"I got this set for... doing nothing, pretty much. It was intended as a gift for someone else, but they already had it, so it was passed down to me. I had the opportunity to turn it down, but then I remembered that it had some pieces which I needed for some models at the moment. So, without further ado, here is my evaluation. As I mentioned in my review of the Samurai Mech, LEGO mecha have really decreased in the size-per-price stat-- and this is true of the Fire Mech. Minus the two decorative katana, this stands only half as high as the EXO-FORCE Fire Vulture, which is 3/2 its price. However, I much prefer this over the larger Samurai Mech, which was more bulk than moving parts. This set has 6 free-moving Ball-joints, and one double ball joint, a critical piece I needed. These are connected by four Hero Factory arms, which I don't really care for as much. These make the mech a bit small, and I would have preferred some system ball-joints. The other special pieces for the set include 7 gold blades (3 katana and two curved blades), 3 dragon claw bricks, 7 robot hand bricks in gold, and four of the new sideways-building plate variations. The remainder of the set is primarily red bricks and gold decorations. Oh, forgot to mention, the Fire Blade--Ninjago's new collectible weapon. It's transparent yellow with a transparent red center, similar to other fire elements. The minifigures of the set aren't my favorites. I don't really like the KX, it's kind of a letdown after NRG, and I don't think I'll use the torso much in the future, but might keep the red belt-on-black pants. The headgear is the same as on ZX. The Stone Scout has some nice printing, but the big green glob kind of ruins it. His head is similar to Lord Garmadon's but more crazed. He also comes with the first red quiver and rice hat, and a gunmetal crossbow. Now, to finish this off, I'd like to compare this to its competitors. The primary competitors in the mecha genre include Creator's Power Mech and Thunder Wings, Chima's Eagle Interceptor, TMNT's Robot Rampage, and Ninjago's Golden Mech from Temple of Light. Most of these have a set of Click Ball Joints and a set of Ball Joints (the $20+ ones can have extra), at about 20 (plus a pair of hands), while this one has ''eight'' ball joints and two hands for $10. IMO, the best the year has to offer."
"Once upon a time, there was a theme called Lego Exo-Force. It had lots of mecha with interconnected joints, and each were only #14.99. Sadly, the theme ended a while ago, and now the mecha and robots have gotten either smaller or more expensive. I am an extreme mech/robot fan, so the Samurai Mech was at the top of my Lego wish list, not for the model as much as its parts. With the build, however, I am slightly disappointed. Contrary to other reviews, the catapult works quite nicely. The snakes can be seated in the bucket and flicked off. It also comes with some profile bricks with a brick-like texture. It also has a new flat piece under the bucket. Now for the highlight of the set, the mech. It has two click ball joints for the hips, four ball joints for shoulders and ankles (plus two Hero Factory extensions), and a technic axle for the waist. It also has lots of clips to move the ankle-guards, shoulder-guard armor (train pieces!), hip guards, cockpit mask, hands, and shoulder weapons, plus others for decoration. It also uses click hinges for the heavier cockpit top. It’s not as large as I thought it was, in fact most of my recent custom mechs are larger than it is (Google Starblaster9428 on Lego MBA to see) and most of its weight comes from its bulk, which is a lot thicker than Exo-Force. The cannon on the shoulder works quite well, but it should be tilted back when it is being walked. It is mirrored on the other side by a laser beam. It also comes with some newer pieces, such as the circular tops and sideways building pieces, and has a Technic axle to hold its new giant katana in place."
"Bytar is one of the new spinner booster packs. Booster Packs are a great way to improve spinners or get bulk weapons and characters. Bytar is one of the Constrictai, my favorite Serpentine clan. The Character: Bytar is a warrior of the Constrictai, my favorite Serpentine clan. He is black and grey, with orange chest stripes, and spikes on his large head. His head is unique to him and Skalidor. However, because of the size of the head and short legs, Bytar has only enough flexibility to function in the spinner game. One of Bytar’s eyes is yellow, the other is orange. The Weapons: Bytar’s basic weapons are a scimitar-like sword and giant purple-bladed staff. The Staff is made of two fangs connected to a shaft. His golden weapon is a gold snake, like Fang-Suei uses. Cards: Bytar has four cards to boost your deck. Earth Bound makes your opponent only able to play earth cards during the round. Crown of Earth allows you to build a crown on your spinner or remove your opponent’s crown (or remove your crown or add your opponent’s crown.) Ground attack is a metal card, and if your opponent touches it, they discard all their face up crown cards. Bytar’s customizing card is Chain Strike. With this card, you add special pieces onto your spinner. These include two large Earth Shields. You also add black chains. The downside to the chains is you usually have to use your teeth to get them out, but you can also attach the chain pieces by their studs and make them easier to come out after the turn is over. You also add a lift brick. Pros: Bytar Purple blades Cards Cons: None Ninja-GO! P.S. Apparently Ninjago is going to end in 2013, and the Spinjitzu game replaced by a new series. Thus, don’t get any new spinners, but the booster packs still have something in them.
P.P.S. These little sets also work as stocking stuffers."
"I made both of these reviews a while ago when I was at these kits' levels, when these kits cost less. If you don't like long reviews, then please don't read any of mine. Mine tend to be long. Lego MBA nickname: Starblaster9428, level 2, kit 4.
Lego Master Builder Academy kits are different from all other Lego sets. Like the Lego Creator sets, each has information on how to build 3 models out of 1, and a few other bricks for your own creations. But it also includes special building tips in the instructions. These show you when you are using the Master Builder techniques found in the kit as well as other things. Also, you can unlock a corresponding level in the exclusive MBA website. After the Space kit is the first kit in the first subscription: The Microbuild kit. This kit includes instructions on building microscale models and introduces two new Master Builder techniques, the size scaling technique and the small elements technique. The robot kit is the third kit and the last green level 1 kit. This kit includes instructions on building robots and mechs and introduces three new Master Builder techniques, the balance technique, the detailing technique and the alternate uses technique. The techniques learned earlier are also used and some are marked out. Most Master Builder Academy kits include minifigure accessories and gear but they must be used on a separate minifigure. Kit 2 includes a minifigure baseball cap that the figure will usually wear on a day-to-day basis. It also includes two hand-held objects, a magnifying glass and a space shuttle (which is really, REALLY Microscale.) Kit 3 includes a minifigure helmet that the figure will wear when piloting a mech, enabling him to communicate with his mech. It also includes a plasma gun that can be used to stop haywire robots or charge up a robot’s batteries. The Airport is the first model in kit 2. It features a large runway with lights for airplanes to take off from or land on, a control tower with a speaker, a hotel and a waiting room. The runway is built with large grey tiles, and the lights are translucent red tiles alongside green tiles. The windows are made of clear blue or clear light blue plates; the hotel has three floors and an extension with two floors and the control tower has a ground floor, six upper floors, and the top floor. 3 vehicles are also found in the model; a plane, a forklift and a small bus. Following that is the Race Track. This model includes 2 racers, a loudspeaker and a section of the course. It has red and green flags and lights for night races. The lights are again alternating translucent red tiles beside green tiles. The ramp takes the racers over the water hazard and back onto the course. There are two racers, one a single-stud-wide racer, and the other a two-stud-wide racer with more detail. The loudspeaker building has two floors. Then there is the Shuttle Launch. It includes multiple buildings including a radio tower and a boarding ramp. The launch pad is hinged so that it can lift up the shuttle. The shuttle can stand on end on the launch pad to launch off. It is the only one of the three models not including alternating translucent red tiles and green tiles but does include the alternating clear blue and grey layers. The first model included in kit 3 is the X-91-B. It has a four-thruster jetpack and a robotic head with a protective dome. It uses all six ball-joints, used as hips, shoulders, and ankles. It also has a claw on one arm and elbows. On the arms are two folding wings to assist flight. It carries two weapons: a laser cannon where the left claw should be, and a dual blaster on the right arm. Then there is the Robo-walker. This is a four-legged insect-like mecha. It features an opening cockpit, a laser cannon that can change for wide range or long distance, and frontal instruments (lights, lasers, scanners, or something else.) However the cannon placement was hard when I first built it. The four insect-like legs each use large antenna pieces to hold it up, and green exoskeleton armor. This model’s building especially focuses on balance. The third (and my favorite) model from the book is the Plasma Mech. It has jets on the streamlined feet and gliding wings for flight. It also carries flashlights on its hands when the robot is mining underground. And for weapons, it has the powerful lava blasters and quad-laser cannon on the front. This robot also has, in the rear view, a succession of colored cylinder bricks, as batteries, air tanks for the pilot, and lava tanks for the blasters. The MBA subscription also comes with a code that you can use on the Lego website to upgrade your online MBA member profile. Each kit’s corresponding level includes articles, videos (including MBA technique videos), a master builder bio, and a gallery for that kit. You can earn 5 badges for each kit: one for uploading a model into the gallery, one for rating models (but you can earn those early on) and one each for the Brick Clips quiz, the handbook trivia, and the skill test. The only other bad thing you can’t play any MBA-exclusive games.
To put all this into pros and cons: Pros: Minifigure accessories (Hat is a new type) Lots of clear blue one-third pieces, red tiles, and circular light blue pieces Website Quizzes and videos Loading models Rating models Easy access between different kit galleries Member profiles on website There’s a ROBOT Kit!!!! New dome piece Cons: No exclusive MBA games Not much to do with microbuild models once you’ve built them. You can’t review your comments like you used to be able to. No Click Ball Joints for robots."
"Catch ‘em and cuff ‘em is the name of the game for Hero Factory 2012, and Rocka is leading the Charge! He has everything he needs to chase down Black Phantom who is operating out of Hero Factory itself. This figure includes 300 game points for the online Breakout Game, which is better (in my opinion) than any other Hero Factory game; it has only five levels but it has plenty of secret areas. Now back to Rocka. He has a new helmet with the 2009 head, and a new energy shield on the other side. On his other arm he carries a crossbow-shaped plasma gun. The plasma gun is shorter than the earlier launchers created in 2009. It also has an armored top. There is also a flexible piece with spears and Hero Cuffs. He also has back armor. In the US, Rocka is $12.99. Why? Well, Rocka has larger pieces so that he stands head and shoulders above the other heroes (except perhaps Stormer XL.) And he has some big armor and parts. But I don’t think that is enough, Maybe they should have done away with some parts to make a better price. Pros: New Helmet Energy Shield Larger Armor and Legs Plasma Gun Back Armor New Shoulder Guard Cons: Price Some parts could be left out."

LEGO Games: HEROICA Caverns of Nathuz(3859)
Stop the golem lord from creating a monster army in the Caverns of Nathuz!
"Heroica is a sub-theme of Lego Games. It has a storyline similar to Lord of the Rings and is based after classic Role Playing Games. The Caverns of Nathuz includes three heroes, four microfigure monsters, and four bats. It also includes a weapon rack, ten pieces of gold, and the Scepter. In the game, the Heroes are moved with the Lego dice. The red hero can also use a ranged ability (a projectile) if you roll the shield side. When you run into a monster, you must fight it. If you lose to it, you must remove health points from your hero pack. If you roll shield in battle, you not only defeat the monster, but a Nathuz hero other than the red hero you can add a bonus melee ability to your attack. The weapons must be bought with 3 gold pieces each, and give you weaker versions of special abilities. There are two tracks (or quests) included in the game. In the first quest you must defeat the leader of the Nathuz monsters. In the second you must find the Scepter, which allows you to “summon” monsters from an opponent’s hero pack. You can rearrange the pieces to create new quests, and/or connect it with other Heroica sets. You can also change the rules, such as allowing the addition of a monster player or playing one quest after another. I like to pit my monster armies against each other.
Note my rating of Value for Money. It is 5 because it is on sale price."
"Heroica is a sub-theme of Lego Games. It has a storyline similar to Lord of the Rings and is based after classic Role Playing Games. Waldurk Forest includes three heroes, four microfigure monsters, and four spiders. It also includes a weapon rack, ten pieces of gold, and the Chalice. In the game, the Heroes are moved with the Lego dice. They can also use a ranged ability if you roll the shield side. All characters in Waldurk, except the yellow hero, have a ranged ability, such as a projectile. When you run into a monster, you must fight it. If you lose to it, you must remove health points from your hero pack. If you roll shield in battle, you not only defeat the monster, but as the yellow hero you can defeat all adjacent enemies and move ahead one space. The weapons must be bought with 3 gold pieces each, and give you weaker versions of special abilities. There are two tracks (or quests) included in the game. In the first quest you must defeat the leader of the Waldurk monsters. In the second you must find the Chalice, which is a free but very weakened version of the ranged healing ability. You can rearrange the pieces to create new quests, and/or connect it with other Heroica sets. You can also change the rules, such as allowing the addition of a monster player or playing one quest after another. I like to pit my monster armies against each other."
"Heroica is a sub-theme of Lego Games. It has a storyline similar to Lord of the Rings and is based after classic Role Playing Games. Draida Bay is the smallest of all Heroica Games. It includes two heroes, six microfigure monsters, a health item, and the Crystal. In the game, the Heroes are moved with the Lego dice. The red hero can also use a projectile if you roll the shield side. When you run into a monster, you must fight it. If you lose to it, you must remove health points from your hero pack. If the yellow hero rolls shield in battle, you not only defeat the monster, but can defeat all adjacent enemies and move ahead one space. This set has only one track (quest): to defeat the monster general and take the crystal. You can rearrange the pieces to create new quests, and/or connect it with other Heroica sets. You can also change the rules, such as allowing the addition of a monster player.
Note that I did not recommend this. That is because there is not much for this game on its own. Get one of the other Heroica sets before this one."
"Heroica is a sub-theme of Lego Games. It has a storyline similar to Lord of the Rings and is based after classic Role Playing Games. Castle Fortaan is the largest of all Heroica Games, and I got it first. It is great if you want to get into the action with one set. It includes four heroes, eleven microfigure monsters, and a frog. The frog doesn’t do anything normally though. It also includes a weapon rack, twelve pieces of gold, and the Helmet. In the game, the Heroes are moved with the Lego dice. They can also use a ranged ability if you roll the shield side. All characters in Fortaan, except the yellow hero, have a ranged ability, such as a projectile. There are three tracks (or quests) included in the game. In the first quest you must defeat the king of the monsters. In the second you must find the Helmet, which increases your max health points. In the third you must find the king’s battle plans. You can rearrange the pieces to create new quests, and/or connect it with other Heroica sets. You can also change the rules, such as allowing the addition of a monster player or playing one quest after another. I like to pit my monster armies against each other."
"Mezmo is one of the new spinner booster packs. Booster Packs are a great way to improve spinners or get bulk weapons and characters. I got him with Jay ZX in the beginning of June. The Character: Mezmo is Soldier of the Hypnobrai. He has grey stripes with yellow up his body, with grey hypnotize spirals. His head is unique to him and Spitta, with the cobra shape and fangs. Mezmo also has the stripes on his head and red hypnotic eyes. The Weapons: Mezmo’s basic weapons are a pickaxe and chain fang. The chain fang has a longer staff similar to Lasha’s. His golden weapon is a golden halberd, like Kruncha’s twin hatchet with fangs. Cards: Mezmo has four cards to boost your deck. Sacred Flute is like Card Freeze, except now your opponent cannot use face-up crown cards either. Upper-Hand is like Deflection except it extends to crown cards as well. Inner-Peace gives you 300 SP in all four powers. With the right character, weapon, and crown, this card will allow you to play any card. This card is required for Mezmo to play his customizing card, Snake Whips. With this card, you add special pieces onto your spinner. You add the two red shields. You also add purple snake blades. The downside to the blades is you usually have to use your teeth to get them out. You also add a lift brick to give your blades better ground clearance. Pros: Mezmo Chain Fang Snake Whips Inner-Peace Cons: Blades hard to get out Ninja-GO!"
