Underwater Spook
" Yet another of the Hidden Side series that was built by The Boy.
This set comes with quite a few little bits and pieces that you can link together to form one scene and that is what we have done on our display. We haven't downloaded the app yet so I can't verify how well it works with this set or how multiple sets work with it in conjunction with each other. Sorry!
Like all the Hidden Side kits it comes with spooky options for the included minifigures but for some reason The Boy doesn't seem to use them - fool. The colours are a good balance of darks and brights and the sub itself really does pop against a darker background.
Not the biggest of builds but I am reliabily informed that it was fun and that he is pleased with how it all links together. "

Boo To School
" This is my first build from the Hidden Side kits that we own. The Boy has built most of them because we agreed to share but I bagsied this one for myself - I love building the vehicles so much and was intrigued as to how this one would go together compared to other buses I have made.
This was surprisingly fun to build. I particularly like that some of the figures give you the option to do them as regular minifigures or take the spookier option. The colour of the spooky ones is a sort of neon lime green that I think is really effective. As you can see from the photographic evidence I chose to use 2 of the spooky options for this build and then made them attack the bus. Well, Lego does mean "Play Well" after all and there should be no age limit on play.
The Command Module slides neatly in to the rear of the bus to make a complete vehicle or you can pull it out for playability. Not a lot of room inside the bus and you can't really play inside it as is, you do need to strip it down. Decent sized build and certainly looks like the kind of yellow school bus you see in movies.
I really need to download the App and try it out but still haven't got around to it. We have several of these kits built already so it seems a sensible option but haven't gone there yet. For now, these are just display items.

Fully Functional
" I was on the fence about this build and then I checked the vehicle dimensions of the blue car that comes with the set and it matched the Corvette ZR1 (42093). So, I decided I was going to purchase this kit to use as a display option as well as being a model in its own right.
First thing first this thing is HUGE when built. The size of the included car should have been a clue I know but the finished size meant I had to find a new location for it as no way would it fit in the space I had earmarked for it. How big is it you ask. Well on the bottom deck I have the blue car and the ZR1 and on the top deck it houses the London Bus (10258) and the VW Camper Van (10220). Yes it easily takes the weight of these larger builds and they do fit properly although they do not lock in place.
Everything on this unit works and you can line the ramps up to get vehicles on and off both the trailer and the main truck. From what little I know of Car Transporters (which you could write on the back of a postage stamp and have room left over) the functionality seems to be accurate. Some new techniques were used in this build and made it hold my interest despite the huge amount of pieces you are dealing with. Although the kit comes with numbered bags it is just portioned up in to 3 sections - the car, the main truck and then the trailer. So expect lots of sorting before you can start.
Even worse there are a LOT of stickers in this kit. None of them were particularly onerous to site and they do add to the look, especially on the truck cab.
I spread the build over 3 days as real life intervened but I really enjoyed it the challenge. Yes, there is some repetitive work going on in this set but the designers have changed things up here and there with a different technique to get to the same end point. Definitely one of my favourites from a build point of view.

Mark, Set, GO
" This is my first large Technic build and having seen this built up in a local store I just couldn't wait to create my own version. It is surprisingly large when completed and even though I had seen one built it still shocked me when I saw the completed size.
STICKER WARNING! This kit is sticker heavy. Yes, they do enhance the look of the vehicle in general but some of them I just could not get right. The way the word Porsche is spread over the rear spoiler just looks a mess and I really did my best with it. This is such a visible piece on the completed vehicle and so torturous to even approximate how it should look I feel it should have been preprinted. Whilst I'm on a moan I will also mention I got just over 3 Hours in to the build and found I was missing a 1 x 15 strut piece. I even double checked the build up to that point and I had not used a wrong part so it was definitely missing (even after thorough bag, box and floor checks). Thank goodness for stash as I couldn't imagine having to wait for a replacement part after spending so long building.
Now on to the good stuff. I LOVED THIS BUILD. Honestly, I just kept going and going until it was finished and I never felt jaded or tired whilst constructing the vehicle. I even had to be forced to stop to eat. Honestly this was really absorbing and watching the vehicle emerge from a bunch of random looking connectors and struts was incredible and made me immeasurably happy.
If you are on the fence about getting a larger Technic kit I cannot recommend this vehicle highly enough. If anything it was actually easier than the smaller sets I've built. The only thing I would say is make sure you have a large stable building surface as this thing really takes up some space. Also, there are NO numbered bags so you will need to open everything up and wrangling nearly 1600 pieces can be a challenge in itself.

" Sadly, my favourite part of this kit is actually the lighting rig. I spent a good 20 minutes playing with it when it was built. The functionality of it is great and was a nice touch to this kit and could easily be used with any race car sets.
The look of the cars is okay, they remind me a little bit of the 1970s blockier Lego figures. However, you have the option to make the black car supercharged and have the cooler unit poking out of the bonnet. This is the option I went with as I prefer it over the flat bonnet look.
Both cars sit one minifigure and you get a third one in the kit that acts as the race starter. Again you get a spanner for one of the figures to hold which also doubles as a tyre remover. Yes, I do overly love that feature.
Overall this is a great looking set when built and the cars are definitely sturdy enough to play with (I know, the husband and I have both had a little tabletop play with them). "

Race Time
" This is one of those sets that I just had to buy twice because both builds looked so good on the pack art. To be honest, I hadn't even noticed that it stated "pull back action" when I bought them so that was a nice little bonus for me when they were built. Yes, the husband and I have held races on the dining table with both vehicles and accompanying vocal effects.
Fairly standard Technic builds using familiar techniques but producing two very different looks. My favourite is the Race Car, just because of the end product look. I also liked that the kit comes with a couple of different starting line markers, just adds to the overall look when built.
Nicely sized finished vehicles that look good on display as well as being very playable. Good kit to begin with if you have not previously tried Technic builds. Gives you a bit of a primer to see if this style works for you.

Classic Styling
" For me this is the classic Porsche shape and getting this kit was a no-brainer. Just something about those headlights that does it for me.
The build itself was interesting and used some techniques I had not come across with other car builds I've done. Admittedly, it could just be I haven't been paying attention properly before. I really enjoyed building this and liked that the internal parts are anything other than white so figuring out where you are on the "map" was relatively simple.
Seats just one minifigure which comes in the kit. I do like that the spanner that come for your minifigure makes a handy tool for removing the wheels. Not just decorative but functional - especially as my minifigures always sit inside my cars for display.

The Master
" I was really excited to build this figure and I wasn't sure how the outline would be achieved. Turns out it is a base frame made from Technic pieces that everything then clips on to. Very similar in technique to how the Brick Headz are assembled in some ways. I did expect to have pop off issues when assembling but fortunately this did not happen and it all went together smoothly.
Well, I say I had no issues with the build. I did - Bag 5 cost me about 40 minutes as I managed to get my spacing wrong and had to deconstruct and start from scratch. I am pretty sure it would have been clearer on the Instructions Plus online but I prefer the paper booklets and on one little section the perspective makes it hard to tell exactly where two plates fit together. That is MY excuse and I am sticking to it (it's nothing to do with being hungry and deferring eating to build).
Once completed Yoda really does dominate the display area. My favourite bit is the hood on the rear of his costume. The way it is sculpted out of square bricks is impressive. Also, the pack art makes his eyes look extremely weird. In real life he looks so much better facially than the pack art would have you believe.

" I think my favourite thing about this item is the microfigure of D-0 on the information plaque. I don't know why it just makes me smirk every time I see it. That's not to say I don't like the finished model because I was surprised by how detailed he is and how good he looks on my display but the microfigure is where this set is at for me.
The build is a good range of techniques. I particularly liked the build for the wheel that D-0 uses to get around. From the pack pictures I expected this to be one pre-moulded piece but no, you build it from scratch and then wrap it around and attach it to the display base. Easy to do and it all went together smoothly (apart from the closures at the end of the rods which took some "easing") which surprised me, when I first saw the technique for the wheel I was expecting to have a hard time. Glad I was wrong!
Only 1 sticker in the kit but it is the information for the plaque so you really need to get it right first time. Because it is such a large sticker I found it quite easy to place (for once).

" I bought this for The Boy and he had a blast building the three different robots.
The downside for me was that all the build instructions are through the App rather than being a paper booklet included in the package. We half expected this to be the case but it was still a bit of a blow as chances are your device will low battery you whilst building - law of averages states so!
As you can see from the rather dim photograph you can display all 3 robots at the same time. However, ther eis only one power pack included in the box so you cannnot operate all threee together. Also, R2D2 will not stand up without the power block inserted, Gonk and the Mouse both stand independantly so not a big problem if they are going to spend more time being dust collection points on your shelf than actually running.
I haven't used the App personally but The Boy reports it is easy to select the functions you want your robot to perform. Even better they do operate smoothly and in ways you expect from seeing the robots in the films. I will hold my hand up and admit that the R2D2 one made me laugh like a drain as you can make him do his "agitated" squawk and spin. The Mouse is a nippy little beast - which I didn't expect even though when you see them on the Death Star in A New Hope they zoom around. Gonk makes a really odd noise when he moves which also tickled my funny bone.
For us they were well worth purchasing even though they will spend 99% of their time in the display shelving. "
