"While I found Gollum useful for one underwater Mini Access hatch to get a gold brick, I don't find him any more useful than any of the other Mini Access hatch characters. I would recommend getting Bart or Slimer instead because they can at least get you access to adventure worlds that you don't get by default. Also, I've run across at least three gold brick puzzles designed exclusively for Slimer. (Dive + Sonic), (Ghost + Sonic), and (Mini Access + Illuminate)
Please pair Gollum with Aquaman for fishy dialog.
Building the spider models was interesting, but I haven't found much use for the spider in game."
"As of March 2016, this is the only set that has the Vine Cut ability and the Gyroswitch ability. Both abilities come in handy for collecting gold bricks and mini kits. This set also comes with the electric ability, which is not exclusive to this set, but handy all the same.
I enjoyed building the dinosaur model vehicle, and like the color and variety of pieces in that model. I love that LEGO included a minifigure of color--they are too rare.
I am vexed by the Vine Cut ability. We are to believe that vines cannot be cut with lasers, explosives, battle axes or elemental swords, but can be cut with Owen's hunting knife. I wouldn't care to explain that to my child."
"I enjoyed playing the Simpsons level--especially the pepper induced hallucination sections. They were both colorful and creative. There were a few puzzles in the level that I found difficult to complete because the solution was not obvious based on the context.
I am amused by much of Homer's in game dialog. I suggest pairing him with Wonder Woman.
I enjoy the purple and pink pieces in the vehicle and TV gadget. They were also fun to build. The TV gadget is useless outside the Simpsons level if you have any character with Silver Blow Up ability. I have not tried the submarine configuration of the vehicle."
"I love both the Stay Puft minifig and the Terror Dog model in this set. Both are very well designed. Also, Terror Dog is a great choice for a "vehicle" in this franchise. Unlike many fun packs that have unuseful redundant vehicles, Terror Dog is an enjoyable figure/character. I tried the other two builds for the Terror Dog, and didn't care for them, so rebuild the first model.
While I love his animations, I don't find Stay Puft's abilities useful in the game. I'm disappointed by the Terror Dog's features. Even fully upgraded, he cannot jump. Also, I would have expected/loved for him to have the Guardian perk so he would attack hostiles even when you're not riding him. The game designers could have done a much better job with Terror Dog's ability set/tree."
"This set is a must have for completionists. I just got it yesterday, and have racked up many gold bricks from the adventure worlds using the Atlantis ability. I also recall that there is a mini-kit Atlantis Well at the end of the Ninjago story level, but haven't gotten back to that yet.
I'm amused by the Aquman dialogue, and intentionally tried him with different characters sets just to see what he would say. I won't post any spoilers, but anything related to fish Aquaman has something to say about it. Nothing yet from the Wicked Witch and her water aversion.
Aquaman seems to swim at about the same speed as Cragger, but I was able to complete the LoTR adventure world swim/climb race with Aquaman that I couldn't with Cragger.
The vehicle has a respectable top speed, but low acceleration. I've found the slow start (even with L1 speed boost) to be prohibitive for races. Craggers swamp boat accelerates much faster.
I'm disappointed that neither Aquaman nor his vehicle have the Sonar Smash ability. SONAR (SOund Navigation And Ranging) is a staple for submarine/nautical navigation and seems like something they should have."
"I love the color and variety of parts in this set. I enjoyed building the model, and then I immediately scrapped it for parts. I incorporated many of the 2x2 curved white and pink parts as well as the top of the lighthouse into my Cloud Cuckoo Palace. I also like the dark blue roof bricks.
The big ice cream cone is the perfect size to be a treat for the Metal Beard model from set 70807. The pink boat is a good accessory for Unikitty."
"I enjoyed building the vehicle in this set more than I thought I would. It has colors I like, good reusable pieces and is cleverly constructed. It doesn't seem to have any features I've found useful for gameplay.
Laval has a nice range of abilities, but I usually play as Wonder Woman and Chi is the only ability Laval seems to have that Wonder Woman doesn't. If you like the Laval character, you'll likely have a great time with this set. If you're impartial, I'd recommend Wonder Woman for the bulk of Laval's abilities, and Cragger for the Chi ability."
"This is a great little model. The ship build is both compact enough to take with you and sturdy enough to stand up to hard play. It has at least two solid places to hold onto while flying it around. It also has plenty of interesting pieces that will be useful when I decide to retire the ship.
I've wanted a Hera Syndulla minifigure ever since I saw LEGO 75053 The Ghost set, but couldn't justify paying $90 for the three figures I wanted. I'm so glad to get a second chance with this set."
"I've found the Scooby character in this set to be incredibly useful. His Dive, Dig, and Tracking abilities have been critical for finding many gold bricks and mini-kit parts.
I tried the upgraded Mystery Machine mech water cannons, but don't find them as useful as the Soaker iteration of the Cloud Cuckoo Car from the Unikitty fun pack. One of the green 1x1 bricks in the Mystery Machine has a stress crack starting from the bottom center of one of the sides and runs about halfway up. It is a testament to The LEGO Company that in 30some years of playing with bricks, this is defect is uncommon enough to point out.
I haven't found much use for Shaggy, and can't figure out what the Scooby Snack is supposed to do. It would be lovely if there was an in-game reference showing how gadgets work similar to the in game index of characters and their abilities."
"I originally purchased this set to have a character with the Chi ability.
Since, I have found many Chi gate sites underwater, and only two that are more easily accessible with a flying character.
If you're looking for a Dimensions character operate Chi gates, I'd recommend Cragger. You can get Cragger to the "flying" Chi sites with a vehicle, but you can't use Eris' Chi ability underwater. Also, the Cragger set vehicle is quite useful for races and accessing underwater areas blocked by silver bricks."
