" The power up pack doesn't have the ID tag brick so I wasn't sure how Mario himself was going to register he had a special suit on. Turns out it is through the pins on the Mario figure and where they slot in to the suit tells the figure which suit he has on.
Nice addition to a course but mean you will run out of time as you can't get Mario out of his standard suit in to the special suit and complete even the shortest course in 1 minute.
Build instructions are on the app rather than in the box.

It's-A-Me
" I'm old enough to have been playing Mario since the NES first came out and this really does emulate Super Mario Bros 1 and 3 perfectly. Fun to build (although the boy built this particular section of the course) and looks great when finished. Partly because of the colours chosen but also because you can genuinely mix and match all the pieces in to any order you like. This gets even better when you have multiple series kits although the 1 minute timer does mean you have no hope of completing a large course. I thought it would be nice if when you click Start on the app it asks you which kits you have your course built from and it adjusts the timer to suit.
Mario himself is really nicely rendered and the voice is accurate to the game Mario. Fortunately you can turn the voice off as it did begin to grate after a bit of play.
The kit not only has the unique Mario figure but it also has the start pipe and the end flag. Keep these separate if you have multiple kits to make building courses easier.
The big downside for me was that you have no build instructions in the kit it all has to be downloaded through the app. Make sure your device has full battery before you start, especially if you are building multiple sets in the series at the same time or else you can get in the situation I was in where 2 bags from the end my battery died. I would definitely have preferred to have a full instruction book with the kit.
I was tempted to mark this down because of my dissatisfaction with the build instruction situation but, you know what, it is such a fun kit to build and play I really couldn't bring myself to do it.

Pivot!
" Two of my favourite features of this kit are the arc lights that remind you it is based on a real set and then the fact that there are so many pre-printed pieces instead of stickers. There are a few stickers (we don't talk about the mess I made of the Reserved one) but very few and this made for a much more pleasant building experience.
I am sort of a F.R.I.E.N.D.S fan and have probably seen each episode several times and do regularly quote it. It hasn't worn particularly well but only because the world has moved on so much since the series started and it does feel really alien for there to be no mobile phones or social media. Still enjoy it though and when I saw this kit I thought it looked fun but it was not at the top of my "I Want" list.
I am so glad I got it, this is a really detailed build. Most of the floor is built rather than being a traditional base plate and I loved the way the rugs are built and then slotted in, give a great finish and was a new building technique for me. Lots of details particularly around the serving counter and we even get a Gunther minifigure to serve the all important coffee and you can even build the espresso machine.
The minifigures are easily recognisable as the particular character they represent which pleased me. Hard to get all 7 in the set once it's built but I managed after a bit of fiddling. Currently it is a temporary shelf which is a bit dark so you can't see it properly but when I get my new shelves it will look great.
Also, quick shout out to the included booklet. Little biographies on each of characters and some information on the design team and the lucky Lego Fan who's idea it was. Clear building instructions and I only had to do a bit of deconstruction a couple of times because I hadn't counted spaces properly.
Lots of play value with this one but even better as a decoration.

Routemaster
" I really like vehicle models and as I work in a transport adjacent industry and have done for a number of years in different areas this kit seemed like a logical fit. It is a classic looking double decker bus that brings to mind the old Routemaster buses that not only ran in London but were prevalent in Manchester in the late 1980s that I used to get to and from Uni every day.
First off, lets talk about the punny destinations - they gave the other half an I a great deal of pleasure and amusement. Brickston, Yellow Brick Road, Brickadilly Circus and Twobytwo Square.
There are quite a lot of stickers in this kit and they are my nemesis. The ones for the number plates and destinations weren't too bad but I really struggled with the ones for the advertising signage on the sides. Fortunately, I can report they peel off and restick easily and of the 6 on the side signage I think I had to remount 5.
There is some repetitive building - all those seats! However, it didn't get boring which I thought making 14 seats for the top deck after making around 12 for the bottom deck would have tipped me over the edge but I still enjoyed it. Helped that it became almost like piece work and I was watching a Lego Expo video and discussing it with the other half as I assembled them.
Great build that is really a display piece but the wheels work and there is no reason why the mini figures wouldn't fit that you may have in your stash if you wanted to play with it. I'm happy shoving this on a display shelf so I can look at it and grin.

" My second venture in to the world of Lego Technics and this was a fun build. Probably because I have a tiny bit of experience under my belt now and found the cogs and gears less daunting. It also helps that this is a small kit so there isn't too much gearing to put together. What there is is purely for the propellers so not too onerous. The most awkward bit was attaching the string for the stretcher winch; my sausage fingers did struggle and the ends of the string are a bit dangly as I couldn't get a neat little knot but they don't show with the model on display.
Some nicely moulded pieces are included that make for a good looking model when it is completed. As with all the Technics kits there are no mini figures included but I have tried it with one of my Harry Potter figures and they do fit both in the front portion of the helicopter and on the stretcher. So, if bought for play then raid your stash and you can create whatever scenarios you can dream up. Me, I'll leave it on my vehicle shelf to gloat over.

Yabba Dabba Doo
" I've had my eye on this kit for a couple of weeks and when purchasing some other kits to complete a theme I decided to just grab it. I'm really glad that I did because it looks great built - although it did lead to constant singing of the theme song (fortunately only in my head as I couldn't carry a tune in a bucket).
You start with building Fred's car and it has the rack of ribs from the opening credits which amused me no end. Although not geared it does work as a pushalong so has genuine play value. The house itself is really detailed and the roof is a triumph of engineering and really reflects the cartoon house. This is definitely based around the cartoons and not the live action film (thank goodness) and was a real nostalgia trip for me. Some nice little touches with the bowling set and the TV.
Fun build that looks great on display.

Van Life
" This very nearly went back in the box when I opened it and found out it wasn't in numbered bags. But, I had been really looking forward to this build so I knuckled down and spent 90 minutes sorting all the pieces out. May seem like a long time but it is SO worth it when it comes to the build as everything is at your fingertips.
The build itself is moderately challenging and you do need to concentrate. Perfect for a wet afternoon and I did thoroughly enjoy the build. The little details inside the van are great and not expected as I purchased this by the external look of the camper van and didn't realise it was so highly detailed.
Despite being part of the Creator Expert series there is a lot of play value with the kit. It doesn't come with any mini figures but standard ones definitely fit inside - Harry and Ron went on a little holiday in mine ;)
Really good value for money build.

Grawp
" Having completed the larger kits I have started getting some of the smaller ones, not really keen on a small build as they are just over far too quickly. The other half bought me this one and it looks good built but Grawp himself is rather disappointing. He looks fine from the front but the back is just the rear of the bricks (sorry I didn't get a photo - I didn't think of it until now) and spoils the illusion somewhat.
Some nice little details, especially on the tree that you can open up to reveal a secret compartment. It is really the figures that make this - two centaurs is a major plus and finally a good Dolores Umbridge.
Grawp himself is well balanced and I didn't have any issues getting him to stand up which is a plus point. Some nice little details including the bicycle handlebars that Grawp bonds with Hermione over.
