A Really Good Set
" Another very good example of a well thought out set.
Lots of features with this set. An extremely solid finished product. Was expecting it to be smaller than the finished item from the pictures on the website. The speed of operation is extremely realistic and the steering works well with no slack in it. Doors open and you can even convert it to right-hand drive! Model is well scaled with the excavator (8294) and Hauler (8264).
Once finished the set not only performs well but looks like the real thing and the power functions system that comes with the set, complements it well. "

Not quite Technic, but good fun
" Of the 160 ish bricks about 50 make up the tracks but still an enjoyable build. Took it to pieces and my 4 year old daughter didn't struggle with it - indeed the first thing she did was try and sit one of her lego construction figures in the top! A good fun model but would suggest opening a new 'Technic' Category for these smaller models aimed at younger kids to get them interested earlier. "

Buy This Set First!
" Brilliant. Realy realistic and so powerful.
For less than £40 you get a set that you won't get tired of. The building of the model can be a little fiddly with the two actuators but the finished product is amazing.
Bought the Hauler first (8264) which complements this set really well as they are scaled equally. Found that the speed of the model was slow so I added the Power Functions Motor Set (8293) and would strongly recommend that your do the same as it adds so much more to the model.
First time I've come across the linear gear shift selector (sorry if it's been around for years but the set I bought before the hauler was in 1989). Was really impressed with the design - so much so that I've got the Cherry picker in the cupboard which I'm looking forward to building this weekend. "

 LEGO Vehicles - Hauler
LEGO Vehicles - Hauler
This heavy-duty articulated hauler has it all - and you can build it! With a real motorized LEGO Power Functions tipping trailer bed, working articulated steering, independent rear suspension, an opening engine cover and even more realistic functions and details, it can go anywhere and haul anything, no matter the obstacles or challenge. Download instructions for rebuilding into a tough flatbed truck from http://technic.lego.com . Spend hours discovering and activating all the gears, connectors and motorized LEGO Power Functions in this 2 in 1 model! Rebuilds into Flatbed Truck! Includes Power Functions motor and battery box! Requires 6 AA batteries; Not included. Hauler measures over 16" (40cm) long

Not bad, but could do better.
" First Lego product I've bought since 1989 and so was familiar with the generalities of Technic Lego. Was drawn in by the Power Functions products but to be honest wasn't too impressed with this model. It seems to lack the Technic functions I valued as a child, for example, there is only one gear wheel. The Power functions system however is very impressive although having since bought other Technic Power Function sets, would have preferrred to see some form of protection between the motor and linear actuator as it makes a terrible sound should the actuator reach its limit - i hope I've not damaged it.
The model itself contains a great deal of detail and does lend itself to the real thing having spent a lot of time around Volvo A25s and CAT haulers. The rear suspension works well and I can see the flat panels that make up the rear trailer coming in very useful for other models.
The scale of the model complements the Excavator (8294) if you are intending to expand your Lego collection.
If it's going to be your First Lego Technic set, I would recommend that you try somthing else before buying this one.
In summary, if you are intending to spend £50 on Technic Lego, go for the Excavator (8294) and put the £10 you've saved towards a Power Functions Motor Set (8293) for it. "

Outstanding Value For Money
" Bought this in February 09 and was extremely impressed with the amount you get for less than £100. The model is crammed with Power Functions (over £60 worth if you were to buy it seperately) equipment although to increase reality, would strongly suggest purchasing a second remote controller for the remaining functions so as you don't have to stop to lower the blade or ripper! The model is huge and very tough which works well on carpet as well as floorboards - and for those of you who have children of your own, makes a very useful tool for tidying bedrooms!
If you are going to think of spending £100 on Technic Lego - buy this. "
