A Great Addition For Any City
" You get more than you think with the Lego Farm.
Once again I'm pleased to see a product that can be taylored for both Boys and Girls with loads of potential for role-play. The design allows for plenty of room for fingers so a plus for playability. As for construction - which is of course half the fun, the kit starts small with the small lawn mower and builds up through the tractor to the cow-shed and barn.
All bags are numbered so you don't have to open everything and the instructions are clear and helpful.
The set has a great deal of activities to act as the focal point on its own or can be added to other sets to increase the fun.
an enjoyable 7/10. "

Lego has done it again...Brilliant.
" Extremely rugged construction and so solid, it's hard to believe it's made of small pieces of plastic and not metal.
Non-numbered bags in this one and there are 10 bags to start so recommend a pre-sort of the parts before getting stuck in! Instructions are clearer this time with Black and Dark Stone colours being a little more defined - thanks for listening to us Lego ;)
Steering mechanism is excelent and considerable thought has gone into how the power for the three actuators up front and the 4-wheel drive system link together through the central steering mechanism without the thing faling apart. An excelent bit of engineering Technic Team - put a big smile on my face.
The model is packed full of gears to allow the two differentials, engine, steering, gearbox, powershaft and both independent actuator systems to function. This makes construction a joy and in typical Technic style, these elements are broken down into smaller manageable sub-components.
The range of movement is excelent however the amount you have to turn the rear powershaft is somewhat excessive. As per most new large Technic sets, there is an option to add on the Power Functions Motor and accessories pack and this is no exception. I'd highly recommend that you do this as the speed of movement after motorisation is so much better increasing playability to the absolute maximum. To be honest, you only need the small motor, switch and battery box so if you have the Cherry Picker, or Off Road Truck, you can convert to Power Functions without having to break the bank again.
For those who may have other sets such as the excavator and the Hauler, this set is set around a similar scale and so this will of course enhance the playability of the model.
The set is extremely well detailed with engine, fan, cab, grills lights and handrails and cannot think of anything that they have missed, which seems to be a theme becomming more evident in the later releases of the Technic sets.
In summary, an outstanding set which i think should be on a lot of Christmas wish lists this year. 9/10 Well done Lego. "

So Versatile its unvelievable
" It took quite some time to get used to but with perseverence it will make sence the more you use it. Got it originally for rate control for the Emerald Night set which really brings the set to life but then moved over to the motorised Technic Bulldoser and some of my own creations. The variable speed control brings so much to your power functions that the on/off switches of older controllers simply cannot provide. To understand the full benefit you need to see the system in operation however simply imagine the motion of a train pulling out of a station, it is slow and gradual as it builds up momentum. Similarly its arrival at the platform is a slow delcine in momentum. That is exactly what this controller brings - control over the rate of animation.
The red buttons act as an emergency stop which you will use an awful lot as you get used to it .
Contrary to uncertainties in my earlier review for the future of the standard remote controller, this does not render the old unit obsolete. It does infact complement it rather well. Some items such as lights and in some installations, actuators, work better with a simple on/off function. The old controller and new speed remote controller clip together really well to form a console and together they are infact greater than the sum of their parts. Buy it and you may be frustrated to begin with, however, have patience and continue to experiment with its application, as the rewards will bring your Lego to life. Excellent work Lego 10/10 "

Very pleasing set.
" was put off buying this for a while due to the lure of the front-end loader and the crane truck however I'm very glad I picked it up.
Built the B-model first for a change. You don't get numbered bags (which of course would be set out for the prime model) but you do get two sets of instructions, one for each model - instead of relying on internet connectivity and half a printer full of ink! B-model is great. Simple tipping rear bogey and a sinple steering mechanism for the articulated joint.
Two days later I took the whole thing apart and built the snow grader. Some really well thought out build sequences but best of all are some of the components. You get four of the new rigid 'box frames' which form the backbone of the set. For the enthusiatic builder, these are going to be extremely useful for self-contained power trains etc. You also get a new brick (at least I've not seen it before) which is going to come in very useful for the manufacture of differential gearboxes!
Additional to that there are loads of panels and corner panels plus the new black tracks (which look so good straight out of the pack).
The Snow grader works really well. I was surprised at how realistic the movement is as well as the range of movement. Tracks work really well and the machine is more stable over uneven surfaces thanks to the six wheels on either side. For an un-powered (non-power functions) set I think that this set holds a great deal of the essence of technic lego with simple but effective movement and smooth results that will make all builders smile.
In summary, it is well worth the investment and will keep new builders entertained for hours and more experienced builders expanding their imagination with the new components. I'm planning to get another kit for the parts! Well done Lego 8/10. "

Good but...
" As the only tall masted ship in the pirate range I thought that it would be a good purchase. I was slightly dissapointed. As a set on its own is seems to have limits with playability when compared with other Lego sets of a similar price range. The vessel is nonetheless packed with features such as the pirate captains cabin, detailed gundeck, plank (to be 'walked') and bilge, however, the details lack functionality and seem to be more for decoration than activity such as the crossed swords on the stern.
There are some interesting features, the single cannon on the wheel deck makes aligning the ship for attack a thing of the past however I feel myself being drawn to what I believe is the main disadvantage of this themed range as it stands, the lack of another similar vessel with which battle can be drawn on the open ocean (or carpet depending where your imagination takes you)
Concentrating on the set there are lots of minifigures as well as a huge shark (was expecting the old casting of shark however you can get a minifigure in the mouth of this beast!), mouse (or possibly rat) and monkey with a cheeky banana. Set includes two additional cannon which sit on the main gun deck but with the rigging moving them around inside the hull can be awkward, as can firing them. Found that there is a lack of 'cannonballs' which for three cannon, I would have expected more than seven shot! Also found that loading the cannon can be rather awkward as the shot does not want to naturally slide down into the barrel and missfires can be a common occurance, much to the frustration in the heat of a 'battle'.
Construction is simple with two books and four numbered bags. The hull retains the same maindeck baseplates as the original pirate ships (dark-shark and soldiers cutter) however the bow and stern are now made up of five main 'bricks' in total making future adaptation easier and less limiting. The captains cabin is modular and removable to access the bilge.
I would have expected more features from the set, which if you do buy it, and I'm certainly not trying to stop you, you could add yourselves such as beds for the pirates in the bilge, barrels for 'powder', racks for the weapons, a locker in the bow (as there seems to be quite a lot of empty room here) and a couple of bricks that keep the deck cannon from rolling back when you try to fire them (otherwise an awkward two handed operation where there is only room for one!) All of these can be obtained through the pick-a brick part of the website and will make the set much better.
Overall, I would have expected more from the feature set in the theme but sadly disappointed by the emphasis on detail as opposed to playability. If you have other sets such as the soldiers fort then I can imagine (as I don't have it at time of review) that playability will be much better but as a set on it's own it is sadly limited. 6/10 "

New techniques for younger builders
" Got this for my Daughter (4) for a good school report. Opened the box and left her to it. She managed it without help from me which I feel is a credit to the clear instructions.
The set doesn't do a great deal but is fantastic for younger builders as it has some more challenging build sequences than the cheapest sets and introduces the double 2x1x1/3 with a central stud which gives younger builders the foundations for more complicated building techniques.
If your youngster is showing an interest in the samller Lego sets, then this would be money well spent. "

Better for driving, but lacking for building
" As many of the older builders will appreciate the last generation of baseplates did not stand well the test of time, especially when exposed to sunlight etc. The Dark Stone colour in the plates seem to retain their sharp colours better and I do believe they have changed the paint as is doesn't wear off!
The roadway is wider by an additional stud in either lane which helps as the modern vehicles seem to be either 5 or 7 studs wide over the wheels. This however this leaves less building space for inpromptu structures such as shops etc on the edges. This is offset by the newer 16x32 stud baseplates (see pick-a-brick / baseplates) however its another outlay. This issue is felt most in the cross roads plate as there is little to utilise for building on the corners.
I find that setting the plates out on a hard surface such as floorboards helps with building as carpet seems to promote too much flexibility in the baseplate to get a rigid building structure - by no means a fault with the product, just a tip. If you have carpet, try and get hold of a peice of hardboard or plywood to put under yout baseplates as you'll find this helps immensely with retaining rididity and keeping the boards together.
Enjoy. "

Although a necessary component for a structured Lego layout such as a town or city I would prefer if they were marketed as single items as opposed to a 'twin pack' as generally I find that I buy a 'pair' in order to get the one such as the straight or the bend which I find a little frustrating, If Lego feel they should sell two in a pack, please just sell two bends, or two straights etc as this way I would buy more. But don't let this put you off, you'll still get plenty out of them. "

A Great introduction
" I simply love these small 'impulse' sets. They make a fantastic little reward and really promote creative play in younger builders.
The set is simple to build which makes it a good set for younger builders to get to grips with the instructions as well as the components. Some fiddly parts that smaller fingers struggled with such as getting the tyres in the rims and centring the swivel but makes a great lesson in patience. Not a great deal to do as a set in its own right but add in 5620 and you have a hour or so of great fun.
Please Lego, do more of these small sets. "
