For Frodo!
" So my brother's friend just got this set not too long ago, so I went over one time to check it out with the two of them, and it's not a bad set, though forty or fifty dollars is much more reasonable than sixty. However, With rare minifigures and most of all: a Great Eagle, the price is excused.
THE BLACK GATE: It's almost like a miniature Isengard. It is built mostly with black pieces (who would have thought?), and is made up of the gate itself and a lookout tower. The tower has room for anyone and has a mini catapult on it. Between the gate and the tower, the set can open/fold in about three different ways, depending on what you're doing with it. It's a great bad guy fortress and is the same price as Weathertop, so the real question is what figures you prefer...
MINIFIGURES:
-Mordor Orcs: There are two in the set and the only ones that aren't completely exclusive. They are much the same as the Hunter Orcs from Attack of the Wargs, except the leg printing is different. One comes equipped with a Uruk helmet and sword, and another has a spear. Great for boosting up your evil army.
-The Mouth of Sauron: So far, this is the closest we get to a LOTR Sauron figure. This guy is actually only seen in the extended version of The Return of the King, and is quickly killed by Aragorn. He is in black robes and cape, a steel helmet just a bit like the Witch-king's, and has a sword. He is, as the name implies, only the mouth of Sauron, so his head is literally just a strange, long-toothed mouth on a pale, wrinkled head with no other ordinary features. He also has a black horse to ride, the same as that of the Ringwraiths. A nasty villain for our fellowship.
-Aragorn: This version is exclusive here. He has the same long brown hair and regular or angry face as before, but is now dressed in the outfit of the king of Gondor. He has blue and silver armor/robe printing, and a red cape. He has his sword, as well, of course.
-Gandalf the White: We've seen Gandalf quite often, so its a relief to have this version of him. He now has white robes and cape, and the same smiling head as before, though his hair/beard piece now resembles that of Saruman, save for it is fully white. He has a white staff.
-Great Eagle: Only seen in one other set (that is 250 bucks, so you do the math). He is his own mold and is kind of like the pteradactyl in that he has studs on his back for any figure to ride on him. His feet can connect to a LEGO surface or pick something up because of that. Normally, I would say he should have been a bit bigger, but since the Wargs are still the size they are, no reason to change only one of them. (Speaking of which, why on earth was one of these not in Attack of the Wargs? I mean, that's how Thorin and Bifur and all the rest get away in the first place. It's kind of like Boga the lizard missing in the Wheel Bike...it's a lost cause without them.)
OVERALL: A good set, a little overpriced but with great, exclusive figures that outrun the money.

You can tell the Master I'm done for the day.
" Here's to another great Hobbit set! Before we get started, I'd like to give a small note to LEGO to apologize for the complaining in my last few reviews, because I was convinced that some of my reviews were not appearing after 48 hours. Actually, they were, it's just that reviews no longer appear in the order they are made? Anyway, sorry about that, let's get on to Laketown.
LAKE-TOWN: The set is mainly made up of two buildings in Laketown: the Master's quarters/prison and an armory. Both buildings are mounted on their respective wooden posts over water and are spotted with snow. The armory is small, with only a small hut featuring a weapons rack (a sword, a knife, and a mace are included), as well as a hidden door for Bard to hide someone in. It is covered by a little barrel with a fish in it. The tower has a prison that can have a blown-out wall and a underpass. Above those is the Master's cabin with a table and a bottle, and a lookout post with a catapult. Both are well-built buildings.
BARD'S LAKETOWN BOAT: The boat is the other big chunk in the set, being an extended mold to make a long barge. It would have been nice if it were just a tiny bit bigger, since all the features in it can't be doubled; eg. the included barrel for the dwarves/Bilbo to hide in, Bard's oar rowing, and the ability for anyone to really walk around. The boat also has a lamp, a catapult, and some rolled sails. A very good boat save for inner maneuverability.
MINIFIGURES:
-Bilbo Baggins: Bilbo has been featured in most of the sets so far, so we all know about him. He has his sandy hobbit hair, a determined expression and a scared expression, and is wearing a red adventure outfit. He is armed with Sting and the Ring.
-Thorin Oakenshield: This version of Thorin is exclusive, him being in blue robes instead of armor. He has black dwarf hair and beard, and has a regular face and an angry face. He is armed with a sword.
-Bard: An exclusive, well-done figure. He is wearing brown robes and printing, and has a regular face and angry face as well. He has black hair the same mold as Qui-Gon, and is armed with the large bow and arrow (the same as the elves). Awesome minifigure!
-Master of Laketown: The master is an exclusive minifigure, featuring all-new body printing, a rare purple/red cape, a colorful hat with a feather, and a weird face or evil laugh face. He comes with a gold key.
-Laketown Guard: The guard wears purple robes and a special silver fish-like helmet. He has a reddish beard on his face, which can be either angry or a little less angry. He is armed with a long spear that has also been seen in Indiana Jones and Ninjago.
OVERALL: A great set. I'm not sure how much of what I'm going to say will be included in another set in the future, but I would have been happy to make this up to an $80 set if it could have a slightly bigger boat, a building with the wind-lass (black arrow shooter), a building for Bard's house, and a few more minifigures, namely some Orcs (Bolg?), any of the dwarves that are left at Laketown (Bofur, Kili, Fili, Oin), and Legolas and/or Tauriel, since the real big battle in Laketown so far took place with those characters. But as for what we have, this was a great set, though as always, the price is a bit....well...pricey. But it's really no concern by now.

It is undoubtedly...a trap!
" What a great set! It's not often I can say that this set's price was just about right, but given the great, exclusive minifigures included with the Hill of Sorcery, I don't think the economy would have allowed for much better than $70 bucks.
DOL GULDUR: The castle of the slowly growing Sauron may not look like much, but tons of tricks and traps lie inside. These include: a rotating wall to reveal the Necromancer, some swinging swords behind a spider web, a catapult, a cage hanging over the tower, iron gates, and an opening statue. Because of all these and the minifigures, fantastic playability ensues. The set goes great with the Mirkwood trees and the Dol Guldur Ambush, as well as Weathertop and the Warg Attack if you already have those. Excellent job, LEGO.
MINIFIGURES:
-Gandalf: Gandalf has been included in several other sets, of course, but to my knowledge, not exactly like this. He has gray hair and a cape both, and is armed with his staff and sword, which is less often seen. If you don't have him, good set to get him in. If you do, he's still just as important.
-Radagast the Brown: I can honestly say I never expected LEGO to make him in a set, least of all in a set below $100, but here we are! Radagast has a smiling face and an angry face which slides under a beard/hat piece, decorated with appropriate colors and a little bit of bird 'stuff' on one side, which is very movie accurate. He is dressed in his brown wizard robes, and is armed with a staff topped with a blue stone (like the one he uses to save Sebastian the hedgehog in An Unexpected Journey). Awesome minifigure.
-Azog the Defiler: Given that the pale Orc appeared as an exclusive figure at Comic Con, I didn't expect a set with him either, but once again, LEGO surprised me with this set. Azog has an evil grin on his scarred torso that slides over the initial upper body piece. His skin is tannish (could've been white, but it's all good), and his left hand is replaced by an exclusive claw piece. He is armed with his large club and goes great with any Hobbit set, but especially this one and the Warg Attack. Awesome figure; put together with Radagast, he makes the whole set worth it. P.S. Just in case you weren't planning this, I would love to see Bolg in a Hobbit 3 set :)
-Gundabad Orcs: We've all seen these before. The two in this set have Uruk swords and a mace, and have no hair. Along with the two from the Ambush plus any other's you may have, you've got a great army of evil.
-The Necromancer: This ghostly figure is not what he seems. He is black with greenish printing on his face and torso to make him look like a ghoulish apparition, and I believe is based off the scene in An Unexpected Journey when Radagast has a close encounter with him. He goes great with the Ringwraiths from Weathertop, as well as any other Nazgul or Sauron related figure that may appear in future sets? Awesome, rare villain that is sure to keep Gandalf on his toes!
OVERALL: What a set! Next to the Lone Ranger train chase, I'd say it's the best set $70 or over that I've gotten in a long time. I would recommend this to any LEGO Hobbit fan.
Sorry, side note: LEGO, I have to ask again why a lot of my reviews have not been appearing after the designated two weeks. And I'm talking about reviews I made a month ago. These include the Malibu Mansion, Ghostbusters, the Rancor Pit, and the General Grievous Wheelbike. I'd sure appreciate seeing them or receiving an alert as to why they aren't there so I can rewrite them if necessary. Thanks!

The droid army is in full retreat.
" So before the new wave of Episode III sets, we had a wonderful Episode II remake series. This set is much like it's predecessor, and it is very fun and a great way to get some cool new minifigures.
CORPORATE ALLIANCE TANK DROID: I like to call it the CAT Droid. Using technic pieces and treads (also in the Jungle Cutter), LEGO has done a great job of making this move. It has orange eyes and laser cannons, flick missiles and a good height. Not much else to say, but still a great droid army vehicle.
MINIFIGURES:
-Jango Fett: Obviously the highlight in this set, he hasn't been seen since 2002, so we're all excited about this one. He has a very much improved helmet and body printing like the latest Boba Fett figures, he has his antenna and two pistols, and the same scarred head as his son's. AWESOME bounty hunter!
-Clone Trooper: Though it would make more since to have Mace Windu in the set, the brand new clone troopers are fantastic and this is one of the easiest ways to get them. He has a brand new helmet, much better as the old ones were those that required a black head underneath. He has movie-style body printing, which hasn't been seen in forever since the dawn of the Clone Wars sets. His rifle is the best, as it has a long technic piece on the end of the regular rifle mold to make it look its best. My friend and I made a couple of these a long time ago for his battle scene, so I'm glad to see LEGO got the same idea. Fantastic clone.
-Battle Droid: Standard, save for the new Geonosis color which also hasn't been seen in a while. He has a backpack (1x2 piece) so between that and his color he'll be rare, for these also haven't been seen for a while. He is armed with the standard blaster and is a great army builder.
OVERALL: Great, cheap purchase for such good figures. Totally worth getting. PS to LEGO, a lot of my reviews that I've made in the past few days have not been showing up after the designated 48 hours. These include Malibu Mansion, Ghostbusters, General Grievous' Wheel Bike, and the Rancor Pit. Any reason why? Thanks.

Who you gonna call?
" So after CUUSOO (now Lego Ideas) came out with the DeLorean and Minecraft, I never expected to see anything as good as those again. But here we are, receiving their latest installment: the Ghostbusters! Rock on LI!
THE ECTO-1 CAR: This is a great set and a fun build that should only take up to about an hour (mine took more like an hour and a half, since I was watching Ghostbusters while building this). It is primarily white with some red and uses a lot of what would seem to be random pieces in order to construct the goofy modifications that Bill Murray & Company made to the car. Inside, there is room for all four minifigures (as long as you're happy with one guy lying down), and there is a control pad and steering wheel. I'll say right now, thank goodness these LI sets are high quality, as there is no stickers at all. This is a well built car, worth maybe a little less than the price, but that's okay. It's worth it!
MINIFIGURES: The minifigures included are the Ghostbusters: Peter Venkman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spengler, and Winston Zeddemore. Each have the same tan torso and legs, printed as the Ghostbusters outfits and equipment, as well as their nametags on the left side (their initials). Each also have a specially built proton pack to go on their backs so that they can shoot nuclear blasts at the ghosts. Each have a smiling face and a scared face, and their own special hair piece. Other equipment includes a spectrometer and two walkie-talkies.
OVERALL: Another amazing set by LI, very satisfying to build and display. Play wise, it would have been best had they included a ghost of some sort; e.g. a simple ghost, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, or Slimer (though Rotta the Huttlet makes a good custom Slimer). However, this is easily excusable, as is the price, since this is a special, exclusive 80s set. Since LI is on this great spree of sets, I would absolutely LOVE to see an A-Team van with Hannibal, B.A., Face-Man, and Murdock. I'd also suggest the MirthMobile from Wayne's World or the USS Enterprise. Just some ideas! Thanks for this great set, LEGO!
P.S. Any reason that a few of my reviews (e.g. Malibu Mansion) haven't appeared after 48 hours? Just wondering...

Don't you know? I'm Electro.
" This set, though very, very small, brings to light something I've been wanting to say. I really wish that several of the Spider-Man sets made could have been traded in for Spider-Man sets from the two new movies. This one came closer than any others, as it included one of the main villains from Amazing Spiderman 2. That's all why I got it.
SPIDER-TRIKE: Unfortunately, Spider-Man is downed by all these vehicles being made for him. Now, the real fault goes to the cartoons, but LEGO could fix it if they had made stuff from the movie. This has one wheel in the front and two spread out far in the back. Spider-Man can sit on it to drive. Cut, dry, the end as it goes. I feel as if Spider-Man's dignity is lowered every time they give him a vehicle, as if to say his swinging through the city on webs is old school. There's plenty of cooler vehicles out there.
MINIFIGURES:
-Spider-Man: Old webhead has been made enough times for us all to recognize him. He's got blue legs, and red Spider printing on his torso and head. He has large eyes for the cartoony look, also a spider on the front and back, and web printing on the outfit.
-Electro: One of my favorite Spider-Man villains and a great addition to my group. He's got lots of lightning pieces attached at his legs and has an almost translucent look to him. Great villain, the highlight of the set.
OVERALL: This set is cheap and easy, and it's only good point is Electro and Spidey, if you don't have him already. I'd have loved some movie sets, but oh well.

Take 'em to church, JARVIS.
" So, as I said in my review on the Extremis Seaport Battle, the figures are the best part of the set, and if LEGO had just forgotten both the sets and made a Boat Docks Battle with Killian, War Machine, Iron Patriot, Heartbreaker, Mark 42, and Mandarin, I would have thought it worth up to $50. But anyway, combine the two, and they're fun, just not movie accurate.
MANDARIN'S FLAME CAR: So there is no point to this at all, since like I said, it ain't movie accurate. The car has room for the Mandarin to drive, and it has a rotating flame thrower machine up top with flick missiles. That's it. There is a lot more value in using it for extra pieces.
MINIFIGURES:
-Mandarin: A cheaper way to get this figure, who is actually a British actor anyway. Now, this Mandarin is different from the Malibu Mansion, because he has bare arms and no cape. Still the black beard and bad old terrorist face, though. Problem is, it's all fake, which is why we truly needed something like the non-physical set that I mentioned above instead of these two.
-Iron Man Mark 18 (Heartbreaker): The big reason to get this. This is Tony's most advanced looking suit made in LEGO to date. It has more coloring on the mask and different chest piece printing, and it's all a really cool suit. Tony's head is inside, and it also has the four blue bricks to make it fly.
OVERALL: I love the Heartbreaker suit, but there's not much more to this set. Don't feel too pressured to spend thirteen bucks just to boost up your Hall of Armor.

Eat laser, clankers!
" This here is a set far beyond what I would have expected from LEGO: a Phase II Clone Captain Rex!
BARC Speeder: The BARC blows far away any of the past clone speeder bikes in that it's immense length and accurate buildup is much better than before. It looks just right! It has room for it's one driver, has the laser guns at the front and is mainly gray and maroon, like the sidecar. The sidecar is attached by some blade looking technic pieces to the bike itself, and has room for one passenger/gunner. It has a fantastic brick build up and is given great form; I can't say I've ever seen one in a movie or Clone Wars but it's cool anyway. The turret doesn't really swivel all that much, and it is built using mainly the infamous Alien Conquest gun, but it still looks pretty cool and right up Rex's alley (even though driving is more his style, he is the "boss"). Awesome speeder bike!
COMMANDO DROID SPEEDER: Not much different from the Tactical Droid's speeder in Mace Windu's Starfighter. It's built with a lot of blue and gray pieces, and is pretty much weaponless, so though it is a nice speeder to have in your collection, it's not really something a commando droid would drive. Maybe Count Dooku, or Nute Gunray, if he were man enough :P. Overall a good speeder.
MINIFIGURES:
-Commando droids: There are two in this set. There has in fact been a whole wave of commando droids in a spree of Umbaran related sets, another coming in the AT-RT (commander style). These three new ones differ from the two in the ARC Trooper battle pack, as their heads are slightly more elongated which makes them more accurate. They have printed faces, entirely brown bodies. The same as a battle droid save for super battle droid legs and the heads. They are armed with blasters.
-Obi-Wan Kenobi: I only get involved with the Clone Wars because of the clones, so I'm not a big fan of the characters in LEGO any more than the show. While the Episode III is more my gig, I'll say right now that this Obie-Wan is much better than the old Clone Wars version. He has tan robes and orangish legs, making him more like a movie. His red hair is brushed to the side, and he has a determined look on his bearded face (the enlarged eyes are what get me on the Clone Wars figures). He has his lightsaber.
-Captain Rex: AWESOOOMMMME!!! This guy has almost everything. Almost is the key word, but I'll get to that in a minute. He has those new commando pistols, highly detailed clone armor printed with dust and tally marks (for all those droids and battles) going all throughout his legs, torso, and helmet. He's also got the blue markings of the 501st in the appropriate places, including the jaig eyes. He has a cloth kama and blue pauldron (thank goodness! I was going nuts every time I got a clone commander with those plastic ones that made them virtually impossible to pose) and his special clone face with whiskers. The catch? All the Clone Wars Phase II helmets lack that little hole on the side to add in the ARC gear. Why??? LEGO, you were so close! You did it with all those Phase I helmets...what's the difference? Tell me you aren't just getting lazy?! Anyway, minor setback to those with a good imagination, but every once in a while you have to remind yourself that this is Captain Rex, rangefinder or not.
OVERALL: Awesome set with a great clone minifigure. More of a twenty dollar than twenty-five, but you know how it goes. I totally recommmend this to all clone army fans!

Oh, no! The Rancor!
" I would like to start this out by saying what an honor it is to buy and how glad I am they finally came out with a Rancor! After all this time, I did not hesitate for one minute. Bummer, I was walking out of the store when I realized how much money I'd just spent. Sixty dollars? LEGO, you guys have got to stay with the rising debt and economy in our falling country, I get it. This is a VERY new, exclusive, rare, fun set with a never-before-seen, highly coveted Star Wars creature in it. I get it! But you've got to get past all that! If you want to keep more customers, then please lower your prices, by just five-ten bucks each set since about 2012! It's not that bad. There's not a single person I know who doesn't agree with me! Anyway, sorry about that message and I hope I didn't just discourage anyone reading this, because this is a great set to get.
THE PIT: The real reason why I'm disappointed in the price. I mean, all it is is a pit. It's got four columns going up to evenly connect with bricks on the new Jabba's Palace so you can recreate the whole scene. The biggest feature besides that is the working cage door, so you can unleash the Rancor and then crush him with the pull of a lever! Nothing much else to say about it, worth about twenty-five or thirty on it's own at the max.
RANCOR: Awesome! This thing is twice as big as the Hulk or the Wampa and much cooler! He's brown, and has his own mold that gets him looking just right. He's a chain and cuff on one hand, and both hands have grasping fingers to hold minifigures, and his giant mouth can nearly fit a whole figure inside! Coolest thing since the T-Rex in Dino! He is the only reason anyone would pay sixty bucks for this, but I firmly believe that Amazon could sell it for fifteen bucks by itself, which doesn't really add up with the pit to equal that much bread.
MINIFIGURES:
-Luke Skywalker: We've all seen Mark Hamill in LEGO many times before, and he's no less greater this time. He's got his Episode VI black robes, a green lightsaber (I don't think I ever got to mention that I LOVE how LEGO switched the green in the blades a few years ago), a face with smiling or bared teeth, and sandy hair. Great Jedi, but if you want him only, get the Skiff. It's cheaper.
-Gamorrean Guard: Exclusive to this set and the Palace so far. He has a great slide-on mold to have his armor and piglike head. He's armed with an ax and looks ready to go. Too bad he'll get eaten as soon as he falls through the trap door :P.
-Maliki: Did I spell that name right? Anyway, my brothers and I always laughed at the movie when the fat, hairy owner came in to cry over the body of his monster pet, so it's an okay figure to have, even if he's virtually useless. He's got a fat belly printed on him, and a brown hood covering a serious or teared up face. He's armed with a clawed stick thingamajig. Funny guy.
-Skeleton: Not sure why these were ever counted as minifigures save for the Ninjago stuff?? Just bones.
OVERALL: This is a great set and I absolutely LOVE the Rancor. Please don't decide not to get it just because of the whole price ordeal. I've been holding that in a long time and this was the perfect example. If you've got the extra cash, go for it! To some, it may even be worth more than half a hundred, who knows?

Cool wheeler...now if only we could catch it...
" This is an awesome set. Really, it's pretty cool. LEGO, I'm going to take you back to 2005 using the CUUSOO DeLorean Time Machine. You released a set much like this one. It had Obi-Wan, General Grievous, and a Wheel Bike. You know what else it had? BOGA THE LIZARD!!! I cannot describe how crucial it was for you to include this thing. How IS Obi-Wan supposed to catch up to Grievous, huh? Got me. I'm telling you right now, there are some high priced sets out there, but you could have gotten an extra $10-15 dollars out of me had you included Boga. I'm very disappointed. However, we can focus on the set itself for a moment...
THE WHEEL BIKE: This is a very impressive vehicle. It includes a spot for General Grievous to sit (just don't tip it over or he'll fall out), real rotating wheel, and fold out legs. Impressive build, fun build. A very fun escape speeder.
MINIFIGURES:
-Obi-Wan Kenobi: This new Episode III version of Obi-Wan is probably my favorite. He's got neatly cut red hair, a determined or an angry face (this bearded face is great...I may make a custom Chuck Norris figure with an extra one of those), and great printed legs and torso for tan robes. He comes with a blaster to defeat Grievous but unfortunately no lightsaber. A minor detail, since we've all got an extra one of those somewhere. Great Jedi!
-General Grievous: The best Star Wars villain to have an action scene with. Thank goodness he's here again, since my 2010 one broke at the neck clip; hopefully this one will be sturdier. He is the Revenge variant rather than Clone Wars, and comes with four lightsabers, two blue and two green. He's got that nasty cyborg look that really hits home for a great minifigure. Also, there is a Magna Guard electro staff made out of a stick and purple diamonds. Well thought out, actually. Awesome fig!
OVERALL: This set is a lot of fun. Really. It goes great with the Utapau Troopers battle pack, or can be a ball on it's own. Each set is a little overpriced, five bucks less would have been better. Could have been thirty-five, if only we'd had that poor, left out giant lizard. I recommend this set, but be prepared for a very large, gaping, black hole in your playtime when you realize that there's no reason for Obi-Wan to be having a close-combat fight with Grievous, anyway...there's no way he could even catch him.
