To The Bat...Base
" I'm not the world's biggest Batman fan but I do really like the Batman range and this is one of the sets that has cemented that. It is full of little details and playability features that make this a great set for both play and display. Personally it is more for display than play but that is probably because I am an AFOL.
Good range of minifigures included in the set which allows you to pit Batman and his gang against his foes. Even better the various included vehicles all slot in to the Bat Base for storage/transportation so you can swoop down in the Batplane and then dock it under the truck. The quad bike drives up in to the rear and stores nicely. Throw in an onboard jail cell and you are all set for your crime fighting.
The build was a lot better than I thought as my previous experience with builds with a lot of black in them is that they can be hard to see. Admittedly I built this using my LED lights rather than the orange tinted light that my build area main light kicks out. Definitely made it much easier and it is recommended that you try and get a set up that includes a bright white light before even attempting to build something like this.
Overall it is a really sturdy build that seems a little pricey until you see all those custom moulded pieces. They really do make this an impressive looking set, even when all stashed away the truck itself looks great.

You're A Wizard
" Knowing how large the finished piece is I put off building this set for several months as finding somewhere to display it was proving to be tricky. I finally got something figured out and couldn't wait to start building this set. I am still completely obsessed with Harry Potter and it is this theme that drew me back in to Lego as an adult needing to fill time during the first Lockdown. That spiralled quite rapidly and led to this beauty becoming mine.
This is one of those sets that does benefit from lighting. The stained glass windows are so beautiful lit up and I am actually contemplating rigging something up for the display. I was really surprised at the sheer level of detail in this model, especially as it is micro figure size. The nods to each of the Harry Potter movies is impressive but The Chamber Of Secrets is my favourite scene representation.
Going in to the build I was not sure about the micro figure proportions. I am converted! This may be as I build primarily for display but because it is such a small scale it means you can get a lot more detail in the build without it becoming prohibitively expensive or ridculously large. I was surprised that even with the smaller scale there is a lot of architectural and furnishing detailing; admittedly some is created by stickers but I can live with that now I have a sticker fixing system in place that means they usually look okay.
I fell in love with the box for this build and was worried I wouldn't enjoy the build or the finished item as I had probably got myself over excited about it. The build was a wonderful experience - All 8 movies got played whilst I built and then I had to resort to the audiobooks as the films finished before I did! The finished item lives in my bedroom and it makes my heart sing and a grin break out every time I look it.

Into The Depths
" This is one of those kits that I did not go with an intention of purchasing, it was the a combination of the pack art and the fact it linked with 3 other sets to make one large game that did it for me. I have still not figured out how to play the game BUT I do know that these sets look absolutely phenomenal on display together.
The detailing on this particular build is incredible. Yes, it looks great from the front but the rear is chock full of little rooms including an actual jail cell and a spell room for the Skull Sorcerer himself. I was surprised at the level of detail to the back of the build and am still trying to think of a way it can be seen on display but haven't figured that out yet.
Definitely designed to play with and comes with a good selection of minifigures. I admit that I love all the Ninjago figures, especially the bad guys. They just add so much to a display, let alone the play value.

Waving
" The iconic Lucky Cat wave is a running joke between myself and my husband. Couple this with my borderline obsession with Brick Headz and this was a no brainer. Even better you CAN make the cat wave which I wasn't aware of until I built the figure. Yes, I did squee like a pre-teen when I found out.
Fairly standard Brick Headz build and appearance when constructed. Really pleased with how he looks built up and put with my small collection even if stylistically he doesn't really fit with the Hallowe'en theming I have going on.
Cute and iconic figure that I am very pleased to have in my collection.

Skele-Dragon
" The pack art for this one really drew me in and as I already had the Skull Sorcerer's Dungeon it would have been churlish of me not to buy it to flesh out the boardgame option. Admittedly, I've never tried to play it but that didn't stop me wanting to get all the sections for it - nice marketing Lego Group...lol.
When I started building I hadn't realised that it came with some nice little scenes to construct before you get to the main even of the dragon. These are nicely detailed and, even better, include a wonderful stone mini figure that made this non-mini-fig collector exceptionally happy. Talking of Mini Figures the bad guys that are included with this Ninjago set are top notch, in fact they definitely rank in my favourites - Cole, Kai, Lloyd and crew are okay but the bad guys are really where it is at on the Ninjago kits and these are second only to Fire Fang.
The dragon himself looks fantastic built and is actually really sturdy when built. I was surprised at how tough he is and definitely great for play. I love the little rubber band mechanism that allows you to house a "spider egg" in the rib cage of the dragon and drop it like a little bio-bomb. Great little feature that adds to gameplay and also adds a nice bright pop of colour to the model when on display.
He is really large when built and the wingspan is impressive. The cloth wings keep it light and look good when fitted.
On the whole super impressed with the finished model.

Carbonite!
" Whilst I am a fan of the original Star Wars trilogy, I haven't been able to build many of the ships as The Boy has decided that they are going to be all his. I did twist his arm in to purchasing this particular model and he really isn't keen on it so I finally managed to get my hands on a Ship build.
Really glad that I did as this was a lot of fun and it is surprisingly stable when built, I did expect it to be pretty fragile. Even better technic beams are used to create a collapsible handle on the base of the ship so it is really easy to pick up and it makes swooping it through the air so unbelievably simple - yes, yes, I may be a grown up but I still had to fly it for a little bit.
The mini figures are really cool. Of course, with it being a ship there is not a lot of option to display them on the model but I think I figured something out that works for me. For some reason I really struggle to get mini figs to stand up on my shelving so I always want to try and fit them on my builds then they don't get lost.
Overall it looks really effective built and the colour choices with the dark mint against the burgundy really work well and give a good rendition of the ship. However, there is a slight disparity in the colour of the burgundy round edging pieces with the left being a shade darker than the right. Not really noticeable unless you have it under good lighting (my display is very poor lighting at the moment) but I know it's there and it annoys me.
Other than that this was a really fun build with very few stickers.

Blue Racer
" First thing that needs mentioning is the number of stickers in this kit. For such a small model there are a LOT of stickers. Now, my sticker-fu is vastly improved from when I started building back in July 2020 but this was still a challenge. It doesn't help that a lot of the stickers are meant to align over 2 bricks and getting them sited exactly is just not going to happen unless you are a superhero.
Now that moan is out of the way the build itself is as expected from this line. I really like the Speed Champions series and am slowly collecting from the range as they are sturdy for play but also look really impressive on display. At the moment they are relegated to a dusty bookshelf but the colour choices made by the Lego team mean they show up well without the need to retrofit lighting. Even better, once built they definitely hold together well and can stand up to quite some amount of play before bits start to work free.
Very happy with this little build that was just perfect for a late night relaxation session.

Running Repairs
" I sat on the fence for a long time with this modular but had heard good things from other AFOLS so I finally took the plunge to get it. Having now built it I am REALLY glad that I did, it looks much better than I anticipated and the building experience itself was a lot of fun.
My favourite piece is probably the window sign for the Vet Office (Dr. Jones - No snakes) which gave me a nice little giggle, even if I did crack the joke before I had fully read the window print. I am also happy to report that even if you put the window in the wrong way round it is easy to pop out and refit once the build is complete (yes, I'm that person).
A small number of mini figures with this modular but, to be entirely honest, that works for me as I am not a big mini figure fan (don't come for me). They do add life to the displayed modular though and it looks great on the shelf. Let's be honest there isn't that much else you can do with the modular range once they are built and that works for me as I enjoy the build and I get just as much pleasure from looking at the completed item and remembering the build.

Leviathan
" I bought this for The Boy as a Happy New Year gift - he has been whining about this being a retired set since we got in to building Lego over the first UK lockdown. Lo and behold Lego did me a solid and re-released it.
Once again my lack of being able to translate written measurements in my head to what they will be in physical form let me down. I was pleasantly surprised at how big this was finished and how detailed. Generally looks great on display, or it will when we find a permanent home for it.
A couple of things to look out for - the piece count may be high but 284 of those pieces are the little blue dots that make the water in the bottom of the bottle. Also, when you site the ship it looks like it will be toot all for the bottle. The Boy had a little breakdown as he was sure he had done something wrong. I had a quick look and advised him to keep going and trust the instructions as I could see off the book and the pieces that were going to make the top of the bottle over the ship had enough leeway to allow for the mast tops - helps to keep the ship in place.
Nicely detailed build with some fun techniques that he thoroughly enjoyed. Definitely makes a good talking point as his non-Lego friend group were all impressed with it in their group chat.

Docking Time
" I've been on a Space kick of late and this one has been catching my eye for a while. I am glad I took the plunge and purchased the kit as it was a lot of fun to build. This starts with the instruction book that has a plethora of information on the I.S.S. which was interesting to read through before I started the build. One downside is the blue background of the instruction manual, I found it distracted from the build experience and made some of the diagrams hard to see - some are in a white background fly out and much clearer.
One good thing about it is there are no stickers, everything is prepinted. With the number of tiles needed to create the solar panel fins this is a very, very good thing.
As a completed figure it is enormous and much bigger than I expected. Looks really good on display and it is really east to adjust the fins for the solar panels and also the white stabilisers.
Very happy with the finished look and the sturdiness of it. Despite having a few issues when constructing it because I am ham fisted it was nicely rigid when carrying it upstairs to my display area.
