Plan Your Escape!
" I got this set for Christmas. It is awesome!
My favorite piece is the chopper. It has been over 20 years since I’ve built a Lego chopper and this one is great. It uses a couple of “cabinet” pieces to store some police items…like a camera and a bullhorn. As others have pointed out, though, it doesn’t actually connect to the helipad…it just kind of sits there. I imagine this will lead to it falling off more than once or twice.
The station itself is very cool. It is made up of three larger builds…the watch tower (which includes a cool radar/satellite dish), the jail cell tower (the cells include interesting wall drawing stickers and neat escape plans), and the office tower (with a couple of areas for processing those pesky criminals).
The other vehicles are also cool. The crook truck is a bit generic but the grappling hook attached to the back of the truck is sweet! The police car and bike are also pretty standard but needed in a set like this, especially if you don’t already have them.
All in all, this will make a great addition to my cityscape…which is coming along quite nicely. A few more base plates and another folding table or two and I should be in really good shape. "

Where the Action Is
" I got this set for Christmas. It is awesome! Below is a breakdown of each “piece” within the set (including the approximate build time for each).
Statue / Street Sweeper (10 minutes): I love that the Statue is a gray version of the “Castle” minifigs. Before I decided to build a “Legoville, USA”, I contemplated building a castle collection so it was cool to be able to add a castle “touch” to my cityscape. The cleaning bristles of the Street Sweeper actually move when the vehicle does, which even my 50-year old father thought was a nice touch.
Bus (35 minutes): This thing is pretty cool. There is only enough room for a handful of minifigs (including the driver which comes with this set), so the inside isn’t very life-like. But, the top is removable and both doors (front and rear) open so there is a ton of possibility for play with this vehicle. And, the outside looks amazing!
Pizza Shop (35 minutes): Who doesn’t love pizza? I know I do. And this building features some cool colors. Also, the downtown skyline stickers add that “city” feel to the set.
Bike Shop (45 minutes): The revolving door is a great idea, but it doesn’t seem to function as well as I would’ve hoped. Still, a great concept and the second floor showroom (with black and orange checkerboard tiles) looks great! The roof and second floor are both easily removed so the playability is endless with this piece.
Crane (1 hour): This is the piece I was most looking forward to and it did not disappoint. First, it looks great and makes me want to get more construction-type vehicles and add them to my project. The cabin opens up so getting a driver in and out is easy. The crane moves up and down (it includes a couple of pieces that look and operate just like hydraulics), the base of the crane rotates, and the crane itself is a functional piece. I was worried the string would be weak but it is actually quite strong. I don’t think parents will have to worry about it breaking from wear and tear. You can decide if you want the crane to be mobile or stationary (it even comes with stoppers). If you change your mind, the pieces can be swapped out quickly (it even includes a place to store the stoppers). My only complaint about this piece is that the legs which hold the stoppers should have a way of locking in to place. It seems to me they move about too freely and could be a nuisance during play.
Overall (roughly 3 hours total build time): After building a couple of smaller sets (Mountain Hut, Seaside House, and Small Cottage), this is the first large set I’ve built since I was a kid. It didn’t disappoint at all. I give it a five out five and look forward to building more large sets like this soon. "

Bang For Your Buck
" I got this as a gift for Christmas. It isn't a set I was planning to buy for myself but it was a pleasant surprise. It was very easy to build and there are some very nice, fun details.
Pros: Sliding glass doors, removable roof, swivel chair, and it opens up for a better view inside.
Cons: For the price, there really isn't any.
This will make a nice addition to my "Legoville, USA" project. "

Fun In The Sun...and Sand!
" My "Seaside House" came in the mail today. As soon as I finished dinner, I started working on it. Right out of the box I was concerned because the instruction booklets were damaged. I was worried I received a re-packaged set, even though I purchased directly from lego.com. Thankfully, the pieces were sealed and I wasn't missing any. I'm still disappointed my booklets were damaged, though. I try to take good care of everything so hopefully this doesn't hurt re-sale value later.
This is a nice set. It didn't take me nearly as long to build this one as the "Mountain Hut" set, but that doesn't mean this set isn't equally as fun. I really like the level of detail on the outside of the house and got a kick out of the way the 2nd floor roof opens up to the sunshine.
Cons include the fact that the inside of the hut is lacking detail. Just a ladder which leads from the first floor to the second and a blue 2x4 brick (is this supposed to be a bed?). Also, the set as a whole could probably be a little bigger. While the second floor opens up in the neat way I mentioned previously, the first floor is almost completely blocked off. I personally only build sets to add to a "cityscape" I'm creating, but I would be disappointed if I were a child who wanted to play with this and move the minifig around his house.
Pros include the outside shower (complete with a bar of soap), the seagull (too cool), the "grill on wheels", the wave, and the tiki torches on the patio...like I said, a lot of detail on the outside.
I will purchase more of this set in order to build the other designs and add them to my "Legoville, USA". But, I can't give this a 5. 4 out of 5 for this one. "

Let The Fun Begin!
" I've been playing with Legos since I was a kid. Within the last six months, I've re-discovered this exciting hobby. After building a Winter Wonderland (including Santa's Workshop and the Winter Market) for Christmas 2014, I decided to start a new project...which I'm calling Legoville, USA. My plan is to use the "City" theme sets to build a Downtown Area and maybe throw in a few of the "Creator" theme sets to add flavor to the overall project. This set, the Mountain Hut, will make a perfect addition by allowing me to also build a forest recreation area.
I found the set to be priced well. The hut itself is really nice. I decided to build the version with the mountain and the eagle (I plan to purchase a second set later so I can also have the version with the duck pond). The set is designed in a way so that the hut opens up, which I think is pretty cool. My only complaints are:
1.) The only headgear for the minifig is a helmet. It would've been nice to give him other headgear (like maybe a trapper hat)...or even just standard minifig hair so I don't have to take one from my collection. This would also add to the playability by allowing us to send our minifig on other adventures.
2.) The mountain leaves a little to be desired. I was disappointed to find that the bulk of the mountain is two large pieces, instead of several smaller pieces which would've added to the building experience. Also, the mountain is really only half complete. When viewed from one side, it is just a hollow background (see photo below). I guess I can take pieces from my collection in attempt to complete it, but I shouldn't need to do that. Not when I'm spending my hard earned money for complete sets.
All in all, I would recommend this set. The cons I've listed above really shouldn't prevent anyone from buying it, just be aware of them in order to set your own expectations accordingly.
I can't wait to get the Seaside House next and start working on my "coastal community" of Legoville, USA. "
