"PROS: The Tuskin figure is the highlight here. Nice new mold brings them to life more than ever.
CONS: $.14 per part. If it had not been a retailer exclusive it would likely have been better priced. Not a lot to separate it from the previous versions here. Stickers on curved parts like to peel.
"PROS: $.08 per part price is great. Good figures and a great new version of a rare Jedi. It is a small version remake of vehicle but I like the build. It was simple and felt like I got my money's worth.
"Price wise this set is really high. It really doesn't have a lot going for it other than a couple rarely released figures. It is accurate to the source material which was a single use vehicle in the Clone Wars cartoon. This set is seriously over priced at $.19 per part it is nearly double the average"
"PROS: For a small build it was actually pretty well designed. they got a lot of detail on the little bikes and the are rather sturdy in play even though they don't look like they should be. With a one stipulation the figures were actually really nice.
CONS: That previously mention stipulation...the two pirates have no faces. Seems like that was something easy enough to have done. Price per part this set is expensive...$.12 per part. Finally, the stickers are particularly bad. Even new they are having issues adhering and this seems to be a theme this year. I have observed it in a few other sets lately as well."
"PROS: Visually they did good in getting the look. This set plays well and is more sturdy than I expected. The hidden wheels make it easy to use on most surfaces. I like the figure selection as well. For some reason this version of Chewbacca is my new favorite. The train has some good play features and is semi-modular so you could potentially combine a couple to extend it. It feels like a good simplification of what would be a really expensive set to do accurately. It seems small on the build for the price but you are actually getting a really good value on price per part. There are just a lot of small parts. Still at $.07 per part it is well below the average price.
CONS: Stickers. If it was me I think I'd have added 2 more cars and made it a $100-110 set. the train just seems a little puny as is."
"Soooooooooooo many X-Wing models to choose from. Naturally that gives the latest model a lot to be compared with. This version has a lot going for it.
PROS: First off, I like the two version builds we get in this set. It really is nice to get an updated Biggs as well since he is long overdue. The new Droid is also welcome and I was surprised that it was in fact a new print not a reissue from the Imperial V-Wing. There is a new wing mechanic in this model as well that has changed how the S-Foils expand. It uses a switch rather than a knob on the back. As such it blends more pleasingly into the look of the model and works quite well. The model also has some rare color elements in it and of course the newer canopy design which I really love. While The price per part ratio is not great this is a nice example of LEGO upping the game. This version has 25-30 more parts than the previous 2 iterations of the X-Wing and the price point is unchanged.
CONS: Stickers...not just stickers, stickers on round parts. I have just built the sets and already they are peeling. I normally deduct on my reviews for stickers but these are particularly bad. The adhesive on these (I bought two of this set and it isn't a fluke for one set its present on both) stickers is bad...even the stickers on the flat parts are having issues adhering. additionally I prefer the older method of using tiles to denote the Red Number on the wings...the tiles allowed for even more variation. This version using stickers locks you into either Red 5 or Red 3. Lastly I am not a huge fan of the wing design...they are bulky and thicker than previous versions. They look good but they are just heavy enough that the rubber bands have a hard time keeping them closed in use. Finally, the spacing is just tight enough that with only minimal use the rubber bands have already snapped after mere days. The older X-Wing models have all gone years and still have the initial rubber bands that work fine after years of use.
SO-SO: Not sure even now if I like the new Rebel Pilot Helmets...they now have an attached visor which is accurate...but the shape and proportions are very awkward looking. The old method of having the pilot heads painted with the visors allowed some variation in having the visor up or down as well. It isn't a deal breaker but I don't know how much I like it. Price wise this set is also in the middle ground. It is better than the last 2 versions but isn't exactly a bargain. That said it also doesn't feel like a rip off either.
Overall I like the set. The rubber band issues have been a problem but LEGO is always great about their service and provided replacements in a very timely manner. If I had my choice I would like the canopy and wing mechanic of this model with the wing and rubber band design of the older republic X-Wing. If only there was a way to get the best of both worlds...like if I could take parts from one and combine them...ah well wishful thinking. :P"
"I had really mixed impressions going into this set. I had wanted a Cloud City remake for a long time as the old version was one of my favorite play sets and continues to be one I enjoy using with my nieces and nephews. It was a terrible display piece but was a fantastic set for play. It had all the best scenes from the climax of Empire Strikes Back and even now both the kids and I often replay the movie using it. When this set came out and was branded UCS I was a little excited and upon learning it was a play set I was torn. I love the UCS sets to display as an adult and I love the play sets to play with the kids. I have not usually liked the "UCS Play Sets" though as they don't tend to feel like a good example of either genre. I was really worried that this was gonna end up being an expensive play set that wouldn't display well but was too fragile to actually play with...well LEGO changed my mind.
PROS: The set is fantastically playable. True it is just fragile enough that moving it and swooshing it is not really actionable...but then again Cloud City is a station and doesn't much need to swoosh. The build is fantastic with lots of clever part uses and part variety. Many colors and play features as well and is very much a successor to the older version in every play feature regard. It is detailed and structurally sound but unlike the Death Star sets with similar layout designs Cloud City is easy to access all the various play areas without removing entire panels and layers. It has a fantastic figure assortment and features every major character from the films epic climax minus a couple bounty hunters. Price per parts comes in at $.08 per part which makes it the BEST part to price value of the last 3 years in the Star Wars line. The real surprise to me though is how well it actually displays. The design actually has a pleasing look and while not a detailed exterior model like many of the UCS sets it actually has its own artistic look. I also very much approve of LEGO making a new distinction in the UCS sets going forward. Lastly, I have to say how impressed I was with the Slave One model. The Cloud Car is almost actual scale so it was pretty accurate and a nice successor to the much older version. Slave One on the other hand was really shrunk down to fit this set compared to other versions. That said it is a very nice version of the ship. The proportions are accurate and it is very swooshable.
CONS: Stickers...nothing is perfect and there are a lot of stickers on this set...two sheets worth."
"Okay, technically Luke isn't really nekid but Bacta Tank Luke is a good addition as his legs make for a good swim suit or boxer short part for other builds and the torso came in handy for doing clone tubes on Kamino.
PROS: This is a nice set for getting some hard to find parts like the min fig tools and drawers. It is a pretty straight forward build with a good focus on play features. At $.08 per part it is reasonable price wise. Honestly as the title says this set is worth it for the part selection alone. The figures are good. Luke Leia and a couple droids...the medical one can be hard to find and I think this version has the most accurate coloring. Finally, NO STICKERS!
CONS: Not the most epic display piece on its own...but on a shelf with the other Hoth/Echo Base sets it can fit right in."
"PROS: Generally a pretty accurate set to the movie and the build hid some clever play features like the compartment for the hounds. It is very swoshable and will not fall apart in active play. No stickers is also a nice plus. The figures felt well placed and were good representations of the movie.
CONS: Price...at $.12 per part this is really on the upper end for value per part."
"PROS: This set has a ton of really fun building features. A lot of clever things were done to get the look correct. It is both a challenge and a thrill to build this set. It took most of the amazing features from the previous UCS version and improved them adding internal details and rooms while managing to keep the whole intact and visually pleasing. The new cockpit was a more appropriate look and the little details were really accounted for. Price per part it is mildly on the high side but not insane. It was also a fantastic touch adding the ability to recreate the original and force awakens versions of the ship. Overall a very nice update to the older version.
CONS: At $800 Lego really skimped on figures. There should have absolutely been Luke, R2, Obi Wan, Lando, Nien Nunb and a few more. At that price 15-20 figures was really not out of the question. At the very least if they had put the previously mentioned ones in you could have crewed it for any on the 5 movies. Stickers...an $800 set should not have stickers...and in this set several are applied to curves which always leads to peeling very quickly into the set's life."
