"This has to be my favourite of the three current Star Wars Helmets. I did worry that he would look a little smeary but the bricks didn't seem to hold my fingerprints too much from clicking him together. The tubing I thought would be two plastic sections that slid on to a flexible rod but NO - you do build the tubing when made me happier than it should have. Took a bit of tweaking when they were clicked in to place to make them space properly around the curve but worth the fiddle.
There is a tiny sticker sheet and worth using them to complete the overall look.
The build technique is very similar to Brick Headz and the designers have used bright bricks on the base structure so you can easily make sure you are working on the correct "face" of the 360 model. Adding the external "plates" to the base is surprisingly simple and I had no pop off issues.
The finished piece is about 1/3 life size so quite a substantial piece for your display. To be honest he really stands out on the shelf display and does draw your eye - even when displayed next to the other 2 released at the moment.
"Sticker warning! Yes, there are a stickers on this kit, mainly for the detailing on the side fins of the helmet. Nothing too onerous but I loathe adding stickers. I did consider leaving them off but decided to woman up and just go for it. Glad I did as they do enhance the finish.
I didn't realise when I built it that I had the faceplate one stud too low so he looks a little off in my poor photos. As soon as I took him upstairs to add to my display I realised so cue sitting on the bed and taking him apart and fixing my mistake.
Finishes out at around 1/3 life size so a substantial display piece that looks really great on my shelving. Very happy with the build techniques used, especially the use of bright bricks to help you when placing bits together and for making sure you are on the right face.
"The pack art really does not do this helmet justice at all. To be fair, neither do my photos but I suck at lighting etc.. This looks really incredible built and I was pleasantly surprised at the overall size of it, approximately 1/3 of life size.
The build itself reminded me quite a bit of the techniques used in the Brick Headz kits, which is not a bad thing. I was dreading adding the raised sections to form the outer layer to the base but it all went smoothly with no pop offs when pressing down to connect and no need to glue to hold things in place.
I really liked that the instructions use strange coloured bricks to help you figure out the spatials - particularly for slotting the external "plates" in to place. Makes it really simple to figure out where everything sits.
"I am new to the whole Brick Headz arena but having completed the freebie with the Diagon Alley set I was eager to get more of them. These could definitely become an obsession as I have yet to be disappointed with them.
This twin pack really does NOT disappoint. Like all Brick Headz the build is fun and really opens your eyes about different techniques you can employ to get the required finish. Even better they look wonderful on display and are small enough to move around and fill shelf gaps rather than taking up lots of room.
I thought that The Child would be my favourite of the pack but no, Mandalorian really looks the business and is definitely the highlight of the kit. True to both the character and the overall aesthetic of the Brick Headz range.
"Not one of my favourite kits and I only bought this because I wanted the stingray creature that is included. Normally with the 3 in 1 sets I end up buying more than one so I can do the additional builds but with this one I already have a number of submarines and the ancillary builds just didn't interest me. So, just bought the one and figured the robot will look okay next to my Exploration Base.
He not only looks okay he actually looks pretty cool. One of those unusual occassions where the box art actually makes the figure look worse than it actually builds to. I really love my little robot guy and the fact his "claw" works to grasp things is a nice bonus. The stingray that I bought the set for is everything I hoped it would be and holds up well against my other deep sea creatures.
The robot is a fun build and looks well on the shelf with the other underwater items. Definitely a great robot for playing as he is really articulated well.
"I do have a love/hate relationship with this kit. I understand that one of the big selling points of this ship is the fact that it floats. However, this means that the base comes in to complete moulded pieces which allows for the lightness and air gaps needed for it to actually function on water. Whilst I appluad this from a playability point of view, from a building point of view it felt like I was cheating somehow. That said, all the little details and extra bits and bobs really elevate this set - I really loved the shipwreck piece.
The ship itself has working cranes and raising and lowering the shark cage is more fun that a 50 year old should admit to having. Throw in a detailed ships bridge and crew quarters and there are lots of options for little fingers to play with this unit on dry land or the bathtub.
Not only do you get standard mini figures with this set - including some divers - but you get some pre-moulded sea creatures. The shark is nice but my favourite is the stingray.
The build was fun but I would love to see a non-floating version where I can build from the hull up.
"First off, this little set really reminded me of the James Cameron Film The Abyss and as it is one of my all time favourite films the chance to build my own deep sea base was a no brainer.
Each of the three habitat pods seperates off from the base so you could, theoretically, use them as vehicles or simply place them how and where you want. Personally I've kept mine on the base as I liek the cohesive look. Works well for display with the included research sub and the other sub kits in the City range.
Loved the little diving mini figures, even if the fins mean they don't stand on a stud base but they do sit so mine are being lazy and sitting down on the display.
Fun build and some interesting techniques and large moulded pieces that give a clean finish.
"I bought this to complete the Hidden Side current cycle even though I don't really tend to go for smaller kits this one is impressive. It is absolutely packed with little details and playability and is probably my favourite Hidden Side build so far - even better than the Haunted Castle, who knew?
I didn't build this set, my son did. He had a lot of fun building it and kept asking me to look at the section he'd just done because of all the little bits and bobs that are crammed in to it. Quite a few mini figures with the set that makes for a lot of fun. Scaling is really good too so it looks great.
Have to admit this one went straight to the front of the shelf because it makes me smile A LOT.
"The box art is what drew me to this kit, the fact it had such a good price point for what looked like a really stylish kit was just a bonus. Unfortunately, I didn't have any other underwater kits so this one led to a whole world of expenditure.
Strangely once built my favourite bit isn't the submarine itself but rather the little cave with the hidden Angler Fish. Yes, the glow in the dark works but you need to let him get a bit of light once you take him out of the box to charge him up. The mechanism to move him is a super simple strut but it is effective and does what you need it to.
The included mini figures easily fit in the submarine so you can really get some fun play with this one. Admittedly mine just sits of the shelf as a dust trap with all the other underwater sets. The submarine does look good built and I love the fact the engines all have moveable turbines for added manoeuverability. Throw in some functional grab hooks and you can really explore what the deep sea has to offer.
"This is perfect for little hands that are ready to transition from the bulkier Duplo pieces. Not too involved to build but introduces some of the basic techniques. LOTS of play value from the created kit as well.
For me this is worth it for the Hammerhead Shark alone, I haven't seen that moulded figure in any of the current Ocean Exploration kits so that made this one a no brainer. Even better, I found I really liked this one man sub when it was finished and it works well with the other underwater kits I have.
