That's not a small moon...
" The Death Star! Some of the most iconic Star Wars scenes happened aboard the Death Star and the Death Star II. The biggest and most powerful battle station in the Imperial Fleet capable of destroying planets. It was featured in Star Wars: Episode IV A new Hope, where it destroyed Alderaan and got destroyed by Luke Skywalker. In Return of the Jedi the most dramatic scenes were played out by Luke, Darth Vader and Emperor Palpatine. This Lego set captures the Death Star, it's rooms, and it's many scenes beyond imagination!
Firstly this set is huge and I mean huge! It's about a 9kg box, which is an interesting fact. Inside this box are four boxes containing the numbered bags with all the pieces and an A3 ring bound instruction manual. This near 4,000 piece behemoth is both a wonderful model to display and has play features galore!
The first stage is to build all the minifigures. There are 24 minifigures, which is the largest amount to be released with a Lego set to date. You get Luke Skywalker in his Jedi Knight outfit with green lightsaber, in an exclusive stormtrooper outfit, and in his Tatooine clothes. Han Solo is in his usual attire and as an exclusive stormtrooper too. Leia comes in her white dress with double bun hair. The comical duo of C-3PO and R2-D2 are included, along with Chewbacca, and Obi Wan Kenobi complete with cape and lightsaber. All the villains are included - Grand Moff Tarkin, Emperor Palpatine (with Dark Side Lightning), Darth Vader (with red lightsaber), two Stormtroopers, two Red Royal Guards, and then the rest are droids.
The bottom most layer of the Death Star doesn't have any rooms, but is visually interesting due to some crates and containers, and is vital as it gives support for the rest of the layers.
The second layer is where things start to get interesting. There are five rooms on this layer. The trash compacter complete with monster and collapsing walls to recreate the same scene from A New Hope. One of the power units where Obi Wan turns it off to help their escape. Then there's the room with the void that Luke and Leia swing across from A New Hope, complete with swinging rope. The room with the shooter in is not from a scene I can remember but shoots really far and is a fun feature. Finally on this floor is the loading bay complete with crane.
The third layer is the largest layer with four rooms each relating to key scenes from the films. There's the TIE Fighter hangar which is the same hangar that the Millennium Falcon docks in from A New Hope. Also from A New Hope is the control room for the super power laser. The Detention Block is very movie accurate, complete with computers, lights, interrogation droid, and working cell door, along with a feature to lift up a piece to drop the minifigures down into the trash compacter, just as in A New Hope.
The best room on this layer though is the Emperor's Throne Room where you can reenact the famous battle between Luke and his father, Darth Vader from Return of the Jedi. This again is extremely movie accurate, and even has a place for Vader to throw the Emperor to his doom and save his son.
The top layer then has the Conference Room from A New Hope, where all the baddies sit and talk about destroying planets and where Darth Vader tried choking someone with the Force (I find your lack of faith disturbing) . The next room contains a lego brick with stickers on both sides to create a monitor, which you can alter to either show Alderaan before it was destroyed or the countdown to when the Death Star was going to be in range of the Rebel base, again both scenes from A New Hope. There's a droid maintenance room, which although not featured in the films, was mentioned, and finally two laser towers. These were featured in A New Hope, and were being used against the Rebel attack just before the Death Star was destroyed.
If you can name a scene on the Death Star or the Death Star II, chance is you can reenact it through Lego in this set.
This Lego set is completely awesome, and is probably one of the greatest Lego sets ever. It happens to be the 4th biggest Lego there is to date! The fact that Lego have managed to create something spherical out of Lego bricks is just mind-blowing! This set makes a great display piece or something to play with, and is a must have for either Lego fans or Star Wars fans, or both! However be warned this build is not for the faint of heart, it's going to take a long time, a lot of patience and careful reading of the instructions, as after all Darth Vader is in the top corner of every page, and nobody wants to displease a Sith Lord! Scooby Doo! It's a Haunted Mansion!
" Creepy, haunted buildings appear in almost every episode of Scooby Doo. This Lego set isn't based on one particular haunted mansion from an episode of Scooby Doo and I think that might be it's problem.
This set is good but it isn't great. At it's heart Lego is a toy, and this set doesn't provide enough play features considering it's size and price. At a maximum you get four play features. A swinging mace, a carnivorous plant, a hidden key, and a clock tower that turns around to reveal a vampire. I personally believe Lego could have done better than that.
The set itself looks great and makes a nice display piece. The Haunted Mansion looks suitably ominous with the use of clever stickers, colours, and build techniques. There are shattered windows, boarded up windows, and in some places it looks like the mansion is falling down. The use of black, purple, grey and dark brown help it to look even creepier.
There's the greenhouse with the carnivorous plant and two spooky pumpkins. The main tower has a swinging mace, a place to hide a key, and a clock that turns around to reveal a vampire. The building on the right has a kitchen which looks suitably unused and a second floor with a safe that has 'gold' bars in it.
Exclusive to this set is the minifigure of Velma. She looks great and the new hairpiece matches with the original character. You also get Daphne, Shaggy, and Scooby. These are not exclusive to this set, however they all look great. The motorbike with sidecar is a nice feature.
The villains are just what you would expect to find in a haunted mansion. A spooky vampire, the Black Knight, and a ghost that has a glow in the dark ability. All have dual sided heads to reveal the crook inside the costume.
The build is relatively straightforward and nothing is particularly hard to build nor are there many interesting techniques.
This set isn't worth the price, but it's the only way to get Velma, and it does look good as a display piece. This is a good set but it could have been better. "

Scooby Look Out! There's a Mummy!
" You can't have a Scooby Doo line of sets without a mummy mystery. One of the Scooby Doo animated films was all about the gang solving a mummy mystery in Egypt.
This set albeit small packs more than a few surprises. Literally as when you pull the hamburger chain at the back, the sarcophagus lifts up revealing the mummy inside! There's also a secret compartment at the base of the model, that when opened, reveal gems inside. Two really nice play features.
This model also makes a nice display feature. It's been designed well and has a nice amount of detail and the gold and sand coloured bricks are unusual colours.
The figures are nice. Scooby and Shaggy are both excellent, but the real star is the mummy. This minifigure has a dual sided face - one side has a creepy look, whilst the other proves it's a costume and shows the face of the crook.
This is a well thought out set, and is good for playing with or as a small display feature. "

The Headless Horseman!
" Scooby Doo is just about as awesome as Lego. This set is very well built and is sturdy, yet looks good. The lime green and azure colouring make it very eye-catching and the colours match with the Mystery Machine and the rest of the Scooby Doo Lego sets.
The design is fabulous. A retro biplane with Mystery Machine colouring and Scooby as the pilot. Scooby Doo is exclusive to this set, as he is sitting down and wearing aviator goggles (who said a dog couldn't fly?). Shaggy isn't exclusive but is a nice minifigure who looks just like the original character. The Headless Horseman is a wonderful minifigure with a spooky pumpkin head. Take the disguise off and you reveal the crook. The horse too is great and stands well when rearing.
This set is fun and great for play. The plane is sturdy and will hold up if 'flown' around the room. The price isn't perfect but for an exclusive Scooby and Headless Horseman it isn't bad. "

Scooby Doo! Where Are you?
" Scooby Doo is one of the greatest TV shows ever made. It's sweet, funny and harmless with strong characters who always solve mysteries. So when I heard that Lego were doing Scooby Doo sets I was hoping that they were going to be awesome.
The Mystery Machine is awesome! It's an iconic vehicle driven by Fred and takes the gang everywhere. The Lego designers should be proud at how well they have managed to capture it in brick form.
The shape is very accurate as is the colouring, and the van is packed with detail and play features. Just make sure that you take your time with the stickers and line them up correctly. The van's roof can be removed and this lets the sides swing out to reveal the kitchenette in the van complete with sandwich. There's also a torch, camera, magnifying glass, and a newspaper article, so it's perfect if you want to play and solve the mystery.
Scooby Doo is one of the cutest minifigures ever and remains true to his character. Shaggy has a dual sided face with either a scared expression or a big smile, and his hair has been specifically moulded. Fred is also true to character again with a dual sided face and this is also the only set you can get him in.
The scary tree isn't really necessary in my opinion, however looks good and adds another play option. The zombie is great! A very detailed minifigure who is suitably scary.
This set is wonderful, packed with play features, looks awesome, and is a must for Scooby Doo fans. If you only buy one Scooby Doo set, then it should be this one! "

An Awesome X-Wing!
" The Red 5 X-Wing Starfighter is Luke Skywalker's personal X-Wing and the one he was flying when he blew up the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. He also flew it or more precisely crashed it on Dagobah in The Empire Strikes Back. It is an iconic ship and Lego have done an excellent job in capturing it in brick form.
The shape of the ship is excellent and is true to it's movie counterpart. The colouring is good too, but the shade of red isn't quite like the one in the movie. The wing mechanism is truly fabulous. When you turn a wheel at the back the wings fold or unfold, so you can display it either in attack position or in normal flying position. There is a lot of detail to this model - the engines are tricky to build but capture the right shape and size. Inside the cockpit is very detailed with computer screens, joystick, and pilot's seat. There's room for R2-D2 in the back, although to be more movie accurate, he should be a bit further down, but I hardly think this is a fault.
The stand is strong and means you can display the X-Wing in perfect attack position, and the plaque has information on the ship itself.
This is a great model however there is one small catch - the stickers. I don't mind stickers, however the stickers you need to apply to the X-Wing are sometimes large and awkward, or small and awkward. I understand that printing isn't always feasible for Lego, however considering that this is a UCS model, it would have been nice. Also a Luke Skywalker figure would have been better considering that R2-D2 is the most popular Star Wars minifigure there is!
This model however is great and looks wonderful on display. A must have for anyone who either likes UCS sets or is a Star Wars fan, or both! "

Imperial Star Destroyer
" Imperial Star Destroyers are probably some of the most popular ships along with TIE Fighters in the Star Wars Original Trilogy. We've had quite a few Lego incarnations of Star Destroyers, and this latest model doesn't disappoint.
Although this model is more of a play model rather than a UCS type display model, it's bigger than I expected and has loads of detail. The Imperials were rather Spartan when it came to colour, they only ever used varying shades of grey, and Lego have done the same but have broken things up by using smooth plates to vary the texture and make it more visually pleasing. There are also cannons on both sides and shooters. Fans will be pleased that the shooters are green to mimic the green lasers the Imperial Star Destroyers use. A useful feature is that you can store the extra ones in a specifically designed compartment at the back.
The top comes off, and the sides fold down to reveal the centre of the ship which has more detail and plenty of play features. There's rows of computers and machines that are achieved by using stickers, an Emperor Palpatine hologram, a mouse droid, a screen showing what look like blueprints of some kind, and other fun features. There's also a really handy carry handle which is very sturdy and solid, so you can move the Destroyer with ease.
The minifigures are great. Included are Darth Vader complete with red lightsaber, two stormtroopers, an Imperial Officer, one Imperial Crew, and an Imperial Navy Trooper. All the minifigures are highly detailed, but I think the real draw here has to be the Emperor Palpatine hologram.
The build is rather tricky at times, and uses quite a few technic parts to make the carry handle, and attaching the side panels is a little difficult and requires patience. However the build is very rewarding, very detailed and a must have for your Imperial Fleet. "

A Gem of a Lego
" The T-16 Skyhopper was forever immortalised when Luke played with a model of one in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Now it is forever immortalised in Lego!
This is a lovely set that captures the shape of the ship perfectly, and uses a good range of techniques and pieces. The use of technic pieces means that this is a very sturdy model and can be used for either play or display. The ship uses a nice range of colours, and only a few stickers, making it visually pleasing when it's on display. It also has great shooters, which manage to shoot really quite far.
The minifigures are wonderful. The Skyhopper pilot is exclusive to this set and comes with a dual sided face - one with a visor for when he's flying, and a side without the visor for when he's not. The Tusken Raider is simply awesome! Lego have done a really great job in capturing this figure, and the detailing is superb! You also get a womp rat, which Star Wars fans will appreciate, as Luke mentions in a New Hope that he managed to bull's eye one. So now you can bull's eye one too!
All in all this is a fab little model and a must have for all Star Wars fans. "
