of Fire, some fire cones, 6 chi pieces and 5 cards.
First of all, Razar. He is an awesome Raven minifigure like the others, and this is the cheapest way to obtain him (he also appears in the chi raider and eagle interceptor sets). His Raven head has lovely detailed metallic patterns and you can change his mood by turning the head, like the other animal minifigures of the series. He has silver shoulder/chest armour which his raven wings are mounted to, and surprisingly, for the way they're assembled, they don't fall apart easily even when you're crashing his Speedor into walls and the floor! A nice touch is that one of Razar's hands is a hook, which makes him look different from the other Raven characters.
Razar attaches to the Speedor by removing the Speedor shell, placing Razar on the studs at the back and replacing the Speedor shell. This prevents Razar falling out of the Speedor when it crashes, a genius idea but can be a little frustrating when you're trying to pull the shell off. This Speedor, like all the others, works with a ripcord and works brilliantly. It easily launches off the provided ramp even though the ramp has studs on it.
The Ring of Fire is simple yet effective. The orange translucent fork joints and translucent red 'triangle' pieces work effectively to create the fire effect, and is mounted on a green base with some leaf elements to make it look more 'jungle-like'. It might look easy to get the Speedor through the Ring, but it's more difficult than it looks, but it will jump through with a bit of practice!
The great thing is, you can build this set quickly so you can start playing with it and challenging yourself quickly.
Overall, it's great fun, easy to build, not so easy to master. If you want to add another of the Chima Speedorz sets to this one, go for Boulder Bowling, you can make your Speedorz jump through the ring only to hit some boulders! I would, for playability and as a way of getting key minifigures cheaply, recommend this set, along with Boulder Bowling to add an extra challenge.

Small set, great design, unique minifigure
" If you're just starting out with the Chima sets, you'd go for this entry-level Razcal's Glider set, because it' s the cheapest of all the Chima sets. But it has it's share of very good plus points.
The minifigure: It's the Raven Razcal, and it's the ONLY set at the moment to include this beautifully detailed Raven Tribe member. He has a very cool detailed head, which features a double-printed head so you can change Razcal's mood. The torso and legs have awesome detailing and Razcal has shoulder/chest armour in silver which not only looks incredibly cool but also serves as a mounting point for the neat black wing pieces. The wings can make Razcal difficult to stand up without attaching it to a baseplate, but I suppose that doesn't matter, he probably spends more time flying like the other Ravens ;-)
Now the glider. I challenged myself by trying to build this as quickly as I could (no real reason), and managed to construct it in under 10 minutes. It's a simple build yet has an array of cool design features. The use of a large hollow claw as a raven beak is a great idea, as is the wing designs and the fact that the claws on the bottom move. And for a small set, it is surprisingly sizeable and chunky, like it should cost a bit more than it actually is. Proof of this is in the piece count. The only function is a flick missile activated by pushing a technic axle in the front of the glider. A good idea, since previously firing flick missiles effectively used to hurt my fingers! However, the missile points backwards and is attached to a chain, a bit of a strange idea at best. It's not incredibly difficult to change these, though, although it does involve some dismantling to change the missile direction.
Razcal's weapon is cool, and the fact that it can be incorporated into the model has good and bad points. Good, it provides somewhere to store the weapon while Razcal operates the glider, bad, you have to dismantle the weapon and the purple blades form part of the tail, so you have to decide between a weapon for Razcal or extra detailing on the glider. Why not both?
And, weirdly for a small set, it has two instruction manuals, but on the plus side, all the pieces are printed, so no stickers!
Overall, a neat little set with a unique minifigure to boot. Absolutely recommended to start/add to your Chima collection despite the flaws with the missiles and minifigure weapon.

A small vehicle with a BIG bite!
" At first, the Legends of Chima theme seemed like a nod to the Ninjago theme, but with crocodile, lion and bird characters instead of ninjas, dark lords and snakes. But I have fallen in love with this theme. Ignoring the Speedorz packs, this is the second cheapest Chima set in the series, and the first I purchased.
First the minifigures. You get the crocodile Crawley and the lion Leonidas in this set, both can be found in other Chima sets (this is the cheapest way to get Crawley, though). Crawley is a good minifigure with plenty of leg and torso detailing, as well as a double-printed head so you can change the look of his eyes (one shows cunning, one shows surprise). A nice crocodile minifigure, but not as awesome as, say, Cragger or Crominus. Leonidas also has plenty of body details and the changeable expression, and also comes with a chi weapon. The chi weapon is nicely designed, look closely and you can see lion head detailing, a nice little touch on the weapon.
Now the vehicle. It has a function that makes the claws rotate when you push the vehicle forward, and it worked better than I expected. It's fine when you push the vehicle forward, but when you push the vehicle backward the tracks tend to flip up and the tracks make contact with the huge rear wheels and make the vehicle hard to push along the ground. But that's a minor flaw, the vehicle is designed to just go forward as that's where the weapons are!
The styling of the crocodile head front is clever and rather cool, but perhaps it could have had a function that makes the mouth snap open and shut as you push it along the ground? At the moment you have to lever open the mouth manually, which is okay.
At the back, there's a chi compartment, which is basically a two-piece postbox element, and you can only fit one chi piece in it.
The cockpit opening is surprisingly robust and doesn't fall apart.
The piece count can suggest to you that it's a small vehicle, but it's actually fairly large for it's price, which is a good thing.
The only real con is that there's stickers in this set, but only about three, but can be generally frustrating to apply perfectly. And why is there two instruction booklets for such a small set?
Overall, a great budget Chima set to start your collection, and a great design to go with it.

Great Idea, Great Fun
" To me, it appears that the Legends of Chima theme picks up where Ninjago left off, and makes it even better. This is the second most expensive of the Speedorz sets in the range, but it's incredibly well thought out.
You get two minifigures, Cragger the crocodile and Laval the lion, both are very well detailed minifgures and you can change their eye positions by rotating their heads, but this feature makes it rather annoying to turn the heads in a general way (but this an incredibly minor issue). Neither minifigure is unique to this set. Both minifigures have their own respective chi weapons.
The Speedorz themselves are great. They have detailed shell patternings that don't require any stickers! They function by inserting a rip cord into them and pulling it out, and are relatively easy to work, effective and great fun to release and watch them go, and you don't need a smooth surface necessarily for them to work (they do function on carpet to some extent).
The lion's mouth 'gate/target' is very well thought out and works effectively. Hit the target and this makes a technic axle flip up and catapult a ball of chi into the air. The design of this lion head is also very good and certainly looks the part. However, the Speedorz do tend to get stuck in the gate if they're not going fast enough.
The chi tower has some cool parts attached to it, and you hit it by launching a Speedor off a ramp which has a tree/leaf piece on it. This tree piece often results in your Speedor not launching off the ramp properly, so it's best to remove it.
The game cards that come with the set also have some cool artwork on them, but the game works either with or without them.
My personal favourite pieces are the chi - I like their shape and the translucent blue colour.
Overall, this is a great set for continuing your Chima Speedorz collection and is highly recommended.
